Killzone HD Coming to PSN October 23rd, Trophy List Revealed

Killzone HD on PS3

Announced last week, the Killzone Trilogy box set combines Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 with a high-definition PS3 remaster of the original Killzone. Today we take a closer look at Killzone HD, and the challenging new trophy set that comes with it.

Originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2004, Killzone tells the story of Jan Templar, an ISA Captain whose home planet comes under attack from a Helghast invasion army. Together with a hot-headed sergeant named Rico, a deadly Shadow Marshal known as Luger, and the half-human, half-Helghast spy Hakha, Templar must attempt to reactivate the Orbital Defense Platform and drive the invading forces from his planet Vekta.

This rip-roaring introduction to the Killzone universe has been remastered in HD for inclusion with the Killzone Trilogy bundle. Featuring a single-player campaign with four playable characters and an offline multiplayer mode against AI opponents, Killzone HD has received a thorough audiovisual overhaul: the game boasts 720p graphics at a steady 30fps, with MSAA filtering, sharper textures and higher quality sound effects. But don’t take our word for it – check out these crisp HD screenshots:

  • by the way,

Thank you Victor & your team for keeping the motion gaming, Vita & 3D crap out of this remake. I much prefer all your limited time being spent on making this singleplayer experience the best it can be for PS3, period, rather than wasting your time with gimmicks.

….. which, i hear btw, is the main reason why Killzone 3 sucked so much compared to Killzone 2 ;)

  • KZ2 & KZ3 where both great.

  • Will be be able to buy the bundle on PSN at some point?

  • Will my Killzone 2 save data work with this collection?

  • 4 playthroughs to plat? sigh…

  • @55

it’s not 4 full playthroughs, but close.
    yeah what is that about?
thats the only part of the list thats dumb

  • “The Trilogy version will come on a disc; the standalone version will only be available from the PlayStation Store.”

That is awesome news! I was on the fence about this, as I prefer to have my games all on disc. I already own KZ 2 & 3, but I will be buying the trilogy to have everything on disc! Thanks!

  • great job I love killzone 2 and 3
I have already paid off this collection. Will there be any avatar or dynamic themes included! Your number one Killzone fan ;-)

  • Ooh, yah fixed the controls of the first one? Nice, now I feel like getting it.

  • Will killzone hd be available on the mexican store?

  • Niiiice i’m interested in the killzone trilogy.. never played a killzone game before

  • Great! I will be buying it for sure!
And I will definately go for a platinum trophy!

  • I hate to post negativity, but to dismiss Remote Play after Sony used it as a marketing tool to help sell Vita is absolutely disgusting.

More and more I notice that if there will be a Vita exclusive, remote play for PS3 titles will not happen for that franchise. Is this to protective sales on the Vita title? Do you really believe we won’t purchase the Vita version just because of Remote Play on the PS3 versions?

I had a shred of hope when Sony finally made 4 AAA titles available for Remote Play and that’s great, but really expected Killzone to be Remote Play too.

Just more false hope and deceptive marketing by Sony, which is sad because I truly love their products. The way the business is run though is shameful.

  • If there are no plans to support remote play…

WHY was the remote play demo about a year ago for the Vita always featuring Killzone 3 for remote play?

Playing KZ3 with remote play was one of the main reasons I bought the Vita.

It was being demo’d/advertised as an upcoming feature.

So why did you just say there are no plans to remote play any of the killzone games?

Is it you or Sony that is at faul for the false advertising?

Once again, Killzone 3 remote play was one of the bigger/biggest marketing tools to sell Vitas.

  • Just want to add, since we don’t get much space per post.

I want the Killzone HD remake. I’m very happy it’s coming. When I first heard of it, I knew I’d be buying it day one.

But the fact that you just publicly admitted that there is no plans to remote play any game in the series, when the Killzone 3 remote play is the main one featured in order to sell Vitas/remote play (an entire year ago), feels like a giant slap in the face to fans.

As much as I really really want to play/own this game…

The fact that you’ve played such a horrible trick on the customers with the help of sony/Vita makes me want to never support your company again.

    Tough choices coming…

  • WIN!

  • Yay! I didn’t want to buy a triple pack for just this game, so glad that it’s been announced for PSN too :) Am I correct in assuming, that by pointing out “Offline multiplayer with A.I”, you’re confirming that there will be no multiplayer?

  • Wow that’s such a long wait. >_>

  • Will we have to redeem a code in order to get the maps; content that can more than easily be put on the disk? If so, then I’m not buying it.

  • Cool. I’m going for the collection since I played 2 but I was borrowing someone’s copy. I liked what I played of the first, so this is a pretty awesome deal.

  • Thank you Jesus!! We get KILLSONE IN HD!!

  • Correction: That’s KILLZONE. Sorry about the mis-speling. I am a real KILLZONE fan im just too excited.

  • 1. How much will this cost?
    2. Will Killzone 1 be available to download from PSN?

  • @73 Maybe you should read the damn article.

  • Can you use the PlayStation Move Motion and Navigation Controller for all three games?

  • My first game I beat by myself!!

  • This is one series I missed out on last generation. I fell in love with the Killzone universe in KZ2 and the third iteration did the series justice. I’m stoked to play this one in HD, to say the least.

  • So no online and no remote play …. wtf is wrong with you people? you don’t like my money or what?

  • ok why you guys never just make it for ps vita only omg you would of make money off this killzone HD remake

  • Yes! Now I can play the first game in HD!

  • And please and more Killzone avatars on the store!

  • Awesome news! Can’t wait! I wonder if Killzone 2 and 3 will also be available through PSN – would love to broaden my digital collection even further…

  • … 720p and all we get is a “steady” 30fps? I was hoping for “steady” 60fps or at least a “rock solid” 30fps here. And MSAA !? Are we talking about 8xMSAA or just some crappy 2xMSAA? What happened to MLAA? Oh, and there isn’t any PlayStation Move support, right? Also no stereoscopic 3D and no online multiplayer, right?

    Let’s summarize:
    What expected: 720p + 60fps + MLAA + 3D + Multiplayer + PlayStation Move
    Actual product: 720p + (steady) 30fps + MSAA (!?) + …nothing else…

Is this how much Sony actually care about one of their most brilliant first party title? Actually, who the heck handled the HD remastering process anyway? You expect to sell this for $15 !? No, not me, sir. I ain’t no cow. If you think you can I’m dumb enough to waste my money on this lazy quick-port, then please think again. I’ll do just fine with PS2 copy here.

I’m seriously disappointed. It’s not like you have to remaster three titles here…

  • Tch… I seriously should proofread before posting next time…

  • I have a question – will there be a split screen multiplayer against bots, just as in original Killzone?

  • I wish it was at least 720p @ 60fps. I love all the Remastered HD from Sony just because of 60fps.

  • Wasn’t a big fan of the first Killzone. The HD makeover looks fantastic though. A very impressive looking upgrade from the PS2 original. Killzone 2 was where this series really started to come into its own. And Killzone 3 was even better. The first one is worth playing, though, just to see the progression from 1 to 2.

  • Will there be any incentives to play the multiplayer offline with bots? Like in-game rewards, or online leaderboards?

  • So.. will the hd release of Killzone 2 have the original, unf****d, non auto-aiming, non snap-on controls from the first patch?

Or will it have the “community requested” disaster of a patching spree that ruined the game – directly on the disk, so you don’t need to download it?

  • You people complaining about no 1080p and “only” running at 30fps are really misinformed. Only a handful of games this gen render in 1080p; nearly every game that supports 1080p just upscales from 720p(often not even that), and on PS3 that often comes at the cost of some reduced effects or texture sharpness.

If your TV is setup correctly for gaming, 720p will always look better than a game upscaled to 1080p; your TV has hardware to do upscaling, and do it very well, because it’s absolutely essential for viewing different HD broadcast formats.

As for “only” running at 30fps, again, there are only a handful of titles than run at 60fps this gen. If you’re whining about it, then I bet you can’t tell the difference between a steady 30fps and 60fps, because if you could, you’d know that nearly every game you own runs at 30fps.

Lastly, just because it’s a “remake” does not make it any easier to get it running at higher resolution. Unless the game is reprogrammed from scratch, a lot of resources are lost in translation layers.

  • @65 Self-righteous much? Not to mention petty! I’m sure Sony wouldn’t have shown KZ3 being played in remote play on the Vita if they had the gift of precognition and knew of every business deal that was to come. It’s more than a little ridiculous to get all bent out of shape over it.

Also, Guerilla had **** all to do with marketing the Vita, why are you spewing at them?

  • @90 I thought they greatly improved the controls. The auto-aiming wasn’t nearly as strong as you’re making it out to be. Personally, I don’t care about auto-aiming either way(though I hate the insane snap controls in CoD), long as everyone has the same (dis)advantages, but the controls were much smoother and more precise after the patches. Honestly, I didn’t even notice any changes in the auto-aiming, I was just happy I could always turn quickly and precisely.

  • So I can finally store away my PS2 copy of killzone ?
I love that I can play fake online this and socom Were my first online experience on PS2

  • NO REMOTE PLAY FOR THE VITA. well that’s a bit of a kick in the priverts. with killzone merc’s on the horizon i was so hoping that my favorite all time period games (killzone) would at least let me play a barrage of gun shots and screams wile i take it up on my self of getting a kick in mouth every time i visit my local dentist.

so no killing in the dentist zone. that suks

  • THANK YOU!! Finally! Im one of the ones that kept asking for this so i guess our shouts were heard! Thanks for all your hard work i look forward to picking up killzone HD since i already have 2 and 3.

  • Awesome, I can’t wait for Killzone HD. One question though: will the game be letterboxed like K2 and 3 when playing on a 4:3 screen?
