PlayStation Store Update 8-21-2012

This week is jam-packed with games of all shapes and sizes, so you’re bound to find something you like. If you’re a Transformers fan you’ll be happy to see that the latest retail offering, Fall of Cybertron, is available the day it launches – in other words, right now. If you’re wavering on whether or not to get it, the fact that you can make your own Transformer might help you decide. Seriously.

Let’s just say for argument’s sake that you hate robots (you monster), but love team-based shooters. You’re in luck. Counter Strike: Global Offensive is the newest iteration of the classic franchise, so regardless if you’re a retired pro or a beginner, now’s a good time to get involved in the community. It’s the last title in the PSN PLAY promotion, which also means that this is the last week to purchase games and earn PlayStation Store credit back. Read more about the event by clicking here.

PlayStation Plus members are receiving exclusive access to the DUST 514 beta this week and can purchase downloadable content for the title at half price. • @ijustw1n: Free games were a rarity before E3? You sure you aren’t getting pre-E3 Plus mixed up with XBL? Lemme guess; You signed up for Plus after E3, because if you have been a Plus member any longer than that you’d know that your statement is not only wrong, but it’s just ridiculous. Also, so instead of letting SCEA know how hard they are failing with Plus, people should just silently cancel? Maybe that would make sense to the Sony sheep that are willing to accept any turd Sony plops in front of them, but if they want my money I at least expect the quality I originally subscribed for and I’m not getting that anymore. The complaints are their chance to get it right.

  • The Vita is struggling and they release two games for the Vita that are more expensive than the almost identical PS3 versions? Wow, simply wow.

  • to everyone who is saying,,great update, nice update,,wtf are yous talking about ,,all ps+ members know what im talking about is where are the games,,ok,,this month 2 games so far,,last month 2 games,,i have stood behind playstation plus since i became a member ,,but c’mon bring the games allready,, when are we gunna see the games!!!!!!!! i just had 2 say something,,so next week will b weak, then what ,so on 9/ 4 we gunna see some games that we dont own yet,,i hope so,,plus has been a drag last few months,,,i have allmost 200 games on my download list,,im a gamer so bring em on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @201: Games take time, and a lot are coming. It just takes time.

I agree about the pricing choice for the PS Vita versions of MGS2/3 HD though. Why on earth are they more expensive than the PS3 versions?

    That makes no damn sense.

  • Great update.

  • Can we get some clarification as to why MGS2 and Snake Eater are $5 more on Vita? They’re the exact same game on both platforms, so this seems a little like price gouging just for the sake of it (then again, it is Konami, so I’m not terribly surprised).

  • The beta was trash!!! I understand that its a unfinished product but, God it was soooo bad save your time and your space….. I would never in my life want to be apart of that… why not give us all ps plus members the playstation all star battle royal beta??? If sony would really push the better games they make, they would be a better company… DONT buy dust 514. Sony shame on you for not thinking correctly. You are going up against Halo 4, at least try to beat them…. I hate microsoft. At least they try to make money.. I ponder, who makes up these lame ideas of half game exclusives? Starhawk i bought it and it sucked. Resistance series sucked… Killzone at least hit the mark and you guys never promoted it. In a way I kinda wish I could reach out and really make this company better. It should be the best in the US however its not. Give me a job at promoting at least I would talk until my voice gave out about how much sony is the best. I guess having a ton of half, yes half exclusives is the new way to go?

  • @AdamKAME88
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Dust 514 will be free to play on day 1. Making Playstation All Stars freefor Plus would require servers ready to handle that heavy traffic. No job for you.

  • Another lame sale week for regular users… Dead Space 2 was just on sale on Steam for $9.99, in fact it was a bundle for 1 & 2 for only $14.99 i think? PSN just does not compete so i am not buying many downloadable titles here…. Pushing me to the PC… Renegade Ops for $9.99 is at least a step in the right direction, but thats still what the game SHOULD have cost from the get go. $7.50 would have sold me. Other than that no good actual sales (not saying content, specifically saying sale prices). How about Oddworld Strangers Wrath for $7.50 next week? That title cant be selling a ton and could use the promotion, and that would be an okay sale. Instead we will get something like Calling All Cars for 20% off and a garbage half priced mini….

  • Since Sleeping Dogs is released could we get True Crime Streets of L.A. and True Crimes New York City on PSN??

  • VERY disappointed in the description of Crazy Strike Bowling:

“Using the PlayStation Move motion controller,” could mean optional like LBP2. There’s no info for this game anywhere.

I just purchased it to learn that it is Move REQUIRED! That is clearly stated for Sorcery, but not for this title, and now I can’t even play it. I feel very ripped off as that money is gone for a product I can’t play due to vaugue item description.

Can I please get a reply on this? Thank you.

  • Simple question Morgan Haro and Kristine: When does the Counter Strike Global Offensive hitting to Playstaion Store? The Full-100%-Game? And is it only available for the Plus Members now? Because im not a plus member and i cant find it! :(

  • Loving CS: GO! I clocked in at least 8 hours so far today.. loving it! Great update guys, keep it up.

  • Simple question Morgan Haro and Kristine: When does the Counter Strike Global Offensive hitting to Playstaion Store? The Full-100%-Game? And is it only available for the Plus Members now? Because im not a plus member and i cant find it! :( please answer!

  • u have the whole game? how do i get it?

  • It says Malicious PS Plus sale price is leaving on 8/28, but in the store itself it seems to already be back to normal price. I was holding off on this game until the right time, but am pretty dissapointed that there’s some kind of mixup.

  • When are you going to put the Lego Batman 2 DC Super Heroes DLC? I ‘ve been waiting for Heroes Pack and Villians Pack a lot of weeks! In the game says that they are ready for purchase but they are not on the PS Store yet and if it is I can´t find it?

  • People wonder why the Vita is doing so badly? Total mismanagement is your answer.

Already porting Vita games to PS3.

Same games costing more on Vita than on PS3 (MGS2 & 3 HD)

PSP game prices are still astronomical. Seriously, Jeanne D’Arc costs $22 but at Gamestop it is $7-$10. No resale value = Lower the prices for your digital titles! You realize that if you go down we lose the games right? Stop thinking your customers are stupid.

Terrible, Terrible Vita schedule. Seriously, you need to work on talking to your 3rd party people. Ragnarok Odyssey pushed to October and Persona 4 to November? P4 releasing day and date with PSASB? Ragnarok Odyssey releasing in a very busy 14 day span? What about July? What about August? The system is new! get it together or this thing is going on eBay.

I am getting tired of it.

  • Don’t forget charging a kings randsom for memory cards. I got robbed of $40 for just 8GB of space. If you went with conventional SD cards that same 8GB costs ~$10. Nothing SONY added can even remotely justify a 300% markup.

Seriously SONY could you please do something? This is worse than PS3 launch and unfortunately you don’t have tons of past success to ride on like your did before thanks to 15 years of PS1 and 2 success.

Fix it or watch the device rot and consumer faith in your products dwindle.

This is from a long time PS1,2,3,PSP & Vita owner.

  • I sure am glad I subscribed to PS+ because I love being RIPPED OFF.

  • I wouldn’t say PS+ is a ripoff. You paid $50 and you got 15 (Most likely 18 by now) full retail PS3 titles for free, not including any Minis, PS1 titles, PSN titles or the multitude of discounts.

You can’t expect free stuff every single week, lol. You already recieved well over the $50 investment you made.

  • @220

I would guess A LOT of people, me included, subscribed after the E3 showing. It was pretty amazing. And I would bet all of us had varying levels of expectation on the service but NONE of us thought it was going to be what the past months have been.

My expectation, which has proven to have been realistic, was that we were going to be getting some good discounts and 1 great PS3 Retail game a month, aside any other freebies they wanted to throw in there (you know… exactly what Europe is getting).

So a lot of us feel short-handed because we have been clearly been dealt the short end of the stick. It’s not really about value content. Only that this is not the service we were expecting. I know I for one will probably not renew, I would bet that at least 30% of the new comers (the ones drawn in by E3) won’t either. Might loose some of the older plus crowd as well, they seem quite displeased. It is pretty undeniable that quality and quantity of content has taken a gigantic nosedive since June.

  • Also… You guys and girls of the blog should consider making a clearer statement (as opposed to none, as far as I’ve seen) that Peace Walker will come to the PSN next week, and with it, so will a bundle of all three games.

I’m pretty sure anyone that buys these games this week will be pretty aggravated come next Tuesday.

  • Nothing this week particularly interests me much.
I’ll definitely try out the Sleeping Dogs demo to see if it’s a game that I’ll like. If I do, I’ll get it.

I’ll be getting those Uncharted 3 DLC though.

  • @22…So let me get this straight. If sony gives you at least 1 retail game per month for your 1 year $50 Plus subscription, THAT IS NOT A GOOD VALUE ??? Imsorry but some of you gamers are being just greedy. It has been detailed many times on this blog. Asia, Europe & USA will NEVER give away the same content per month. NEVER. Were in different regions and different rules apply. That said, take that same $50 go to gamestop and purchase those freebies that you have recieved since you signed up for plus and I gurantee you, you would have to add ALOT more $$$ to that. As with anything, if your not happy with plus, so be it, but many, MANY others see the great value in plus and it will only get better with time..As always, Keep On Gaming.

  • @222. Typo

  • @224

I love the use of the word “greed” used to defend corporations. Just seems so adequate.

If Sony gave me one full PS3 retail game a month I would be as happy as whatever creature is very happy with their investments.

As I sad in my post, which you don’t seem to have read correctly (and it is still sort of surprising, because you are a plus member, apparently), this is not what has happened. Compared to old Plus (I was not a member, but that doesn’t make me ignorant of their promotions and updates. Anyone can go back on the blog and CHECK), this new service is lacking. A lot of people agree.

Also worth saying that I don’t want the same content as Europe, I want the same QUALITY of content. It has been stated here by Morgan that the discrepancy in content is intentional and part of a [business] strategy.

  • also:

This is NOT about value of subscription. In my opinion, I would actually prefer is they gave better discounts (as they used to) instead of a bunch of questionable free games (Outland was the first decent game we got since June) that apparently half the community already owns.

I really don’t think I’m alone in this.

In this many will disagree and I’m fine with that, but at any rate: The main problem with the present format of Plus is that it WILL cannibalize on itself. It serves too very different kind of people. The ones that want to spend, and the ones that want to receive. “People A” see discounts and spend. A few months later (proved by The Walking Dead “fiasco”) the game goes free and the “People B” get it. They have covered their costumer base. But now, “People A” rage because they feel cheated (and they were). Soon, paying costumer will stop paying (I know I did) and just move onto “People B”. Example?

“Dyad” and “Papo Y Yo” going free is almost inevitable, I severely doubt it won’t happen down the road. Why bother buying? This mentality will eventually catch up. As you said… You know what people like? Money. Do you know what gets them really mad? Wasting money.

  • Metal Gear! Awesome can’t wait for Peace Walker HD (and the full downloadable HD Collection) to hit PSN. Also Counter-Strike, I love Valve games. i’m glad this one is downloadable. Also I didn’t know they had bundles for Dead Space and Dead Space 2? You guys should add a bundle for Mass Effect 2.

  • @227, as you have well stated in your ” Lavish post”,you seem to not grasp what plus is. (1) “Dyad” and “Papo Y Yo” going free is almost inevitable !!??…If so, then why do you have plus ? if you know most games will become free down the line ? (2) This is NOT about value of subscription,… Really ? So then why are you all in uproar as to what free games you recieve per month ?everyone has a certain VALUE to their subscription, yours seem VERY VERY HIGH. .(3) It serves too very different kind of people. The ones that want to spend, and the ones that want to receive ??!!..Are you serious ? EVERYONE that PAYS for a service, WANTS SOMETHING IN RETURN. thats just how it works…I suggest to all gamers that are not on PS Plus, please read the disclaimer and understand what you are getting into before you pluck down your hard earned money.

  • Buncha bull SHlT how they just HAVE to have all this add on junk in order to play a full game now a days. sure is nice how the devs just keep trying to make more and more money off people that already own their games yet NOT THE FULL GAME due to damn add ons. SUCH A F’KING CROCK OF SHlT !!!!

  • I mean going free for Plus, as one of the IGC additions. I seriously didn’t think I need to be that specific about it, but so be it. I have Plus for the IGC (and the cloud storage), I stated so earlier (I guess, can’t be bothered to check, I just restated it anyway).

You seem to ignore half of what I write. I already said, Plus could be a better service, EU is proof of that. I (I would assume “we”, as in “the people that generally voice our opinions about our discontent with the service”) don’t want a copy-paste delivery from what Europe gets. We want the same QUALITY of content. I don’t have high expectations; my expectations have been clearly met. I apparently just opted for the wrong continent.

  • Yes, everyone wants something, that is given. But Plus did work marvelously before as a tool to allow people to spend less. It is logical. You pay a fee to receive discounts. Sounds silly until you realize that the discounts obviously cover the fee if you are an avid buyer. That is what I meant by “people that spend”. Plus used to facilitate spending money on the store for people that wanted to do so. Discounts have been scarce and low quality.

And actually… Since you delved on fine print: The first iteration of Plus was signed under contract. The amount of content they were bond to deliver was stipulated in that contract. Sony changed the contract without opt-out or warning.

(please delete the hold off comment, I just replaced the crude word I had used)

  • Morgan, Kristen, is there any way that PS2 Classics are going to be added to the instant game collection?

  • woot I forgot all about the update. good thing I don’t work tomorrow. :)
15 gigs for Michael Jackson wow I knew he was large but not that large :)

  • ^ that crappy MJ Experience game takes up that much space? Thats depressing…

  • Gungrave: Overdose, eh? Wow, such nostalgia. I would like to ask if Gauntlet: Dark Legacy could be in a future update, seeing as how Xbox Live Arcade has it already (unless it is because of rights to the game)…

  • GAME IDEA: Spelunky, it was and still is a classic pc game, and i think that classic indie games are awsome. The xbox arcade has it, can The Playstation Store try to get it, i bet it would be a big seller. I know i would get it
    Please Playstation needs Spelunky :)

Cant wait to play MGS2-3 :)

  • Hey Morgan quick question. I’ve been seeing articles online that keep saying Firmware 1.8 is coming out next Tuesday. for the Vita They kept saying they’ll have PS One Classic support.. Do you know if this is true or not?

  • @68

Some of us actually liked the themes it looks like your not one of them.

I just hope for Demons souls or Need for speed the run next month for Plus members. I am sure it will be something worth while since all the people who got 3 month memberships seem on the fence to renew.

  • Love seeing more minis, but maybe more PSP price cuts or bundles?

  • Counter Strike MUAHUAMUAHUAMUAHUAMUAHUA!

  • Any chance of getting Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep on PS Store for Vita?? I would love that :D

  • Any luck for Valkyrie profile coming to the store?

  • metal gear 2 & 3 + gungrave! i’ve been waiting so long for the digital mgs hd collection. now i just need peace walker.

  • I know why Sonic Adventure is only $5. It’s because Sonic Adventure 2 is coming to PSN this fall! If you don’t believe me, check wikipedia or Sonicretro.org for more information. Sony, consider that game bought!

  • any news on GTA III yet or is it possible for you guys to release GTA III and Vice City at the same time? im new to the blog so hi how are ya? lol

  • Have you guys given up on ps1 classics? Haven’t seen a new PSOne game for weeks and still so many PSOne games I would like to buy :/…

  • Wtf is wrong with you people! ? Shutting down studio Liverpool? I LOVED the Wipeout games, all of em. At least put an AG pilot character in all stars battle royal for goodness sakes. R.I.P WipEout…
