Closed Beta Access and 50% off Mercenary Pack Add-On

Remember that Beta I talked about earlier? I know, it was a bit in the making but we’re happy to welcome our friends from the Dust 514 team into Plus with exclusive access for the closed beta. Dust 514 is the free to play first person shooter that may change the face of how we battle online in games. Help test the first live direct connection to the extremely popular EVE Online MMO as players on the main server in DUST 514 and EVE Online can chat in real time and send in-game mail between games. It’s a first in gaming, it’s free to play when it releases later this fall, and exclusive access is coming to Plus members on 8/21. You’ll have until September 4th to jump in the Beta. KidCommando: You’ve pretty much expressed your own opinion, rather than something actually relevant. Very astute of you! I’m glad that you and others are happy with the “new” Plus, but the fact is they didn’t have the right to change it without notifying us, and allowing us to opt out.

I’ve gotten one game for free since Plus changed over, since I owned literally all the games they offer (including these two), but I’m not complaining about that, even though I have a right to just as you have the right to spout your opinion in such an ignorantly brash way. I’m glad others get to experience Outland, it was an exceptional platformer, but I’m NOT happy with what I’m paying for, and there’s a perfectly good reason for that, not because “wahh I own these games” or “boohoo I want full PSN titles.”

I don’t know, maybe it’s just not worth the effort conveying the idea that we’re all actually getting blatantly scammed. I do know that the community as a whole isn’t happy with the new Plus, and what I’ve been saying is a part of it. Just look at the rating of this article for proof, or Morgan Haro hiding beneath his desk instead of doing his job.

You can’t complain! It’s FREE!!! Except that, you know.. you’re PAYING for the service. With so much “free” content, it’s amazing my wallet keeps going dry. I guess it’s off to watch my “free” movies on Netflix, and my “free” shows on Hulu+, maybe try out my “free” games I got from GameFly or play some “free” WoW. Because apparently in 2012, the content you get from paid subscriptions is “free.”

Anyway, they disappointed me last week with 2/5 of one game (which works as a ploy to buy the rest of the game when it comes out) and being late with the other two. Now they remove a PSN title and a FULL PS3 title in replace of a cheap PSN title and a PSN Play promotional title (of all the games you chose, of course you chose one that most already have). Now we’ll have to wait a month and a half to two months for the next update (because apparently to Sony, “monthly” means anywhere from the first of the month to the end of the following month). What a great service this is. I was saddened last week, and about to cancel my subscription, but I gave it another chance. After you suddenly changed, without notice, Sideway NY and Choplifter HD as this weeks removed games to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Just Cause 2, I thought, “Oh, they’re listening to their fans and will be removing a full PS3 title for another.” But I shouldn’t be surprised. Congrats, Sony, your ploy worked and you got a subscriber at E3. And now you’ve lost him.

Another disappointing month, I thought PS+ was supposed to become a better service. Where are the retail games Morgan? Why rotate a retail game with a PSN game?

Err… I’m saddened at this apparent trend of lackluster PS+ updates.

Mind you, I am really glad that Outland has come around, it’s one of those games that looked like I would enjoy playing but not enough that I would buy it. You know, the reason I have PS+ around for. Alas, it doesn’t make up the fact that a full PS3 retail game has been replaced by a PSN game.
Here is hoping for a better September… (I remember saying the same thing about August last month, I wonder if I will repeat this song next month regarding October).

As much as I love PS+ for the ‘non-free game’ features and the discounts, I have to admit… the free game portion is becoming a huge disappointment. Really great games once every three to four months doesn’t cut it. I understand when you release super popular games on PS+, so that those who missed them can get them free, but sometimes, releasing a game that sold like sh!t is a bad idea, especially when there was a demo, because it probably didn’t sell due to the fact the game was sh!tty. I tried and hated Bloodrayne: Betrayal. And I already have 100% on Outland. So this month, not a single one of the free updates is worth downloading for me. In my nearly two years with +, that has never happened before. So on a personal level, this is definitely a new low. At least in my case, the awesome features and discounts save the program, but I think I’m going to be dropping my “free game expectations” to all-new lows, just to keep from getting disappointed every month.

Well i already own outland, just baught the merc pack friday, but dont own bloodrayne. Witch im excited for. Im also excited about outland even though I already own it. Bevause I might actually get to play some co op. I dont mind that most of the games that get released I already own. Because I basicly try to buy everything cool when it comes out. Even though I know it will be on plus for free eventually. Im too impatient to wait. So basicly sence

You’re complaining how UK Plus is SOOOO much better than out Plus, yet go to the EU Blog, and thos EU subscribers complain that US is getting the better games all the time.

And low rated PSN games? You are certainly not an informed gamer. Outland got positive reviews all over the internet when it came out. One of the best downloadable games of last year.

And do you and other people complaining about us getting the Walking Dead episodes understand that the game is absolutely amazing, and both episode 1 and 2 has gotten nothing but 9/10 and 10/10 scores from almost every gaming media outlet? There are rumbling of actual Game of the Year accolades for TellTale’s The Walking Dead, which to this point has been unheard of for an exclusively downloadable title. Which in plain english means it’s the best downloadable game of all time.

I’ll listen to complaints from informed gamers, not you…..or anyone complaining about The Walking Dead being given away to Plus members.

Another nice update excellent. But PLEASE oh PLEASE increase the 150meg of storage space. I am always running out. 500meg would be great, 1gig storage would be most excellent. Come on hook me up. I just renewed my PS Plus subscription (auto renew). I was a loyal Qore subscriber. give me more online storage for save game PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

As usual, I can’t help but to sound-off about what I see going on here. With the offerings as they are, it really is tailored to new comers to the PS3, not for the long-time owners and early adopters. Which is a shame, but as a business, I understand it. Their job is to entice new customers. But there should be some order for retention of existing customers. If you look at the offerings on paper, and total up the savings/value, it is a fantastic deal. Unbeatable even! BUT….if you are an existing Sony customer, longtime customer even, you more than likely have played/own most to all of these offerings. So how do you take care of both parties, the new comer and the loyal? Well if you would have hired me I would have told you/made it happen, but now, I shall keep it for myself….continued—-

Also a note to people looking at the PS+ subscriptions….if you ‘re like me, you just don’t have time or the patience to play through all the B- to C+ games being offered up through PS+. Either there’s not enough money to go around, or not enough time to play it all. So either play no AAA games, and enjoy all the PS+ offerings for your gaming time, or skip all the PS+ offerings, and save that money for your AAA games (which will get the bulk of your gaming time anyway.)

i don’t know if PSN managers are gonna hear these but i have a suggestion.

i noticed that full downloadable PS3 games don’t come with a manual and that is a problem, i suggest that you add some sort of electronic manual or at least offer downloadable manuals in PDF format on your playstation website, because the downloaded games are of the same price of the retail games (60$) so i don’t want to be left out with less features than the retail version.

We sure are getting ripped off. Paying $50 to play 45 games(12 in June * 3 per 11 months). What a scam! When they’re not new, you complain that a lot of people have already bought them. When they’re new, you complai a lot of people have just recently bought them. Why not look at the content for what it is instead of constantly comparing it to EU’s? Dont you guys realize US used to be considerably better? than the other regons before June?

Hey Morgan, here’s a request from a Lord of the Rings fanboy for the future. Would you be kind enough to try and get in touch with someone from Monolith and see if they’re willing to offer a Plus discount on Guardians of Middle Earth when it launches on PSN? I’m 100% getting that game Day 1, but obviously a discount would just make it THAT much sweeter.

I just saw Guardians of Middle Earth got it’s ESRB rating, so I figure it won’t be TOO long before it gets released. Just figured I’d put in that request a month or 2 ahead of time, to hopefully give you time to try and make it happen.

Also a question. Have you heard anything about when WWE WrestleFest’s console port will be releasing?

I am honestly confused. Why are so many people saying plus got worse? We used to get 1 PSN, 1 PS1, 2 minis. Now each month we get at least 3 PSN games, it may be one less game but I find it hard to believe someone would want 2 minis instead of 1 PSN game. On top of that we will get some full PS3 games from time to time. Unless you really love PS1 games, what changed that makes so many people angry?

We will get at least 36 PSN games for $50 a year. Calling that a scam or a rip off? Really?

  This was the notion behind the change that we did, and for the most part, the folks asking for ‘old plus’ are fairly in the minority based on my comment analyses. Although I’m working on ways to address their concerns too for the other goodies that Plus did more of previously. We shifted gears and are doing less PS one Classics, PS minis, and decided to focus more on PSN and PS3 games. Games you could get Trophies in.
  
  The lion’s share of comments for improvement seem to be mostly focused on more PS3 Full Games, and greater equity when we rotate new content. To that end, I’m confident some of the folks who are dissapointed with the updates will be pleasantly surprised with how Plus will be moving forward through the rest of the year and beyond.

Sad to see so many people upset, seems like a stellar PS3 week/month for PS3 gamers.

The only thing lacking is PS Vita support.

Heard great things about outland and bloodrayne, can’t wait to check it out.

And especially excited to check out Papo & Yo.

CS:GO and DUST 514 (I like the beta) are hard choices for me, the PS+ discounts are tempting but I am really burned out with online games, I’m falling back to single player experiences primarily lately.

Where is the VITA love for PS+? And the PS1 support?

Like the walking dead eps though nice job on that one, and the people complaining its not a full game umm (yeah it’s not a full game obviously, theres the word episodes in there if you have the brain power to read) (also don’t start getting defensive if you think i implied your dumb, so calm down it’s just a game :) and If you don’t like playing these games then do some something else rather than playing? something productive? go play sport, go running, swim, it’s probably the heat getting to you haha.

Hi,
I’m relatively new to PS3 and PSN, but I’ve been following this blog and I think I’ll be grabbing PS+ around the end of this month, the savings and deals are kind of ridiculous. How does SCE even make money from this, kind of feels like a rip off, but I’m the one doing the ripping. O.o

Anyhow, can’t wait to join the plus community! :D I do have a complaint though, and its about the moderation for the comments section, I see a lot of hostility and ‘trolling’, shouldn’t something be done about this? It makes it really hard to want to comment and participate in the community on here, and it seems a lot of it stems from ignorance. I’m relatively new as I said, and I seem to know more about plus than some of the plus members… O.o
So, yeah, that’s it, just some more moderation please?

  That’s a great piece of feedback, and something I’m looking into more. I’m all for critiques, but we gamers need to exercise restraint and not attack one another. For some this Plus update is amazing. for others, perhaps it’s not what they were looking for. But that does not give the dissapointed person, or the excited person any right to tell the other that they’re ‘wrong’ or ‘dumb’ or anything.

Funny thing here, just the other day I deleted the Outland demo and now the game is free, lol. Had to delete that and quite a few others to make room for W40K Space Marine and LBP 2…. I guess now I’ll need to download it again :)
Although I’m slightly disappointed we’ve not yet gotten Darksiders or Deus Ex HR like europe PS+ got, the instant game collection is still a solid deal. Hopefully next month we get one of those, or maybe a cool big game they haven’t gotten, such as Prototype or Starhawk, or some PS2 classics. Keep up the good work!

@103 Except PS+ is great. You seriously think Renegade Ops, Pac-man CE DX, Outland, TWD episodes suck? Whiners shouldn’t overshadow satisfied customers. The only complaint I have is that there have few themes and avatars since June. More full games would be nice, but as long as the games offered are good, I won’t complain.
