It’s been too long since I’ve posted to PlayStation.Blog…but soon you’ll see why! We recently joined Spike’s Geoff Keighley on the latest episode of GTTV tonight to show off some cool new Carmelita gameplay in addition to a very special announcement: Sly Cooper is coming to PS Vita this fall!
First off, a look at new gameplay. As every Sly fan knows, Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox have a long and torrid history — a history that’s destined to continue in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. The game picks up where Sly 3 left off, and Sly is feigning amnesia so he can be with the love of his life, Carmelita. But when he rejoins the Cooper Gang on their time-traveling escapade to restore his family’s legacy, you can be sure Carmelita will quickly become embroiled in their wild adventure.
Carmelita is radiant on the PS3, and the powerful graphics hardware allowed us to make her much more detailed and expressive than in the past titles on PS2. She is, of course, a fully playable character in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and so we also spent a lot of time evolving her gameplay. We have gone with a more precise over-the-shoulder aiming technique that allows players to lock on the targets quickly and easily. You can see how this can be put to good use in the multi-layered boss battle.
Now for more big news! Ever since we revealed the game, fans have been asking me about PS Vita, arguing that Sly would be a great game to take on the go. I completely agree…and I can now confirm that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be shipping this fall on BOTH the PS3 and the PS Vita, on the same day.
The portable version will contain all the same awesome Sly Cooper action you will find on the PS3 along with cool Vita-specific features that incorporate the front and rear touchscreens and motion controls. The game will also feature cross-save capability, so you’ll be able to save the game from either machine and then pick up right where you left off — whether you’re at home or on the go.
So there you go! We are thrilled to finally show Carmelita in action — she’s a big fan favorite and I know everyone will love how she looks and plays in the latest installment of the series — and to be announcing the PS Vita version of the game. It’s been a crazy ride over the last few months, but when we see the results we know it was worth it. :D So stay tuned for more PS Vita details including date and price coming very soon.
Hey again, Glen! It would be VERY appreciated if you could read this comment. I love a lot of stuff I’ve seen so far… However, just like every other game, it’s not perfect. Therefore, I will be posting the stuff about the game that I DON’T like – not to be annoying, but to tell you how you can improve upon the game. I’m doing this because I simply LOVE Sly Cooper, and I want the best to happen for this game!
So, here’s my list – hopefully you’ll understand what I mean and agree upon it enough to change it. :)
– I love the “job complete” animation for Sly. Good job with that one. However… Why do all the Coopers have the exact same animation? Let me quote you from a previous interview: “They’re not clones of Sly.” If they’re not clones, then they shouldn’t have the same animation! Giving them different ones will add to their personalities. This might not seem important, but it could be very essential if you did it right!
(to be continued)
– Sly’s mask in the cutscenes is a straight line on the top. It makes him look very weird and not as cool as in the previous games. The cutscenes in general don’t look too good, to be honest. I don’t expect you to change this in this game, as the release is not too far away, but this could be an improvement for Sly 5, don’t you think? ;)
Thanks for reading all this! Please reply so I can see you read this. Even an empty comment would be fine. :D Can’t wait for your game. I’ve been following you’re every move and update since the announcement last year. Hope to see you deliver even more goods at E3.
Cheers!
– A long-time fan.
Thank You Glen Egan and Sanzaru Games! Thank you for remastering the Sly Collection (which I’m now replaying lol), thank you for making Sly 4, and for making the treasure contest for dedicated fans! I hope you guys love mine =) I hope you guys can come out with an official release date soon but PLEASE convince SONY to do a Collector Edition!! I’d preorder that in a heart beat! And if you get to read my message could tell us when you all will annouce the winners for the contest? Thanks =)
Bleh, furry anthro crap.
Awesome! Now they just need to get all the Collections on Vita! That would be awesome!
@Massimodo, I downloaded the Rayman Origins demo on 3DS and it was a disgrace. Of course, that’s not really the 3DS’s fault. That’s all on Ubisoft. Absolutely dreadful port, whereas the Vita version was glorious (but unfortunately without multiplayer).
Well, my understanding, vanwinkle, is that the same team is responsible for both the vita and 3ds ports, so draw your own conclusions.
@106: Doesn’t really matter, 3DS isn’t really as capable as the PS Vita. It was always going to be blurry, unless they redrew the sprites specifically in that resolution. Not sure what the Wii games looks like, but it probably looks blurry too given it’s an SD console.
The game even feels slow on the 3DS. And the 3D effect is minimal at best… shame.
Anyhoo~
As for anyone talking about Cross Play. Well, whatever term Sony uses for those games/DLC you buy once and get on both, it’s a thing. Obviously, so my point stands. Just throw in whatever Sony calls it. Sony needs to make the terms better so they’re less confusing, because the PS Vita and PS3’s connectivity offers a lot of different options. Not all of which work together, and all of them being easily confused with each other.
GameTrailers reported on this, and they referred to ‘cross play’ instead of the cross platform saves. When the media is passing along misinformation, then that’s only going to cause more confusion. Which is never a good thing. Didn’t help with the 3DS and consumers thinking it was a DS with 3D added on, and it’s not helping the PS Vita any either.
Thanks for the answers Glen! Saw some more gameplay on Gametrailers today, and it looks SO GOOD! You’ve done Sly fans proud, not only with what the gameplay looked like but also the awesome quips. “Just want to know where all the cannonballs are landing” <3
Props to everyone at Sanzaru.
@107; I meant to say 'feels slower on the 3DS'. :/
This plus the soundshapes news makes me much more likely to buy a vita, though the battery life still remains a big sticking point for me.
On the other hand I will buy a vita the day I see gameplay of a Killzone title for vita. E3? 0.0?
I hope we see a playable demo in PS Store after E3
If you guys was to port the SLY COLLECTION over to vita it would def influence my decision to purchase it. Oh and SONY NEEDS TO LOWER THE PRICE OF THE MEMORY CARDS AND ADD PSONE CLASSIC SUPPORT.
Does anybody else notice in the trailer the animation mess up/ glitch it’s at the very end of the trailer, slys hand is in front of the cane an the cane is floating behind it? It’s in the ps3/vita trailer.
ok got a few questions for ya glen:
1) when will you announce the competition winners
2)can you give us a hint as to what you will show at e3 (bentley, or murray gameplay?)
3) why is the flash light guard for Medieval England a cyborg wolf? if anything it should be a bear (there were lots of those in Medieval England
4) How many levels will there be in SC:TiT? i guess 10! (and theres also the prelude level)
5) Can you tell us anything else about sir Galleth’s special ability? (to break stuff while wall climbing)
well i hope you reply but seen as this comment is on the 3rd page i highly doubt it.
well thats all for now
thanks!
I like what I’m seeing! I just have a couple of questions.
1. Will sly alone have gadgets like in sly 2 and 3?
2. Could the sly collection come on the vita?
3. Around how many areas will there be?
4. What made you guys want to create the next sly game?
You guys have fufilled my dreams. Ever since childhood, I have waited for this. Thank you!
Hopefully the animators will fix the mess ups in all the cut scenes( Carmelita’s magically appearing necklace and slys floating cane
Hey obviously as you can tell by avatar I’m a huge Sly fan:) My question is who is voicing Carmelita in this game? Are we getting someone new like we did with each past installment or are we getting one of the original voice actresses from the trilogy?
RELEASE THE DEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please respond! Will you EVER unleash the demo on PlayStation Network?
We’ll have more details on that in the coming months =)
