PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
It’s a banner week for the PlayStation Store with the debut of great new titles, an out of this world PlayStation Plus update, the return of some treasured classics and much more.

PlayStation Store Update

Make your first stop this week with Awesomenauts. PlayStation Plus subscribers know from last week’s May preview that this title is free this month starting today! This colorfully action packed 2D online multiplayer battler with split-screen gameplay drops you in frantic online environments. Unlock loads of new abilities and characters for your arsenal, get in on the co-op action and storm the online arenas in Awesomenauts! Read up more on the game in PlayStation.Blog’s post with tons of info and screens from the game.

PlayStation Store Update

Then power up your PS Vita and download Mortal Kombat. Featuring the same over the top combat and fidelity from the console release, this version brings all-new PS Vita exclusive content (kontent?) like 150 new Challenge Tower missions that incorporate the DLC characters (like Freddy Krueger!), while also integrating the front touchscreen and accelerometer in ways that enhance the complete Mortal Kombat experience. Read more from the blog’s coverage on the PS Vita edition of Mortal Kombat.

This week also offers a healthy dose of the classics. In the PS2 Classics category, two great games are available to download in their original glory: Max Payne and Rayman 2 Revolution. Rockstar’s Max Payne follows a gritty noir tale infused with action packed gameplay. Check it out as a great way to get prepared for the imminent release of PS3 game Max Payne 3 on 5/15. Rayman 2 Revolution delivers an adventure taking gamers to a dream-like world in which they must prevent invasion from robot pirates. It’s fun for the whole family!

Old-school RPG fans won’t want to miss Legend of Dragoon arriving to the PS one Classics section as well. Featuring a classic JRPG story, riveting combat and a unique art style; relive this adventure or experience it for the first time starting today.

PlayStation Plus subscribers, this month’s content kicks off with a bang with the already mentioned free Awesomenauts, but also Trine 2 and two banner PS one classics with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania Chronicles. You can also now access the hotly anticipated PixelJunk 4am beta. Download the online viewer beta before anyone else and get in on this never before seen (or heard) experience. Don’t forget, PixelJunk 4am releases PSN-wide on 5/15.

There’s much more arriving this week, including PSN Game Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, new PSN Minis, and all new PS3 Full Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2! Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below and come back next week to see what’s new in the PlayStation Store, or join the discussion on the PlayStation Community forums in the Official PlayStation Store Update thread.

  • Oh wow! Going to the store to pick up a gift card right now. Legend of Dragoon is as good as mine!

  • Really wanna know if the Street Fighter X Tekken gem packs are gonna show up today or not. Did they get overlooked, or are we gonna have to wait a week more? Would love to know either way. Thanks.

  • omega_alpha-619

    @drakenbutch

I know more than you, and I know i’m not some whiny little kid that writes all in caps in every sony blog post crying about MW3 because his disc doesn’t work no more and that’s the only game he ever plays. lmao :D

  • Megadrixfire_24

    40 $ for mk vita?
i payd 50 for the digital ps3 and now 40 for the same version but for the handheld?? no thanks

  • im not crying about mw3 im only asking about it and i dont have game anymore some dud stole it and couple other of my ps3 game and im not a damn kid im 24 year old soon to be 25

  • With Ronimo facing bankruptcy, does that mean I might be purchasing a game that will have no support or future? I’m not gonna buy it if its dead already.

  • Vinland_Krauser

Hey, here’s some suggestions of games to be added to the classics section!
These are games that are already available on JP or EU PSN:

    PSone:
    Brave Fencer Musashi
    Tomba!
    Thunder Force V Perfect System
    Einhänder

    PS2:
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2
    Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution

Also, there are some games that weren’t released yet that would be great additions to our library:

    Suikoden 2 (PSone)
    Dragon Valor (PSone)
    Legend of Legaia (PSone)

    Legaia 2: Duel Saga (PS2)
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (PS2)
    Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil (PS2)
    Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (PS2)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 (PS2)
    Grandia 2 (PS2)

  • Question bout the GT academy download, even though we have GT5, we have to dl this? Is it a separate thing?

  • @102 you sure act like a kid it’s not sony’s responsibility to bend over backwards and put MW3 on the store just because you had your copy stolen and besides that is not up to them it is up to activision.

  • Nice update, but there’s no sign of a Starhawk demo. Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seems like a great update!

Unfortunately I can’t see anything because PS Store returns with a 80023102 error.

  • @102 i dont understand why people keep harassing you. all you are doing is asking a simple question, and want an answer from someone at Sony. i guess some people get a joy at hating people online. Anyway seeing as how other CoD games are on the PSN i would assume Black ops will be on the PSN. i think because its still “new” its not on there. id say when that Black ops 2 comes out or near that time we should see black ops on the PSN.

  • Pricing Legend of Dragoon at $5.99 is both reasonable and generous. Massive thank you, guys!

  • Cool, 2 decent PS2 games;) Keep them coming(it’s seems painfully slow tho :-/ SONY should of started the PS2 Classics on PSN on that dark day(well for me it was)when they took out PS2 playback from the new PS3’s a few years back) :-(

  • StackedPancakes

Until when will Trine 2 be discounted? My Plus membership is about to expire and I actually prefer paying for this one.

  • Good all-round update; agree with those asking for PS1 support (again) for Vita. I’ve no interest in MK, but would pick up some PS1 or even PS2 games given the chance.

  • WOW!!!!!! Waaaaaayyy more than I expected…. and I was just looking forward to the DiRT: SHOWDOWN demo.

    SONY comes through again. Thanks!!!

****PROUD PS+ MEMBER**** (Especially this week)

  • Any chance we’ll ever see Legend of Legaia on PSN ? I feel there is not enough for this game and it generally gets overlooked.

  • *not enough Love (Sorry)

  • DiRT Showdown demo, hell yeah.

  • Vinland_Krauser

    @ LordAbsu

I am surprised to see a 4-disc game priced that low. Considering Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9 had multiple discs, it was expected that it would cost 9,99 too.
Kudos to Mr. Yoshida and everyone involved in bringing this classic to us.
Now, there is another Legend that Sony also published in the past. Legaia!

    • Also big props to unsung heroes David Alonzo and George Weising who make magic happen by getting these classics working on the PS3! They’re big believers in preserving the Sony legacy in a digital way.

  • This site has a picture clearly showing Rock of Ages for release May 1st as posted by this very blog: http://www.gameplox.com/2012/04/24/playstation-plus-continues-to-kick-ass-in-may/

What happened? I was looking forward to playing it.

  • Excellent content for PS+ suscribers! Im really happy! Trine 2 at last!

Now that I acquired a PS Vita I really really want PSOne and Mini compatibility as playing them on the Vita would be fantastic!

    Thanks!

  • Oh my gawd! I can’t believe they put Legend of Dragoon on sale for just $5,99. There’s no excuse for letting this game pass. Everyone should get it ;D

  • Dragon ball z for ps2 classics

  • Awesome update this week.

  • Flesch_Eater000

hello, wasnt the ghost recon beta supposed to come out for non ps plus today if not when is it coming?

  • Are there any plans to add :

    crash bash (ps1)

    resident evil outbreak (ps2)

  • @ Vinland_Krauser & Venom1976

I’m with you two; Legend of Legaia on the Store would be awesome. I know it got overlooked because FFVII came out the same year but it’s easily one of the greatest JRPG’s ever made. It was awkward to go from the speed and frenetic pace of combat in Legaia to the more intricate (and slow I’ll admit) combat of FFVIII. Anyway I’ve gone on too long. In short: Legend of Legaia in the Store please :)

  • @10, Betas are perks for PS+ members. It’s exclusive, simple enough.

@72, I don’t agree that PS+ is sparse, but those are very good suggestions.

@ all concerned about the MKV price: Unless it’s a Sony title, the price is set by the game’s dev/pub.

@omega, haha. Leave him alone already.:D

  • PrimeroIncognito

It seems that Hooligantuan has gotten his diaper dirty yet again. Sheesh.

  • I wonder if there is the possibility of someday PSN Plus to give subscribers the full PSP games not Minis, but games like GOW Ghost of Sparta and other.

  • YES!!!!! Have been waiting forever for the release of The Legends Of Dragoon. Loved the game when it first came out and my son and I have been dying to play it again. Gonna get that sucka asap.

  • Morgan Haro do you know if the Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City avatars will ever be released in the U.S. store? They have been in the EU store since last year.

  • Nice update…. grabbed up Trine 2 and Castlevania: SOTN even though I got the original PS1 copy… Can never have to many copies of SOTN… haha

Thanks and keep the outstanding updates coming.. SONY2012

  • I dont blame Sony if a Vita game doesn’t have a discount, I just wish they wouldn’t keep it a secret until the PSN updates.

  • Nice updates and smoking-hot-promo-chick for Vita’s MK…

  • This is one of the best updates we’ve had in awhile, fantastic update!

  • hey, will there be a mortal kombat vita demo?

  • Nice update sony, Love Dragoooooon, next up san andreas please…

  • thank you Morgan for reply i think i am save up for network card to buy buy battlefield 3 try out online

  • These diapers hold a lot and they’re getting pretty full, bro.

  • BRING THE LEGEND OF DRAGOON TO EUROPEAN PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Legend of Dragoon! Spoiler:

I am so going to cry again when Lavitz dies :,( But am super excited to play this again :D

  • @Vinland_Krauser, Totally agree with you on Legaia! Love that one too.

  • 2 Questions
    1) The European Playstation Store has the Singstar Avatars, Can We Get Them For The North American Store

    and

    2) When is there going to be a discount on the batman DLC

  • Finally The Legend of Dragoon is on the PlayStation Store!!!!!!! Purchased!

  • Awesomenauts is great! It needs some more characters.

  • First, thanks for all the Awesome content for Plus this month !

However, I really miss watching the Qore episodes, even though I’ve only been a Plus member for the last year. This gave me an idea : Have you considered re-releasing Qore episodes free for Plus members ? Because the last 10 episodes or so on the Store show as Free, while the first 35 episodes still cost $2.99. (It might depend on when I joined Plus, not sure). Anyway, could you make some of the old episodes of Qore available for free for Plus members, like say episodes 1 and 2 in May, 3 and 4 in June, etc.
People who have been Plus members all along might not get much value out of this, but newer subscribers like myself might enjoy viewing some of the older episodes for free.
Keep up the great work !

  • bought The Legend of Dragoon today.

    sooo freaking good!!!!!!
