The Drop: Week of January 16th 2012 New Releases

Shadow of the Colossus and ICO are easily two of the most unique and ground breaking games which debuted on the PS2. Now, both titles are available for digital purchase on PSN in high-definition and stereoscopic 3D this week.

PSN continues to rack up more notable classics, with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, both arriving on the digital store. The Drop this week also delivers handful of demos, rounding-up another impressive PSN offering. Make sure to give episode 007 of the PlayStation.Blogcast a listen for awesome interviews from the CES show-floor.

PlayStation Network

Shadow of the Colossus — Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s team behind the critically acclaimed ICO. Players take the role of a young man seeking the truth of an ancient tale of power hidden in a mystical land. Shadow of the Colossus is a majestic journey through ancient lands to seek out and destroy gigantic mythical beasts. With a trusty horse at your side, players explore the spacious lands and unearth each towering Colossus creature. The uneasy task of defeating a Colossus relies on intelligent puzzle solving and action oriented gameplay. Armed with strong wits, a mystical sword and a sturdy bow, players use cunning and strategy to topple each behemoth. This re-release of the classic adventure game Shadow of the Colossus has been remastered for HD resolution and 3D displays, and also offers full PlayStation Network Trophy support.

ICO — In Sony Computer Entertainment’s exclusive adventure ICO, a young boy with horns is born in every generation to be traditionally sacrificed in order to cleanse the local community of evil spirits. This generation’s boy (and title character), however, tries to change his fate completely by fleeing from his would-be executioners and joining up with a captured princess to escape a gigantic castle. During his quest for survival ICO will have to make his way through vast environments overrun by challenging puzzles (including brainteasers and mazes) as he battles against an army of evil apparitions while leading his princess through the secluded fortress. This re-release of the classic adventure game ICO has been remastered for HD resolution and 3D displays, and also offers full PlayStation Network Trophy support.

Amy — From the original creator of Flashback, Amy is an innovative survival horror title. The cooperative gameplay featured in Amy is a deep and unique system that requires players to strategize in order to protect Amy and keep both characters alive. Unlike other games with a secondary character, Amy is neither a super warrior, nor a docile character that follows along. Players must use Amy’s size and special abilities to their advantage by keeping her close in order to ward off the virus, and having her complete tasks that Lana can’t. For both to survive, Lana must stop at nothing to keep Amy safe.

Zack Zero (PSN Exclusive) — Help Zack Zero save his beloved Marlene using the power of fire, ice and rock. Embark on an action-packed platform adventure that combines crisp 3D graphics with classic 2D platform action. Master 10 unique skills as you defeat enemies with a variety of creative attacks to reach Zack’s maximum power. Rise to the top of the online leader boards via PlayStation Network.

Cars 2: The Video Game — Cars 2: The Video Game brings players inside the international training center CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage), where they choose from more than 20 different characters and train to become world class spies. As part of their international training, they will participate in simulated hazardous missions using high-tech gadgets to evade and slow down adversaries.

Crysis 2 — Whether played in 3D or standard 2D, Crysis 2 drops players into a devastated New York in the midst of an attack by a frightening alien species. The alien enemies are armed with deadly weaponry and exceptional sensory abilities that test players’ skill and push them to the limit. These terrifying invaders stalk the streets of New York, leaving the streets in chaos and the skyline in flaming ruin.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas — The stakes are high when the world’s most elite counter-terrorism unit enters Las Vegas, where over 36.7 million men, women and children visit each year. “Sin City,” the home of the famous Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. What happens when one of the world’s most famous cities is held hostage by terrorists?

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent — Veteran agent Sam Fisher is back. But he’s never faced an enemy like this before. To stop a devastating terrorist attack, he must infiltrate a vicious terrorist group and destroy it from within. For the first time ever, experience the relentless tension and gut-wrenching dilemmas of life as a double agent. As you infiltrate a terrorist organization in its American headquarters, you must carefully weigh the consequences of your actions. Kill too many criminals and you’ll blow your cover. Hesitate too long and millions will die. Do whatever it takes to complete your mission, but get out alive.

  • week of the 9th eh?lol

If the price is reasonable I’ll buy Crysis 2

  • TM demo coming soon, Rey? I will see you in Atlanta!

  • Super lazy drop week,it should be named ”the drop weak”. Why wont you guys add more ps2 classics and other series avatars? like cod, dbz,ff,etc.

  • I really wanted to buy Amy until i started to see in a lot of place people saying how Amy suck i don’t usually trust reviewer but when i see the same things in more then 10 different websites i really don’t feel like buying that game anymore.

Other then that only Kingdoms of Amalur interest me.

  • Yes def. don’t get Amy. It didn’t get bad reviews, it got horrible reviews. Easily one of the worst games released on Playstation 3. The parts that I got to play of it a while back was complete trash. I thought they would’ve gotten some of that stuff fixed, but by reviews, I guess they didn’t. There is no way I could sleep with myself if I tried to help hype this piece of trash up. This is a game that I wouldn’t even sell in my store, because I wouldn’t feel right with someone taking it home. With all the awesome choices out there, this is a def. pass.

  • very nice

  • AMY has been released on European PSN last week and got horrible rating.

Think twice if you planning to buy…

  • AMY will be given away on PS+ in a months time, just see.
Then I can put it next to Hydrophobia Prophecy under the category ‘Games I Got For Free But Still Feel Ripped Off’.
Metacritic score at a balmy 22% lol

  • ummmmm, any word on g.c. imposters?

  • Sweet! Rainbow Six Vegas. Will this game have trophies? Rainbow six series owns call of duty. Can’t wait for Rainbow six Patriots.

  • amy is almost unplayable.

it will be money in toilet ..
hydro prophecy will get more gaming hours than amy and this isnt saying much.
i started to feel bad for the developers until i realized that they are just responsible for the content, not the hype..

if that hype and fire could go toward something worth while, say twisted metal..
less than a month away and a child of sony. but why do eclusives get more of a “red headed step child” treatment?

and if twisted metal stinks well so be it, but twisted metal should never stink. should be handled w great care, just like killzone, gran t, resistance an every other staple of ps3 or any playstation title which has been a part of sony gaming.. HANDLED WITH CARE..
not this garb, i mean seriously, how could any tester or developer let this title release in such a state without twaeks, overhauls etc? a delay would be in order if it would help matters. but just knowing someone played this and gave it the green light is troubling.

    see everybody @ vita boston/cambridge..

  • When Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be released on the PSN?

And what about the PS2 classics? Any chance of PSN getting Radiata Stories and Shadow Hearts or even Dark Cloud?

Also Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent will have trophy support?

    Thanks!

  • @ smooth 423.

yes its one of my favs also,
vegas 2 lobbies are still packed(last time i checked anyways)

trophy support lacked with vegas 2 which was the sequal so either they incorp’d trophy support or it will have no trophies..
    guessing the latter

  • and for amy pirces, well because of the facebook “poll”
    it will be 10 bucks.
and for those saying that they want to get this just to see how badly it is, well ….

  • Amalur looks good, hope its a good RPG as skyrim is grossly overrated as all bethesda games are.

  • @58, ies dark cloud would be great. Ps3 IMO has been a majoe dissappointment. Ps3 had a slew of RPG’s, PS3 is way too shooter action heavy… Not a single good RPg exclusive RPG this gen from Sony and RPG’s are now more popular then ever.

  • I was on the fence about Castlevania:HOD, but I ended up getting it and its pretty good. Multi player is fun. I already own te disk versions of S.O.T.C/ICO, so i encourage everyone that does not have them to pick them up. those 2 games are sure fire classics. I havent played Crisis 2 yet, so anyone that has played it, please give me some feedback. Thanks. Keep on Gamin.

  • Amy = wont get, reviews I have read say it is HORRIBLE
    ICO = Maybe
Shadow of Colossus = $15 or less, definitely will get
Zack Zero = Will wait for a demo or see some reviews b4 buying, looks promising though
Cars 2, Crysis 2 and RB6 Vegas = Not really interested
Kingdoms of Am and Castlevania Demos = Definitely will DL

Any news of the 12 of ’12 sale that is suppose to be starting tomorrow or do we have to wait til the actual PS Update to find out?

  • Oh forgot

    Splinter Cell = Not interested

Also, would love to see Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven some day on the PS2 classics section.

  • @GM914

Im glad someone mentioned the fact that Hydrophobia was a horrible game but thats just our opinion…i hope others enjoyed it. For me the best game i got for free on ps+ is Plants vs Zombies.

I want to thank all the people who are talking garbage about amy….bad or not i still want it… so it will be free soon for + users…..If people could just wait a little longer for games they want they wouldnt have to pay 60 bucks a pop.

  • I,m F#ckin buying “Shadow of the Colossus”

  • @mastorofpuppetz

Valkyria Chronicles and Demon’s Souls are both 9/10 great exclusive RPGs for PS3. True that’s not many, but don’t they there are none. I agree Sony should invest on a full Japanese RPG studio, but it’s not like they have done much for the genre in the past either. They’ve had a couple of Sony-owned series, that’s it for all PlayStation consoles.

  • what’s with all the moderation I get when I try to post?

  • The only bad thing about Amy, is the game play which is terrible….

  • Hope Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas has trophies #Classic

  • Good Week! … Give me the Crysis 2 and Shadow of the Colossus …whatever … the Tom Clancy’s games will have available Trophies?

  • Was interested in Amy before hearing from my brother that it was a rip-off of Silent Hill 2 and that the characters stuck to walls. Already have SOTC/ICO but if I didn’t I would get it on PSN.
