Introducing: MotorStorm RC for PSN and PS Vita

MotorStorm RC logo

I’m delighted to be able to announce – and show a trailer for – MotorStorm RC, Evolution Studios’ upcoming radio controlled off-road racing game for PS Vita and PlayStation Network. It was also announced literally moments ago on stage – so it’s absolutely hot off the press!

You can watch first video of MotorStorm RC in action here.

I’ve been game director to a small, elite team at Evolution Studios for most of the year, creating a simulation of high-speed radio-controlled car racing for PSN download. We’re extremely pleased with how the game is coming together; it’s a perfect combination of classic racing with really modern connectivity features and it’s already bigger than your average download game, with visually stunning renditions of all four MotorStorm worlds (and eight of their vehicle classes). Every aspect of the game comes loaded with endless competition that you can share with friends and rivals worldwide – whether that’s on PS3 or PS Vita, or both – and we’re still packing it full of challenges, race types and features too!

Everyone who has played MotorStorm RC so far says it really gets you hooked, with an addictive, hypnotic core experience – just like the best arcade games. Also like the best arcade games, stages take just moments to load, giving it that ‘just one more go’ quality, especially when you can play at home on PS3 and then continue your progress on the go with Vita.

And it’s still early days! We’ve got a lot more lined up and we’ll share all of it with you as the game comes together, but for now please check out our trailer and some of the killer features in MotorStorm RC!

Pay Once, Get Both

It’s the same experience on both PS3 and PS Vita, and picking up the game on PS3 will give you full access to the game on PS Vita (and vice versa) – so if you own both you can carry your progress between the two, and always pick up where you left off.

Players in the US can look forward to the release of Motorstorm RC on the PS3 and PS Vita next spring. We definitely will have more details to share throughout the coming months, so continue to check back here in the PlayStation.Blog!

  • This is the kind of game you can have your friends over, play for hours and just have fun, and i see, pay once get both! that a deal i can´t say no to!! Cheers for this great game! see you on the track next spring!

  • I have read all the comments but this reminds me of Codemaster’s Micro Machines, I always found it difficult to drive from that viewpoint, I would prefer 1st or 3rd person perspective.

  • No normal racing view like the other Motorstorm games?

  • Yet another Motorstorm to add to my Motorstorm Collection!!!! Vita and PS3!!! Long Live Play!

  • Well, add another game to the list of must haves. I must say, this looks really cool so far. And loving the pay once own both idea. Let’s hope others follow that same path.

  • Can you have a third person camera or do you control the cars from an angled top down view? I always want to enjoy those racing games with the top down view but I just can’t, I hate the way the cars control.

Anyway I’m a big Motorstorm fan and this does look cool but I’m not usually a big fan of spin-offs. Hope that whole earthquake fiasco didn’t hurt you guys too bad and you can still develop Motorstorm 4 sometime.

  • What a great announcement! This is not what I would have imagined or expected from the MotorStorm franchise, but that’s what makes it interesting. Some of the tracks look great already. I’d love to give this game a whirl.

Also, “Pay Once, Get Both” is a fantastic deal, and something I hope to see from other PS3/Vita cross-platform releases in the future.

  • Pay Once get Both is an awesome idea. But if it’s a PSN title, will the pricing stay at around $14.99 area.
Either way, hope this title comes in at a comfortable asking price and I will be sold. Great job Sony.

  • What if you just have a Vita and no ps3.. Please tell me you wont pay more than 40 for the vita game.. No way would i pay the ps3 retail ( 60.00 ? )

  • 60 fps or no sale

  • Can’t wait for the game to come out !

Kind of reminds me of Hotwheels…ha ha.

  • I knew Motorstorm was going to come to the PS Vita!!! I just knew it!!!

  • Jamie Brayshaw – On post #6, you replied that the PS3 and PSVita versions are, “practically, the same game”. Does this mean, there are differences or, am I reading too much into this. Does, “practically” just refer to coding type issues not, game play issues?

As someone who already has their pre-order in for the PSVita, this will definitely be a must-have game. Looking forward to it.

  • Sweet deal! Love the pay once model! The PS Vita just keeps getting better and better. Way to go Sony! Keep it up!

  • As much as i love Motorstorm, i HATE RC’s, idk what it is but i have extreme hate for them, i find them so stupid and boring…ugh.

  • RC Smash Cars was an amazingly fun game. I hope this one can be just as good and better.

I really enjoy the MotorStorm games, Pacific Rift being my favorite also one of my favorite racing games ever.

My fav being Diddy Kong Racing and Beetle Adventure Racing, both for N64 then Pacific Rift :)
Actually Burnout 2 comes after Diddy Kong Racing.

So Pacific Rift is my 4th fav racing game of all time and I’ve played a lot of racers :)

  • Kudos for making it available for both PS3 and Vita for one price. This should be the standard for all Vita games.

Hope this game has handling like Pacific Rift. This was the best game in the series. The controls in Apocalypse seemed kind of light and floaty and all the debris and peripheral stuff on the screen made racing unenjoyable. Would also prefer the mixed various artist soundtrack of the first two. And please, no stupid cheesy cut scenes like in Apocalypse. Evolution really screwed up with the last iteration, it was a real disappointment.

  • Will this game be running at 60fps or 30fps?
In any case, if this game doesn’t at least support rear (3rd-person) view, then I won’t even bother with it. Make that the first MotorStorm title that does not get my support.

  • OMG! I NEED THIS NOW! :O

    ::calms down::

Seriously. I need this now. :(

  • “Pay Once, Get Both” awesomeness at its best, now that’s what I’m talking about, well done guys, hopefully this will sell a lot

  • Nice…. I too like the pay once, get both. Zipper take notes.

  • Stereoscopic 3D? Apocalypse and even 3D Pacific Rift on PSN did, don’t tell me they went backwards on RC.

  • Since the first Motorstorm, I expect you guys to have awesome licensed music! Any comments on the music it will have?

The race tracks are always awesome and easy to take in with the atmosphere each MS game has.

  • You almost had me, until I watched the trailer.

I love Motorstorm, it is the reason I bought a PS3, not kidding.

My fav so far is MSPR, due to 4 players split and the fact that even if you in last place you can still win many, many times.

I’ll be in 10th place and without even seeing anyone else due to different paths suddenly i am in first place!!
Love that. And found MSA didnt have that feature.

This is how i play Motorstorm since day one:

-Precise Sixaxis control, why play this gen games with last gen controls???

-First person view, the intensity elevates when in this view, but I change views while jumping for the big air effect.

Those two things seem like they may be in jeopardy in this new itteration.

Come on guys, please give us the “option” to play this game in first person view.
And if you do that i would love ya forever if you added full sixaxis steering!!!

    Pretty please???

  • not a bad concept, though personally i would have liked to see a mass combined festival, in fact it was the motorstorm series that made me get a ps3 in the first place(other than the uncharted games of course). Either way still gonna look forward to it

  • Tiiiiiiiigggggghhhhhhht

  • Looks like fun!

  • Deadmau5’s PS Vita has HDMI and USB Audio & Video Out!

Looking at the picture of the PS Vita posted by Deadmau5 here:
    http://www.thegx.net/userfiles/324504_10150433122171806_9980651805_8817402_7868861_o.jpg

You can clearly see his PS Vita unit having 3 ports the full USB, the wide propriety USB and what looks like an HDMI port in the middle.

Since the NGP announcement last January I know and many smart gamers know, that the PS Vita capable of outputting audio & video via USB or HDMI by the videos and images we have seen.

But why the heck Sony won’t give us a retail PS Vita unit with audio & video out right out of the box ?

I know by next year wired and wireless mirroring from mobile devices are the next big thing but at least they could give us a hint that the retail version can output audio & video just like this unit Deadmau5 has … even if its a propriety cable we had to buy on top of it.

You know millions of gamers are at their late 30’s with vision problems & like to game on the large screen with the PS VITA.

Now why would Sony deny us loyal fan base of this feature?
Are they gonna screw us with a PS Vita 2000 later on again?
