The Drop: Week of November 7th 2011 New Releases

Two of the biggest award-winning franchises return to the PS3 this week with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Quantic Dream’s cinematic thriller Heavy Rain receives a Director’s Cut loaded with DLC, the complete soundtrack, and bonus making-of features (my favorite!). Fans of Metal Gear Solid can look forward to playing MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater and MGS: Peace Walker with the Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection on Blu-ray.

Io the digital storefront, digital versions of EA’s Fight Night Champion and Dead Space 2 arrive on PSN ready to download this Tuesday. Also on PSN, classics return this week with Chrono Cross for PSone and two new PS2 classics. The PS3 brings yet another fantastic week of blockbusters on this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Heavy Rain: Director’s Cut (PlayStation Move Support) Heavy Rain is a cinematic and evolving thriller from Quantic Dream, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Fahrenheit (released as Indigo Prophecy in the US). Dealing with a range of adult themes, the game revolves around a sophisticated plot and strong narrative threads that explore a complex moral proposition. You assume the role of multiple characters, with very different backgrounds, motivations and skills, in a world shaped by Bending Storylines – a dynamic narrative design where your actions and decisions will shape your story. The Director’s Cut includes the original game, Heavy Rain Chronicles: Episode 1 – The Taxidermist DLC, a series of eight “making of” bonus videos, the game’s soundtrack, three dynamic themes and more.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 — War comes home in the explosive third chapter of the blockbuster first-person action series set in near-future combat scenarios.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim — The Empire of Tamriel is on the edge. The High King of Skyrim has been murdered. Alliances form as claims to the throne are made. In the midst of this conflict, a far more dangerous, ancient evil is awakened. Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel. The future of Skyrim, even the Empire itself, hangs in the balance as they wait for the prophesized Dragonborn to come; a hero born with the power of The Voice, and the only one who can stand amongst the dragons.

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection Accept the mission and play three great chapters in the Metal Gear franchise with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Included are Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. All three games are rendered in high-definition for the first time!

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (Also on PSP) — LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 builds upon the magical gameplay, lessons and potion-making skills learned in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 to equip gamers with the tools necessary to challenge a host of new foes and some familiar ones. The game is action-packed from start to finish, including loads of new lessons, spells, and bonus content for hours of family friendly gaming.

Happy Feet Two: The Videogame — Happy Feet Two is a 3D musical adventure game for the entire family inspired by the whimsical Antarctic world of the animated film. In the game, new dangers are threatening the penguin nation, and it’s going to take everyone working — and dancing — together to save them from extinction. Players use dance moves to recruit penguins with unique abilities that help advance the adventure, stun opponents and enemies, as well as manipulate the environment around them to solve co-operative puzzles.

PlayStation Network

Fight Night Champion — Step into the ring for this 2011 entry in the knockout king boxing franchise. Fight Night Champion sets out to define a new standard in sports videogames by delivering the most dynamic simulation fighting experience to date, pushing visual boundaries and redefining the single player journey for the category.

Dead Space 2 — In Dead Space 2, Isaac brings the terror to space. Players will take on bigger, scarier and more epic battles that will keep them on the edge of their seats. Delivering a sensory overload of sound, visuals and action sequences, Dead Space 2 will bring the psychological thrills of deep space to a terrifying new level.

Monopoly Streets — Monopoly Streets has everything you love about the board game, presented as a street level tour of Mr. Monopoly’s fully animated world. Players can experience Monopoly, one of the world’s favorite family game brands, as a fully dynamic, living, 3D world that continuously evolves with the videogame action.

PSone Classics

CHRONO CROSS The sequel to CHRONO TRIGGER, is one of the most ambitious role-playing games ever made. There are over 40 playable characters, each with their back-story, special moves, abilities, and weapons. The story spans two discs and follows the story of Serge, a young man who is able to cross dimensions. Suddenly he is pulled between worlds, trying to figure out his own past at the same time. The graphics are bright and beautiful, utilizing the PlayStation’s capabilities to the fullest. The polygonal character models are huge and detailed, and the pre-rendered backgrounds are immaculately detailed. The music is composed and arranged by Yasunori Mitsuda, and features very realistic-sounding synthesizers.

PS2 Classics

Full Spectrum Warrior — Full Spectrum Warrior is based on a real-time squad-based strategy game commissioned by the U.S. Army to train light Infantry troops in urban combat situations. Soldiers are placed in a tense, hostile, and claustrophobic environment where they must complete a variety of military objectives. Players act as the Squad Leader, providing direction to Alpha and Bravo fire teams. The successful Squad Leader effectively uses cover in the environment and moves his fire teams in a coordinated fashion so they can protect themselves from possible attacks that could come from any direction. Full Spectrum Warrior puts you in the dirt with your men, where danger lurks around every corner.

Stuntman Ignition — Developed by Paradigm Studios and published by THQ, Stuntman Ignition puts you in the driver’s seat as you create spectacular Hollywood moments such as monstrous jumps, fantastic explosions and large-scale crashes. In this second entry entry into the popular series, you’ll live the life of a famous Hollywood stuntman, building your career from the ground up and taking death defying stunts to a whole new level.

  • Oh man, this week is going to be very interesting!!!

  • MW3 is gonna suck hard! It will never be as high of quality as BF3. Low resolution graphics, crappy hit detection, horrible P2P multiplayer rooms, etc. MW3 and all Call Of Duty titles are rents from now on. No more wasting sixty dollars on crap games.

  • yes finally mw3 =)!!!! who cares about graphics its about having fun!!! THANKS no more 1 men army !!! and of course MGS

  • great week , too many good games to buy them all at once
I would , if i could afford them all , buy metal gear HD collection , elder scrolls 5 , heavy rain directors cut and monopoly streets ( never had the time to play heavy rain so I haven’t got it yet )

if monopoly streets is cheap and Sony gets those $10 rebate codes out soon I might download it , everyone loves a good game of monopoly every once in a while .
definitely want skyrim soon too m looks too cool and it would take a few months to finish so can save money for the others until then

  • A lot of Games this week!!
Skyrim , MW3, and Heavy Rain so where is my money…

  • nice drop!!! now please take care on the hackers. we just want play!!!!

  • This is one of the best retail weeks of the year no doubt. I am currently playing UC3 on crushing for the platinum. MGS HD collection along with Skyrim is definitely exciting. As a long player of Call of Duty I won’t be picking up it up this year for I am tired of all the FPS as of late and getting tired of the same ol’ same ol’ with the CoD series, no doubt will be a good game just a no this year for me. Exciting to see a true classic released on PSN like Chrono Cross, soon with the FFV and FF VI on the way to PSN later this month. Enjoy the holiday seasons my friends! MAKE.BELIEVE

  • still hoping dark cloud series and killzone for ps2 classic next release

  • LOL@ anybody who actually buys MW3. The COD series officially died with Black Ops, anybody who buys and thinks MW3 is “Uber cool!” is only perpetuating the quickly diminishing quality of future games.

I mean think about it, if somebody is willing to buy MW3, even knowing it will be beyond epic failure, just because it is the ‘it’ thing to do, developers and publishers will fully realize they can peddle pure junk as long as it has a well known name attached to it. One could argue they have been doing this since MW2, but this is the peak for sure.

I think those planning on buying MW3 should do some research on snake oil. Because the term ‘sucker’ a major understatement in this case.

  • Too. Many. Western. Games. Desco is not pleased. There’s very little I want, and I’m gonna have to wait on it. Mostly because of the import game coming out this week.

For the import crowd Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend comes out this week, and that will be the first game I pick up from this week’s releases.

  • Is the digital release of the MGS collection also coming out this week by chance?

  • Looking real forward to play MW3

  • HEY PLAYSTATION!!! CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY IS MGS HD COMMING TO XBOX360 WTH!!! SONY U BETTER STEP IT UP BECAUSE UR LOOSING THE EXCLUSIVES AND NOW REMOVING THE GAMESHARE BASICALLY METAL GEAR SHOULD NOT BE FOR XBOX IM REALLY REALLY DISSAPOINTED AND NOW 360 SEEMS TO HAVE BETTER OFFERS…. THE ONLY THING WE NEED IS IN 2 YEARS AND UNCHARDTED HD IN 360.. REPLY TO ME GOD DAMMIT SONY >.<!!!

  • Skyrim won’t release until Friday though.

  • It’s nice to see so many of you feel like I do, excited about Skyrim and Lego Harry Potter. I have both on pre-order but once I finish U3, I will probably live in Skyrim for at least the rest of the year. I miss my beloved shack-on-the-water from Oblivion. I hope I will find another homey hovel in Skyrim.

    We need Skyrim avatars!

  • @113 mgs2 was also on xbox, mgs3 is being ported to 3ds, mgs1 remake was exclusive to gamecube, and metal gear never started on playstation, it started on pc.Only 4 was exclusive. For those getting skyrim, wait for the reviews of the ps3 version, I have a feeling it’s going to be a port. They haven’t shown ps3 footage and they even gave the 360 version to psxextrem, a playstation website, to review.

  • Quite a few top tier games coming out this week. I can’t wait to get my hands on Skyrim and own Chrono Cross again.

  • Will we ever get a PS3 only MGS game again? ? ? :-(

    + 2 more PS2 games, cool:P

    I will pray ;-D for TimeSplitters 2(+1&3) + SSX3 + R&C’s + The Getaway’s etc etc to come to PSN one day? ;)

  • I love how Gamers are bashing MW3 already and it hasn’t been released.

I’ll admit I have done some slandering about COD games in the past and the MP is not all it’s cracked up to be but, I am gonna give it a chance.

All the Over-Hype about Battlefield 3 was just as bad and I personally think the Campaign is terrible and the MP is exactly the same as Bad Co.2 with even more bugs and glitches.

It seems like MW3 will definitely have some relay value in the Spec Ops Modes, MP and their Campaigns have been pretty good so far….

  • Huummm….. Rayman Origins DEMO…. i try this one… :D

  • I’d really like to see a collection of ‘Old School Castlevania’ games exclusively for PSN download…. 1,2,3 & 4 together in one package

  • Epic week I think Happy Feet is going have to run for its money!!!
    MGS!!!!!

  • Fantastic week! But Sony, I’m still waiting for my $10 voucher. I received an e-mail saying that the voucher was on my psn received messages but it is not. What’s going on?!?

  • @Mister-Nep what platform is the Hatsune Miku game coming out on?? I’ve imported the PSP games and I love em, is this another PSP game??

  • CynicalNerd, you get a gold star and a free breakfast.. You may collect at your convenience.

  • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Chrono Cross!

  • I’m assuming that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is getting trophies for each game like the other HD collections. The only reason I’m assuming this instead of being satisfied with facts is because I can’t find any evidence online what-so-ever of this release having any trophies. O_o

  • When does Burger Time HD release? Next week, then?

  • M W 3, my game of the year!

    Skyrim, Yes please!

    MGS, okay, sounds good!

BF3, sucked hard as I predicted, just like all the other BF games!

  • MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3 MW3!!!!!!

  • Now all the crybabies have their Chrono Cross…

  • I already have heavy rain (i bought that day one when it released) and I’m beside myself excited about skyrim but the thing that’s catching my eye more than anything is the demo of rayman. I plan to pick that up day one!!

  • Please make available the following games as PS2 Classics:
    1) Sub Rebellion
    2) Red Faction (1 and 2)
    3) Snowblind
    4) Star Wars: Battlefront 2
    5) Star Wars: The Clone Wars
    6) Minority Report
    7) Psi-Ops:Tthe Mindgate Conspiracy
    8) Spiderman 2
    9) Battle Engine Aquila

  • Chrono Cross! One of the best RPG’s ever! If only, i could get trophies with this masterpiece.. .Hey Sony…?

  • Metal Gear Solid, Chrono Cross, and Call of Duty my bank account is going to be crying

  • Alot of hate on mw3..

  • How about getting Naughty Dog to re-release the Jak and Daxter games??? Im willing to spend $20 a pop on all of em even tho I still own em on Ps2

  • I hope one of these days we get Champions of Norrath for PS2 added to the PS Store. Sacred 2 is the only thing close to as good we have.

  • i got Stuntman ignition for PS3,it easy

  • Wait a second… what’s the point of releasing the PS2 version of Stuntman Ignition when there’s a PS3 version? Why not just release the PS3 version digitally instead and give that slot to some other more deserving PS2 game??

  • WE NEED GRAND THEFT AUTO SAN ANDREAS AS PS2 CLASSIC

  • While people are playing more of the same old same old with Cod, I’ll be enjoying 3 amazing campaigns in MGS HD Collection, getting the Collector’s edition art book as well :D 250 pages of awesome art work. Can’t wait!

  • Am I the only PS3 owner that thinks stealth games including the Metalgear series have always have been boring ?

Skyrim looks great but I’m opting for the PC version first and maybe the PS3 for casual play later on.

  • Just one question…

What happened to the “Spend $60 in the PSN in October and get $10 back in November” program?

I’m waiting for my $10, am I getting them this week or the next one?

  • Will Skyrim be available as a digital copy as well?

  • I LOVE MGS but I’m going to have to wait to get the MGS Collection & MW3 due to the huge backlog of games I have at the moment. Still working my way through UC3 which I got while I was about half way through Arkham City, Got Dead Island on sale for $40 from Amazon which I haven’t touched, kept Deux Ex from Gamefly for $30 and just rcv’d Resistance 3 in the mail finally. And I still want to try Battlefield 3.

Yeah, definitely going to have to wait.

  • Just cause you don’t like it doesn’t make it crap, Dragon Wolf.
I hate Call of Duty, but to call everything crap is pretty stupid and narrow sounding.
Every week can’t be an Uncharted week.

You always could go over to Xbox where almost every game is a Call of Duty or Halo knock off.

  • Your full of dog droppings if you think MW3 will be game of the year, its all about UNCHARTED 3….all cod of dudu games are the same, i dont care what people have to say about it because its all the same fps trash. Same set-up, guns, characters types, mp, and rankings along with the worst graphics. The only diffrence will probably be the maps. Play a real mans game UC3, and stop playing with 7yr olds noobs.

  • I can’t wait until November 18th. Nobody needs 5 active accounts, and if they do they can afford to buy a couple copies of the game. The game sharing is really screwing the developers out of a lot of money. I need a sequel to Sideway NY, and if you guys just steal it from your friends, instead of buying it I’ll never get it. When they change the policy, we’ll hopefully start getting some true ps1 and ps2 classics. Not saying anything against Chrono Cross, cuz it’s amazing. But I want DQ7, Legend of Dragoon, GTA SA and FF 12.

  • good droppings, I am waiting for the massive dump dropping SKYRIM
