UPDATE: On November 17th (Pacific Time), the PlayStation network will undergo maintenance. Once this maintenance window has completed, the new policy will apply. If you want to purchase content under the current rules, please do so before this maintenance begins on November 17th.
We’d like to inform you of some upcoming changes to the usage policies for PlayStation Network game content. As of November 18, 2011, the number of devices that can be activated on one PlayStation Network account for game content purchased from the PlayStation Store will be updated as follows:
For game content purchased after November 18, 2011, a new policy will apply and the number of devices that can be activated will be as follows:
- PS3: Users will be able to play the game on up to 2 activated PS3 systems.
- PSP: Users will be able to play the game on up to 2 activated PSP systems.
Please note that this update will not affect game content purchased before November 18. The PSP rights include PSP-1000/2000/3000 series as well as the PSPgo system.
PlayStation Network users are able to change the activation setting through each device, and Sony Computer Entertainment plans to provide a new PlayStation Network account management website where users will be able to deactivate particular devices attached to their PlayStation Network account via their PC.
For more details on how to activate/deactivate the devices, please visit here or contact consumer services.
As long as the “New PlayStation Network account management website” – Works better than the old Qriocity one I’m fine. We have 3 Active PS3’s in our household. We don’t ‘Share’ games between them as we each have our OWN PSN and want our own trophies etc. However, over the past 5 years. Repairs under warranty , and one replacement of a ylod PS3 has caused more than a few calls to Customer service to ‘deactivate’ PS3’s I no longer have access to deactivate. – Each time I’m warned it is the last time … etc. I still show having the “Max” activations and I only have one PS3 active. Two if you count watching netflix on another PS3. I’d love to be able to identify and deactivate PS3(s) either in the trash or previously replaced by Sony thru ‘Repair/refurbishing”.
I liked Ratchet426 suggestion: allow PS Plus members to play game on up to 3 activated systems. If you don’t already have a Plus subscription, but own 3 systems, you can upgrade your membership so you can still play on all three system. And more Plus members is good for Sony also :)
Actually it is taking something away. Up to that point, we had the option. After that point in time, we don’t have the option.
The option of using purchased content on up to 5 consoles was taken away.
@42,47 … I understand that. You suggested I should just pay for the same game more than once. I’m saying that’s ridiculous.
I support this move as long as the website for controlling activations work well.
I have 2 bricked ps3’s before my current one wich are still technically activated. Makes me worry that I may get shut off since I doubt I can get those others deactivated over the phone.
I have long lost the paperwork from when I bought them
from what it says, you can have your account active on two PS3’s AND two PSP’s, if that’s right i’m ok with it, since i was planning on buying a second PS3 as a family christmas gift.
but if it’s two systems period, that’s freaking stupid.
and hell, if they’d given us the ability to deactivate our accounts on other systems from the PC from day one, they wouldn’t have a single reason to complain about gamesharring.
No, you have it right. It’s two PS3s and two PSPs.
