The Drop: Week of August 8th 2011 New Releases

The PlayStation Network continues its summer dominance this week on The Drop. Take out The Jackal when the PS3 first-person shooter FarCry 2 joins PSN’s digital library of full-length PS3 games. Demos are also strong this week: You can try out Madden NFL 12 and Driver: San Francisco this week on PSN.

PlayStation Network

Far Cry 2 — Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out “The Jackal”, a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfil your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses, and neutralise their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

Madden NFL 12 — Madden NFL 12 continues the rich tradition of the storied franchise by bringing fans closer to the NFL than ever before. Featuring all 32 teams, stadiums, and all your favorite players in the league, Madden NFL 12 is True to the Game. All-new collision system, advanced defensive A.I. enhancements highlight the 2012 edition’s improved feature set, with Custom Playbooks also added provide a more authentic gameplay experience. Franchise mode includes more than 100 new features and enhancements, while Superstar mode now allows fans to control the growth of their superstar with an all-new progression system.

Dynamic Player Performance creates unprecedented realism as a player’s skills and confidence will rise and fall based on his performance throughout a game or in Franchise mode, just like the real NFL. No two players will play the same in Madden NFL 12. Further adding to the experience, Online Communities will provide an all-new way for Madden NFL gamers to meet and play, and Madden NFL Ultimate Team continues to offer the perfect combination of Madden NFL Football, fantasy football, and trading cards.

Driver: San Francisco — With crime lord Charles Jericho now on the loose San Francisco faces a terrible threat. Only one man can stand against him. He has driven the streets of a hundred cities, spent his whole life putting criminals behind bars. But to take Jericho down, there can be no turning back, and he knows that this may very well be his last ride. His name is John Tanner. He is the Driver.

Driver: San Francisco marks the return of the blockbuster driving franchise. Gamers play John Tanner, a hardened detective involved in a relentless manhunt throughout the City by the Bay. Thanks to a groundbreaking gameplay feature, players can now seamlessly shift between more than a hundred licensed vehicles, keeping them constantly in the heart of the action. With its timeless atmosphere, unique car handling and renewed playability, Driver: San Francisco offers the free-roaming, classic, cinematic car chase experience.

  • @57 and @106 at least you two are being positive about this and I agree with you two. Far Cry 2 is awesome, but I honestly recommend just buy Far Cry 3 when released in 2012. I can’t say anything about Madden never play a Madden game anyway, but Driver, one of my most anticipated games of 2011.

  • So people complaining, lol,it’s unimaginable what people’s expectations are.

  • @151 its hard to make everybody happy or satisfed. even if its store updates (ex/ ps1 psp and ps2 hd remakes), or a spec of consoles (hints the console wars).

    now off topic from 151.

if the far cry 2 ditigal cost more than buying the disc copy (new not pre-owned or used). i reather burn the gas and go buy the disc copy. i was even disopointed with the digtal copy of DA:O. i got the DA:O UE unused or pre-owned for $20. and hope far cry cost less than its disc copy becasuse i can get it less than $20 unused.

  • Yeah, get my hands on Madden ….

  • We want NHL avatars!

  • lmao! WOW, you serious? this is it? im sure you can do better, man

  • @ deathspear666 what im really wanting (and waiting ) to see is payday :the heist, and if psn delivers decent games for reasonable prices and are actually playable then maybe they will do more of it if they nail it. because it does look pretty decent but obviously cant go on trailers. but now they have inserted a system so if you buy say a certain 3 of the next upcoming psn games then the heist is free, which is not a bad deal BUT thats 3 games that wont suit everyones style, correct that , 3 games everyone may not want and i wish it was this simple, spend x amount of dollars on psn and get pay day or whatever it may be for free. it appears that they are doing more since the hack and maybe have plans to make psn plus more appealing, naileed it w/ borderlands and paradise bundles. maybe , hopefully, we are will see more variety/perks etc?

  • far cry 2 will appeal to some, and others like myself really didnt like the tempo/pace of the game. but it comes down to the price being appealing, w/ a stalemate of releases (deus ex in the crosshairs) until the upcoming months if they priced it right then those who never played it may buy it 2 kill time. as an example i bought sect 8 predj because i wanted to play something new and i just got it to get it w/o really wanting it. but far cry 2 is an older game so if they give a fair price people may purchase it but as everybody mentioned the game can be obtained easily for 10 bucks or less. and sorry about my spelling..

  • That’s great and all, but when are we going to see that Portal 2 DLC that was promised us this summer?

  • I checked for the Madden Demo last night, it wasn’t up? Do they (Demos) come out on Tuesday’s?

  • Madden 12 demo is not available. Do you have to buy the EA Sports season ticket to access it,or what. I’m not going to pay 24.99 for a demo.

  • I don’t mean to sound abrasive, but are we EVER getting those PSOne classics that have been ESRB approved?

I thought it’d be dead obvious to use something like Klonoa to make a crappy update less crappy. Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger are just obvious update savers too.

I could understand not releasing some of the games people are asking for that aren’t even rated by ESRB, but these four are rated and ready to go! Why not just release them so we can have a side of sweet with all this sour? This is your consumer market saying that WE’RE READY TO GIVE YOU OUR MONEY for good content.

But that exchange cannot happen if half of it does not exist.

Seriously… look at Chrono Trigger. Even if the PS1 version had a bit of unwanted load times, people will overlook that just because it’s Chrono Trigger. The name alone is one of the most famous names in RPG history, and it’d be an instant day-one power seller that reaches a level of sales the PSN hasn’t seen since Final Fantasy VII.

Give us good stuff. Get our money. It’s a simple rotation.

  • Question:

Is it possible for someone who can only access PSN via PSP to buy Avatars?

  • @153 I totally agree i was pretty excited when it came out on psn but half a year ago I saw it at walmart for 15 bucks. pretty disappointed…

  • Come on MLB Bobblehead pros!!!
