With every purchase of a PLAY title in the PlayStation Store throughout the duration of the program, you’ll receive a separate piece of DLC for each game, plus a new theme with every pre-order. If these incentives aren’t enough, if you’re 18 years or older and purchase all four PLAY titles in the PlayStation Store, you’ll get a voucher code for PAYDAY: The Heist as a bonus gift. And, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get an automatic 20% off every purchase.

Pre-orders will be available for all four PLAY titles starting next week on August 9 in the PlayStation Store. Remember, in order to qualify to receive PAYDAY: The Heist as a bonus gift, your purchases must be made by September 19, 2011.

  • Personally, I think this is great. I love free stuff and discounts. I will most likely pre-order and purchase all the games. I like playing games, don’t really care what kind of game it is.

  • Would really like to have seen Castlevania HoD be a part of this program. I’ll for sure be getting Street FIghter, but i’ll have to do a little research on the other games to see if they are my cup of tea.

  • Morgan Haro, I must say I love your optimism. You and a number of my friends in life say the samething to me a lot. That they want or wish to see that PlayStation Plus symbol above my avatar. Unfortunetly the coupon book (that is indeed how, I view it) just does not catch my interest. It is not the price either. It’s the lack of “validation” or reasoning (the pros to obtaining a program in which offers myself very little.) Beta’s, promotions, and “exclusives” in which others have to wait for a unspecified (usually a week or more in most cases) just does not catch my interests. Those may very well, be incitives to others. However, I feel it’s just not justifiable (especially since I can more then patient enough to wait more often then not.) Also it reminds me of the contract that is soon to end (due to expiration) between Activision and Microsoft with their timely exlusives to Call of Duty content. Which just leaves a sour taste in my mouth (and no, that was not a perveted or intentional pun.)

Still. I enjoy such optimism. I’m more then rational. If you want you can always try to e-mail or contact me somehow through here in the blog or by other means if you want to discuss views, and opinions.

    • ONE DAY. Do appreciate your feedback though, it doesn’t go unnoticed. You can always find me in the forums as well in the PSN Spaces. I’m ‘mochuuu’.

  • Pre-Orders is a bomb idea if you guys implement this for all future PSN content. I, for one, would be a big supporter

  • I am thankful that Sony is doing something of this nature, but I do have some criticisms – how else would change occur without a voice of dissent.
I wish the prices were lower, but unfortunately $14.99 is becoming the norm as my fellow gamers make it so. As to the included extras, I have never seen the point in having/buying multiple themes. I wish there was a “random” option so as to have the theme rotate on a daily basis.

    • The themes are really just the bonus for the pre-orders. You get a gift for your purchase when the game releases in the form of DLC, or in BloodRayne:Betrayal’s case, an exclusive Dynamic Theme and Home item. So to me, the DLC is the best reward and you get it when, or shortly after the game releases. Pre-order, or buy it when it drops to get the Release extras, as long as it’s before 9/19/2011

  • I’m buying Street Fighter 3rd Strike upon release. But how does the Pre Order work? Do I just drop 5$ like regular stores or what gives?

  • PAYDAY: The Heist looks interesting, don’t know about the others though.

  • Mmm, interesting. All in all I could take my PS+ discount and make this work. Would like it if we got only DLC for each game instead of a “home item” as getting an extra area in The Baconing is more appealing to me than getting a new chair made out of bacon for Home…

    • The Home extra is only for BloodRayne. All other titles you’ll get DLC. For example, Baconing get you an additional co-op character, Roesha – One Bad Mutha.

  • Put some crazy a s s games out there and i might consider buying…

  • Ok, SLOWLY read the post again and I see that only Bloodrayne has a home item as it’s free extra. Mmm, guess I’ll be getting all games then!

  • Off topic: Oh forgot to add I just bought Crash Commando a few days ago and now it’s free grrrrr :(

  • Definitely going to get 3rd Strike. Not sure about the other games. Glad Plus subscribers get a discount!

  • @NuBiXx ..I almost made the same mistake lol Glad i forgot to hit “confirm” lol

  • Is it available in Brazil?
    Please do it. Tks

  • Is my plus working now?

  • awesome to hear no subscription but by the title it makes it sound like it is gonna cost something maybe change your words up a little next time might help like this is a annual even not program

  • Im only interest to get street fighter 3 as part of that program but renegade ops look good though,is like an arcade game. The baconing and BloodRayne: Betrayal doesnt interest me somewhat. BloodRayne: Betrayal look like shank and castevania combine.I like castlevania symphonie at night and shank but i dont think bloodrayne btrayal may end up being fun to play.I think they need to put more games on that program to let people choose what game they really want to get is not what sony decide to choose for people to buy.

  • I have a quick question, Do I have to pre-order the 4 titles at the same time or as long as my pre-orders are done by September 19, 2011 I will the FREE game?

    • As long as you preorder OR purchase all 4 of these titles before 9/19/11 and are over 18, then you’ll qualify for Payday free

  • @Morgan Haro,

Alright. Well, in the spirit of discussion I have to ask is this “annual program” a subscription based “annual program” or is it free to all and anyone (even those of us outside of the PlayStation Plus program?) Because, unfortunately the way the begginning and end of the article is worded (as well, as described) It feels like it will be a subscription based program. If you could (maybe) clarify that more and ammend (or reword) a few things so, as to not lead to that confussion or misunderstanding; would go a long way as to not misleading the public or myself. As I am under the impression that it may be indeed another service in which one must pay to be a part of.

Also how, long will this programs season last and/or how, many times can one expect to see this progam yearly? As in will it only be seen once a year (example: once a year for two to four weeks?) It’s important information such as this that many may feel is missing or misleading. In any case it is vital information that needs to be adressed.

I’ll have more to discuss, and questions. However, I’d like to hear back on this bit first. Small steps.

    • There’s no subscription aspect to PSN PLAY. The program dates that this in effect for are from 8/9 – 9/19/2011. As of now, it’s a yearly event. Hope that helps!

  • What would make this deal awesome is only having to purchase 3 of the 4 games to get Payday. I don’t like fighting games so the fact that Street Fighter is one of the titles will keep me from purchasing anything. I may purchase one or two at a later time, but for now will just wait it out. If 3 were required, I would be whipping my credit card out Aug. 9th.

I realize you cannot please everyone with the title selection and you managed to pick titles from a variety of genres, but that also almost guarantees everyone will not like at least one of the games. I recommend next time either requiring the purchase of 4 games from a total of 5. Any chance a 5th title could be added?

  • this is a good program, some people may take advantage of it. But what happened to the days when PSN games were $5-$10?

  • I’d bite if the PS+ discount was just a liiiiitle bit more.

  • @Rorek_IronBlood

By annual, they mean “occurring once a year”. There is no subscription. You choose to pre-order any or all of the new $15 games, then receive DLC and a theme as incentive for doing so. Buying all four will get you a 5th game for free.

Once it’s over, we’ll have to wait until next Summer for the next set of new games with similar pre-order incentives.

  • When I go on the blog, I expect to see people complain and well I’m seeing it. This is a great idea, I’ll be getting Third Strike for sure and a theme is nice as part of the pre order deal. :) Also 20% off! Hooray!

  • Getting Payday for free sounds great, but when does it release? It sounds like we get it when it releases but it doesn’t release that 5th week.

  • I’ll be preordering everything, looks like some good gaming with my nephew.

  • The only game I’m interested here is SF III online. I’ve never been a fan of deathspank, and a sega combat racing game? Rather get twisted metal.

    • Sicne Twisted Metal has been delayed till 2012; Renegade Ops may not be a bad way to tide you over. I’ve heard some pretty sweet thing about; and plus it uses the Just Cause 2 engine, which makes it look gooooood.

  • So basically I get free DLC/goodies and 20% off for buying games I was already going to buy? Holy crap.

  • This is a pretty sweet offer, not sure why anyone is complaining about free stuff. With a 20% discount I’ll get Baconing no doubt. Have been extremely interested in Bloodrayne, I’ll see how the reviews look, same with Renegade Ops. But if I end up with those 2 as well, might as well pick up Street Fighter to get Payday for free.

Which brings me to my question, hopefully you see this Morgan. Will the games have 20% PS+ discount through the duration of the PLAY event? Or just their first week of release?

    • Plus subscribers get the discount throughout the event, up till 9/19/2011. You can start preordering the content as soon as the 8/9 Store Update hits!

  • @Mr_Chun,

That may very well, be so, but it is also a responsibility of theirs to make sure to accurately word it all, and even clarify or rectify any confussion. As I pointed out it is worded in just such as way that many may be confussed and/or turned off. As for the rest of my inquiry; I feel they are justifiable questions with meaning. This may not just be a once a year event and/or may become an all year event (sort of like that of all year around schooling is, but with time inbetween nonetheless.) There is still much to be discussed and questioned though.

I’ll just await for, Morgan Haro, to respond (hopefully.) However, thank you, for replying back to me in-turn.

  • You guys should add Paypal support to PSN, that way i won’t have to buy those PSN Cards , because my Credit Card is unexcepted !

  • Nice. It’s good to see some type of preorder incentives added to PSN. I really hope you all look to make this a permanent thing. Preorder incentives are a big reason people choose one retailer over another so something to give users more incentive to buy through PSN is a big plus for PSN and users.

  • Nice way to punish non-plus owners into buying overpriced downloadable titles without a discount.

  • Pre-order bonuses on downloadable stuff is one of the biggest shams I’ve seen, holy crap.

  • @Morgan Haro, So no subscription, so I can openly go to the PlayStation store next Tuesday and this program will allow me to preoreder street fighter? Do I have to sign sign up or anything at all?

    • Exactly. PSN PLAY is for everyone! Any PSN member can jump in the store, preorder SF3 and get their Free SF3 theme. When the game comes out, they’ll also get their free piece of DLC (unlockable character). If you’re a Plus subscriber, you can get all that, and 20% off as well.

  • There’s supposed to be a Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection, correct?

    Will this be included?

  • @121, It IS worded correctly. Both “annual”, and “program”, don’t mean that it is restricted to PS+ users. This is going to be a yearly (annual) event (program) for ALL PSN users. The words are slightly different, but the meaning is the same. Read closely.

  • Outside of 3rd Strike, I really don’t care about any of these games. Still it’s nice to see something simmilar to Summer of Arcade on the PSN. Plus the 20% is nice.

  • Great initiative. I’m hoping you guys will have a Winter and a Spring promotion as well. Winter for Christmas and Spring because of the games drought. Spring, Summer, Christmas PSN Play seasons sound good to me.

  • Guess Street Fighter 3 TS is going to keep me busy until Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is released :P

And I’m loving the Plus benefits, I mainly got it for the automatic updates, but the discounts and the saves cloud are big pluses (pun not intended).

I wish we could share our saves though (even if the trophies were blocked), because sometimes I just don’t have the time to unlock eveything in a game, so I’m kind of dissapointed when a save is locked and want to access the special features without having to S rank every mission or something time-consuming like that.

  • Will this hamper, ie prolong, Castlevania Harmony of Despair’s release date? And do you have any info on that release date?

    • I don’t have any info on the release date, but this program will not interfere with other Store releases that will be going on.

  • Is PSN PLAY going to be available to Canada as well? wouldn’t mind buying some of those PSN games… though would’ve preferred if we could bundle any 3 upcoming PSN games (ie Okabu, Skullgirls, RE remakes, etc).

  • Still no Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath :(

Hopefully that will be before this. Otherwise I like this idea.

  • this is just as crappy as ps+

  • Thanks for the responses Morgan. I’m a huge fan of Just Cause 2 so Renegade Ops excites me the most.

One question: Does PAYDAY: The Heist have a Platinum trophy? I’m assuming the other 4 do not.

  • Maybe just SF3 for me.

  • Count me IN!!!!!!! I got money to burn.
