The Drop: Week of June 25th 2011 New Releases

The Drop returns with a strong collection of third party games and unique PSN titles this week.

Before you hit the jump, make sure you take a quick recap session of what we’ve been up to since you last visited The Drop. We conquered E3 with our live stream show from the PlayStation Booth, we’ve announced PS Vita and its phenomenal price of $249.99 and finally, we’ve ventured into the Chimerian occupied Earth with the premiere of our dev diaries with a behind-the-scenes retrospective on Resistance 3.

PlayStation 3

Dungeon Siege III — Torn asunder, the delicate balance of power between the kingdom of Ehb’s powerful factions has fallen apart. As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness. Joined by a group of unique companions, you will travel through the striking land of Ehb defeating all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and pure cunning.

F.E.A.R 3 — Nine months ago, Point Man and his F.E.A.R. squad were tapped to stop a telepathically gifted cannibal who had begun a murderous rampage. Point Man learned the target was his brother, Paxton Fettel, working alongside their tortured and psychically powerful mother, Alma Wade. Despite this revelation, Point Man followed orders to destroy them and subsequently ravaged the surrounding city and most of his F.E.A.R. team. Now, it is clear that Alma’s psychic influence survived— and worse, she is about to birth something that could destroy the world.

Fettel has returned from death with an unclear agenda, refusing to leave Point Man’s side and asking for help to reach Alma. The remaining F.E.A.R. squad is still trying to complete their mission. With his chain of command broken and Point Man calling his own shots, where will his allegiance lie?

Shadows of the Damned –– With Shadows of the Damned, creative geniuses Suda 51 (No More Heroes) and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) present an all-new vision of hell unlike anything seen before! A psychological action thriller, Shadows of the Damned follows a demon hunter deep into a hyper-twisted re-imagining of hell where he must rescue the love of his life by defeating the armies of darkness with the power of the light.

Garcia is a hard-as-nails, leather-clad, motorcycle-riding professional demon hunter who finds his true love kidnapped by vengeance-seeking demons. As he explores the farthest reaches of the netherworld, Garcia battles through hell and back, with danger and turmoil around every corner. Throughout Shadows of the Damned gamers will find themselves challenged by demented puzzles and thrust into gruesome battles with vile and deformed creatures that can only come from the darkest recesses of hell.

Cars 2 — Bring players inside the international training center CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage), where they choose from more than 20 different characters and train to become world class spies. As part of their international training, they will participate in simulated hazardous missions using high-tech gadgets to evade and slow down adversaries.

  • @93 I don’t think you realize that the Vita is practically a console & this is around the same price as the PSP started at

  • Wow.

Pickings are kinda slim… I can understand why some seem unreal since people are asking for games that haven’t even been rated by the ESRB.

…but what about the games that HAVE been rated by the ESRB? Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger have been rated and ready to go since before the PSN went down, and even FF5 has weeks under it’s belt since it’s been rated.

Why not just go ahead and release those? I can understand anticipation building strategies, but there’s a fine line between build-up and teasing.

  • So new info on Beyond Good and Evil yet, huh? You guys answered questions at the top but you can’t have missed people asking about this for weeks in your comments. Even just a “We don’t have any information” would be appreciated at this point, but you aren’t even acknowledging it. Pretty poor customer relations there, Sony.

  • I’m glad to see you back with The Drop Rey.

When PSone classics come up, I hope you will add Breath of Fire III and IV. I totally want to give you my money to get those games.

Also, any chance of Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions going up on PSN in the near future? It’s the main game I want to carry over with me when I get the Vita.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Still waiting for beyond good and evil… guys….

  • I’m excited for bg&e as well. But Jeff Rubenstein addressed it yesterday.

It *is* on the way, and our friends at Ubisoft are preparing a post about it which will hopefully run this week.

  • <<<<Add me!!

  • I’m still waiting for you guys to put Lumines on the PSN store. My PSP Go feels dead inside without it. Is there any reason why it’s not there?

  • And still no Beyond Good & Evil HD… this is just unbelievable! I don’t know who to be mad at; Ubisoft or PSN?! Please just release it for American PSN PLEASE!!!!

  • As much as I only rant about lack of Duodecim content, this week’s Drop is underwhelming when it came back. Maybe you should have used this when there was a ton of content dropping in PSN two weeks ago. That update was a blast (except the supposed 012 DLC’s are still missing).

  • Nice, not great stuff for me.
But I’m glad to see things getting back to normal.

  • Any news on when Dino Crisis 2 is going to be available,It was supposed to be available weeks ago,But still no sign of it.

  • Welcome back Rey..

Hope this Alien Zombie game is good!

Any clue when the onslaught of classic Square PS1 titles will come down the pipe? (Parasite Eve 2, Chrono Trigger)

  • Wasn’t there supposed to be a LA Noire release today?

  • @ 96: Well; I stand corrected. I must admit that the last time I shopped for a HDD was last September (shortly after that 9.5mm/750GB/5400 RPM WD HDD I mentioned was discontinued). There are (again) some 750GB drives that will fit in the PS3 (ST9750420AS @ 7200 RPM; WD7500BPKT @ 7200 RPM; HN-M750MBB @ 5400 RPM) but heat may become a problem with a faster hard drive. I’ve read plenty of forum posts that say the extra heat from a 7200 RPM drive isn’t good for the PS3 (and I believe it because my 7200 RPM desktop drives get pretty darned hot). You’re probably better off sticking to 500GB @ 5400 RPM.

I use external USB drives for media storage. My complaint is that PS3 takes 20 to 40 minutes (using “Display All”) to “see” all the files on my 2TB WD Elements drives. I don’t even try looking “normally” (I let it sit for two hours the last time and the icons were still spinning and “locked”). If it reads internal disks faster, I can understand why someone might want to “modify” the case to fit a 1TB drive. I think it’s stupid but to each their own…

  • Glad to see The Drop back, and just like to say my favorite part of the Playstation.blog is the fact that you guys actually respond to the comments we post. It says something about your commitment to the fanbase!!

Don’t know if anyone posted this info already, I only looked far enough to see I’m not the only one who cashed in on the Outland avatar.
