Identity Theft Protection Offer for PlayStation Network and Qriocity Customers

Starting today, PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States can begin the enrollment process for the identity theft protection program by visiting http://us.playstation.com/news/consumeralerts/identity-theft-protection/. We are also notifying customers of the enrollment landing page via email, which you will receive in your inbox this week.

As previously announced, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment have made arrangements with Debix to offer the AllClear ID PLUS identity theft protection program to PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers who are concerned about identity theft following the criminal cyber attack on the network. AllClear ID PLUS is a premium identity protection service that uses advanced technology to deliver alerts to help protect you from identity theft. The service also provides identity theft insurance coverage and hands-on help from expert fraud investigators. Sony has arranged, at no charge to eligible PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders, for twelve months of this service to be provided by Debix to those who choose to enroll.

In order to be eligible, account holders must be residents of the United States with active accounts as of April 20, 2011.

  • I bet Sony’s sitting back eating up all this. From rumors, and these are just rumors, Sony is waiting until the 31st when their fiscal year begins or whatever. I’d also bet money that the store and everything else is working just fine. It’s that whole paradox of being told no and only wanting it more. They’re baiting everyone.

  • I’m not sure if I trust this program. I don’t know if it’s going to inundate me with junk mail later. Also, there’s just something that doesn’t sit well with me when someone offers you real protection “after the fact”!

  • Only thing impatient about is now when but a new disc game and its one where u have to put in code, you can’t right now, so unit dirt3, and can’t access any online play or the extra cars etc that I get for free, cuz I can’t put in a code. trying to be patient and I’m happy w Sony s handling of situation just getting to my end of patience rope is all….

  • at this point guys, I would guess that the store will be up by the deadline Sony has already given – May 31st. That’s this coming Tuesday, and makes sense as that would be a normal publish day. I’m not expecting it until then …

  • We commend Sony for taking care of their customers. Would have been nice to see a wider selection of games covering all the genres – RPG, Sports, Action/adventure, etc..

  • I would also like to see if we are offered a way to change our PSN id. I’m a little sick of the one I have, I just don’t feel like making a new account to change it. If you ever come out with one, that would be great in my eyes. And thanks for doing all of this hard work to ensure the safety and entertainment of the community.

    To everyone who can’t read the previous comments, the store and PSN should be up fully by May 31. Also, Canada is getting these protection services, they’re just working on it.

    Nobody has to ask these questions as long as you read…

  • MY BANK ACCOUNT GOT TARGETED!!, A few days ago my bank noticed a small withdrawal of 82 cents from an unknown person by the name of Thomas Hoyt. Suspecting identity theft they put a hold on my account. I had to go down to the bank and get a new debit card with a new # they told me people that commit identity theft usually will withdraw a small amount first to make sure it works before they take it all. I was very pleased that my bank noticed it. I recommend that everyone take whatever theft protection playstation has to offer.

    my ps3 blu-ray movies dont work and i got 21 of them new games crysis2 ,mortal kombat, will occasionally work i have either wait 2hours to play or eject and reinsert plus im well over my 2 year warranty

Also for all those sily enough to trade in your ps3 for an xbox and are moaning about this incident have you all forgotten the red ring of death and how mony xbox got them and having to wait for the fix. All i have had to do is wait for sony to get the [DELETED] in order and then they are giving me free stuff ty and i can understand if u are not giving much info when services are fully back up as it would seem if u are wrong, it is treated as if you just ripped our soul sipped from us.   • @ 479 japan actualy in my opinion have better standards and work ethic than americans it costs americans quite a bit in lost work and bogus work comp claims they also are dealing with nuclear meltdown and cleanup of the aftermath and i think it is quite rude to complain about them when they have alot of work to be done boohoo you dont have the store but many there dont have any home or possesions left and i am an american just mad that you could even go there you ought to be ashamed of your self knock sony i dont care but you have no right to generalize like that

  • @485 I was waiting for a post like this.. Look I get all the stuff your saying and yea I agree with most of it, but heres the thing. Sony refuses to talk to us. If this were and american company that type of behavior wouldn’t happen.. a good example is Blizzard ent. They actually talk to the communaty at least. A nucular melt down shouldn’t keep someone from spending 5min to answer the question we are all asking and that is WHEN WILL THE STORE BE UP. Its a question not a complaint.. get it straight.

  • @Zachary0543 (#18) So PSN isn’t for hardcore gamers? I’m sorry, I’m still new to the PS community, but I’d say PSN users can have just as much of a hardcore gaming experience as Xbox Live users. Appreciate the due recognition of Sony’s efforts though.

  • The worst part about all this, is that all of these people calling us “complainers” for being unhappy that the store is down don’t realize the number one rule of technological business–ANGRY CUSTOMERS ARE IMPORTANT TO GROWTH. If people don’t complain, then no one would ever know what’s wrong with the company. People would just leave and go to other systems without telling them how to improve their services, and they’d be left in the dark about where they went wrong.

    People have every right to be upset about this. That’s the beauty of capitalism! You buy a product and can’t use it, you’re going to be unhappy–and don’t give me that “But PSN is free!” garbage. People who have bought PSN cash cards, DLC cards, PS+ cards–they bought a service and can’t use it. Imagine if you bought minutes for your prepaid cellphone, and then were told that you couldn’t use it for an undetermined amount of time, and no one really seemed keen on updating you as to what was going on with the service–would you stay with that company?

  • I am totally amazed at all of you that are praising SONY for giving us this protection service. Have all of you forgotten that it was SONY’s fault in the first place for losing our information? They are the ones that decided to run their security on the cheap using bailing wire and spit to keep our information secure. If they had spent some of the hundreds of millions of dollars they have earned from us this problem wouldn’t have occured and the store wouldn’t be down right now.

    I am a loyal SONY customer. I own a SONY TV, Surround, PS3, Camera, Etc.. I just can’t believe how badly SONY is treating us by not providing more information. I just want to know about ‘scheduled’ maintenance before the day it actually happens. I want to be given more updates than ‘shooting for the end of the month’. I want a major rumor to be debunked BEFORE the day the rumor supposedly happens. I guess this is too much to ask for.

    I would really love to spend some money in the playstation store but I can’t. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone gave us some info as to why the store is not up yet? I would be happy to wait if only I kney WHY I was waiting.

  • Sony hasn’t got nothing straight . There tv’s suck samsung is way better. Their corporation is a bunch of liars. I will no longer sell a single item from Sony ever again. I work in the retail bushiness and all my time and effort will be selling any product other than your own. Go lie to some other people while your at it.
