Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. Thank you sony for all your hard work during what has probably been the most insane 3 weeks ever. I am proud to have been with sony since the psx and continue with the ps3. Can’t wait for the store to be back up as i do some online gaming but mainly download demo’s purchase games and addon’s. Can’t wait to play Mortal Kombat online once the store is back up, sucks that it requires the redeem code but i do understand the reasoning behind it.
I was just wondering as i have seen conflicting information but for the free 30 days of ps+ for any content gotten through that will it expire after the 30 days or are we going to be able to keep it wether or not if we end up subscribing to it or not?

I am very glad to see this is back up. I know a lot of people have been upset, but being in the tech field for most of my life, I know that security is extremely important. While it is horrible what happened, and unfortunately likely cost Sony a lot of money and will likely continue to cost them a lot of money as they fulfill Welcome Back requests, I am still behind you 100%. I am glad to see Sony is doing what they can to make this right, including the IDtheft protection. To me, that shows that Sony really does care about their customers.
Let me start by saying thankyou to Sony for getting the PSN started again. I would like to know when I will have access to the downloaded content I have already purchased on my 2 accounts. I have over $1000 in dlc I would like to redownload A.S.A.P. Again thanks from a loyal playstation customer.

I have heard alot of rumors that we will have to pay to play online on the PS3. Jeff is this true? Please answer this question as soon as possible.
Keep up the good work Playstation people. This has been a difficult time on both ends, the players and Sony, but I’m happy to hear that things are getting sorted out.
At the end of the end of the day, all I want out of my PS3/PSP/PSN is to have fun, and it’s not my entire life but it does indeed factor into it. For all the developers, producers etc affected,and also Sony, I just want you guys to know that I appreciate your work.

no we can’t enjoy cross-chat… that is an xbox 360 feature……, ps3 was never designed to do cross game chat and never willl because it cannot be updated and it wont work from what I have heard even if they were goin to add it stilll would not be possible to add the feature now its too late
Just wanna say thanks alot for all the hard work you guys are puttin into psn. I understand ppl get antsy and fustrated after awhile but it takes time to resecure a worldwide network, and make sure its well secured. Finally! I’ll get to play Portal co-op, thank you Sony staff, I’ve been waiting for this.
Im in the same boat with the online bit.. Not with Mortal Kombat tho.. bought and activated that on day one (19th) the day before PSN go boom.
My trouble is I cannot play NFS hot pursuit or aShift 2 online because EA likes to make you put in codes to access the online stuff, and since I bought those during the outtage… guess Im stuff till the store goes online.
Rumor has been floating around that this Tuesday will see the store come back up.. but comon guys lets be semi realistic. After it took nearly a month to get PSN back now you are expecting the PS store to be up 3 days later? Would it be nice? Hell yes. In the realm of possibility? Maybe. Tho honestly it is not very likely.

Are you kidding me? Your “brand loyalty” paid off? Who did it pay off for? The hackers who are selling your identity on the black market?
I’ll tell you all this… Sony has a long way to go to earn my trust again, and this is coming from someone who owns two PS3s, and a dozen or more other Sony brand equipment (PSP, TVs, A/V Receiver, Blu-ray players, camera, camcorder, etc). A partial restore of PSN and a FAQ that doesn’t even cover timelines for core services (eg. PlayStation Store) is not enough.
Also, how about telling Canadians what you’re going to do to protect their identities. The longer you take the more at-risk we all are as our private information is spread through the underground.
