Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: Zipper will announce details on activities to re-engage fans of SOCOM 4 who have patiently waited to play online.Q: What about the Call of Duty: Black Ops Double XP weekend that was missed while PSN was down?
A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. I want to know if I change my account info to anonymous stuff like a fake address and changing my real name to Chrispy Critter will cause my account to be banned. I don’t trust Sony with that info anymore..since 1st getting online I have kept my real name anonymous and only associated this gaming name with Sony.
The info is probably already out there somewhere but I would prefer to not take chances of it being stolen again. I have made quite a few exploiters/hackers mad by reporting/confronting them over the years on Socom and even had a few death threats..most were probably just idle threats but it only takes 1 nut. Most of that was years ago on Socom 2/3&CA though so I’m not all that worried really.
I doubt there is much Sony could do to ever regain my trust again. I wish there was an option to just remove my personal info from PSN accounts altogether as I have more than one username.

I seriously want to know if you guys chose your ‘new servers’ with ‘new functionalities’ that pertain to the PSN experience in the gaming world rather security. I do admire the work you’ve done, but will the massive downtime, it would have been very smart to replace some routers, switches, and added servers that may pertain to many requested functionalities that may reveal themselves at E3….

Jeff, I have met you at the Resistance/Insomniac Games meet up back in Hollywood a couple months back and you were so nice. Go Dodgers, LOL. Anyways I really want to make it to this years E3 PS Blog meetup cause I have missed in the last few years (in fact never been to the E3 meet-ups all together). When will we know when that meet-up is, cause I hear it’s the best meet-up of the year.

Just makes me that much more proud to own the best system around and knowing you guys took the time to make sure your fanbase is looked after! I normally don’t play games online but I’m sure a lot of people that do thought their life was over and went into gaming depression and now want your heads and tons of free stuff. I’m just glad I can safely use my network for all the things I enjoy. Just looking forward to the new content in the Store when it goes online! Again, awesome job.

The wellcome back offer should be credit for the Playstation Store so we can spend it anyway we want! Thats the most fair way to compensate all of us! You shpuld think about it!

I would like to take this opportunity to voice a complaint. I had to walk to a neighbor’s house and borrow their computer to make this post. My computer is fried. Why did Sony bother giving the PS3 a web browser if they were never going to support it? I can’t log onto this site from my PS3, which makes no sense to me.
You guys have managed to survive a huge crisis with the intrusion and PSN outage, I think you did a wonderful job and I thank you. Now fixing the web browser seems like such a simple task, doesn’t it?
