Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!
thank you sony for ur support
@ SGTNARD
Actually, Netflix only still worked for us during the first week of the outage. After that, we could bypass the sign-ins but when we tried to watch something, it would give an error. So, for about two and a half weeks, it didn’t work. It’s been fine since PSN came back up, though. We were watching Cheers and Married… with Children yesterday and plan to get in some X-Files and Dr. Who today ;)
And FWIW, a friend of mine went the Xbox route and he ALREADY got the red light of death! I feel for him but all I can do is laugh.
Yeah, thank you Sony for restoring PSN :) Finally I can play BC2 online again :)
Thanks again for your hard work Sony!
all i can say is thanks……
SGTNARD
Yeah SGTNARD i did know about that but for the past couple of weeks it just stopped and yes due trust the bill was paid. LOL My mean CO (Wife) just can’t live without Netflix.
Peace!
Sony does NOT deserve any thank you’s! Many people’s credit cards were hacked. I talked directly to sony, my personal info was deleted off of sony over 6 months ago, so I was suppose to be safe. They were just covering their own asses. Ironically the same day psn goes back online, my account and many others from the same financial institute were wiped out. Charges coming from Cali. when I live on the east coast, all due to PSN. Our financial institution even stated that Sony was lying just to cover their own ass. Watch your accounts close and be AWARE! And hell no! I will not thank sony for anything!
It was well worth the wait.
Back to the battlefield I go :)
Socom 4 and red dead multiplayer finally i see the light

THAT SUCK’S!
thankyou for fixin psn and for taking your time doing it to make sure it is stronger and better now you guys are great and still have a fan in me for life!!!!
SONY: Over the period of Sony being hacked, I lost my original PS3. I have replaced it and I have logged on to the network. My question is: A few of my games are telling me to activate the online access code in order to play online. It gives me 7 days to activate. What happens if this part of the network is not restored within the next 6 days? Will I be allowed to use the trial version, or what? Whenever I try to activate the code, it tells me the system is down for service.
Thanks
I just hope the store is back up for Escalation!! Thanks Sony
Thanks Sony for getting the services back up and running. Also I hope you catch the moron that created all these problems and throw the book at him…
Now that it’s (mostly) back, I can finally post on the official blog on this matter.
As a network engineer for the last 15 years, I am outright appalled not only at the entire situation but at the fact that people are actively THANKING Sony and trying to say Sony has no blame in this. If one of my networks got hacked and had sensitive user data compromised, do all you “it’s not Sony’s fault” people HONESTLY believe I could use that as an excuse and keep my job?
No network is 100% secure, this is true, but Sony’s network was so insecure it had a gigantic bullseye on it with the words “HACK ME” painted on it. The mere fact that ANY personal data was in clear text should be appalling to ANYONE who works in the industry (or anyone who cares about their personal data security).
(Continued)
(Continued from above)
To top it off, they utterly mismanaged the entire public relations side of the issue, waiting to tell people that data was compromised and hiding behind the excuse that they wanted to wait to make sure they knew the scope of the breach. WRONG AGAIN. Once you know there’s an external intrusion, you notify your consumers IMMEDIATELY. PERIOD. The scope of the breach doesn’t matter – you tell your customers/clients right away to watch for any fraudulent activity. Then when you discover the scope of the breach, you can come back and get in front of it by having solid information on the amount of damage done. You don’t WAIT A WEEK (or, in SOE’s case, three weeks) to notify customers, spending most of that changing stories about why the service was down.
Sony deserves no “thank you”, no “praise” because this entire situation has proven, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that Sony was utterly irresponsible when it came to their network design and security and that Sony still doesn’t “get it” in terms of online security and online multiplayer.
Completely excited that the network is back…and no matter how long it would have taken i would never turn my back on Playstation…and by the way thanks for my playstation rewards t shirt…Love PS and PSN
would be nice if Sony would pass out some loyalty perks to it’s customers, like codes for a couple of free games or a new PS3…
i cont play ps3 network but my frined playing why ? pless help me
Kaz, I cannot tell you how pissed off I am at you and Sony. And I swear, if for one second you entertain the notion of implementing a cheap ‘apology’ package that doesn’t go well above and beyond, then you can kiss my business goodbye for good. I’m serious. You SHOULD lose money over this. This mess is historic. The restitution better damn well be just as historic.
Great point Wahyrne.
Its About Time Now I Just Need Playstation Store
tnx…………
IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!! Now me and my #1 MK fighter Scorpion can get ready to raise some hell and whoop some a$$ online!! Hurry up Sony!!! =D
to kfunnybear I am can,t wait
For all you people still complaining about your data being lost and your credit card info possibly being stolen – I feel no pity for you. As soon as you reciveved notice of even the possibility of a network breach you should have cancelled your card and ordered a new one.
Sony is not the first place to get hacked and they won’t be the last. Google it. Financial institutions, websites, all kinds of places are in the news occasionally with “we just want to warn you that your info may have been distributed, lost , stolen, etc.” As long as there is technology, there will be someone out there looking for new ways to infiltrate it.
Sony – thanks for working hard to get us back to enjoying our online games. I have gotten rusty and died more times than I killed people this weekend, but I had a lot of fun doing it.
PSN is back up now….. AMAZING !!!
Thanks Sony of the psn!!
Yay for Sony?? Yeah great job at letting your network be compromised. Oh and thanks for letting our personal info out there for the hackers to get. Thankfully I have no information on my account because after PS2 I went to the 360.
So maybe it is time for Sony to follow in the footsteps of Microsoft and make PSN a pay service so that you can properly maintain your network to prevent such intrusions. I am not sure why other commenters believe that the PS3 is the “better system” but I have news for them, they are almost equal. The only thing that you can compare is online network and content available. And IMO Microsoft wins there. Oh, I know, you guys have a browser… AWESOME!
Enjoy your network! It’s just too bad that all PS3 CoD:BO players missed out on the Double XP weekend…
SONY! I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO SOLD THEIR PS3 TO GET AN XBOX, BUT IM NOT ONE OF THEM. I APPRECIATE ALL THE HARD WORK YOU GUYS HAVE DONE, AND ARE DOING. I VOW TO STAY A PS3 OWNER.
Glad to finally be back online!
Now, hurry up with the PSN Store!

@Hawkeez SONY is perhaps one of the most advanced gaming and entertainment company’s in the world. By the way, since you have been complaining about their security, what have you been doing to solve it? I don’t see you making an update. Just whining. Thank you SONY, I will be a customer for many, many years to come.

Hope to see you online!
Playstation, Sony and SOE have no excuse for failing to have security measures in place to ensure the privacy of its users. In addition, it took a month for the company to just implement the first phase of the correction of their systems. Other services are still not online and it appears it will not be completed until next month. A very sorry excuse for a corporation. At this point I find myself in agreement with several others in belief that it will be a very long time before I buy another sony product.
Sayonara Sony, it’s been real, and it’s been fun, but it hasn’t been real fun.
Thanks!!
So glad this is almost completely over with… I actually know a few guys who were so stricken by the tragedy, they made a small game in a few hours based on the crash! Awesome awesomeness…
