Play On – PSN Restoration Begins Now

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.

PSN-US-Wave-6

Map updated 12:03m Pacific

Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.

Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^

In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

While it nice that the network is back up, you won’t be thanked by me untill you get the hackers behind this and see to it they get a nice 30 years in prison for it.

  • when is new york going to be on

  • it was *SCHWARZENEGGER* fault he created (SKYNET) it could have been him that planed the attack LOL

  • now what about that welcome back service?? when does that start on?

Im really glad psn is back up and everything but they should have frequently informed us… owell what can we do… HEY those of you who bought a X-BOX have fun paying 40.00 or more dollars a year! I mean we allready have to pay for internet why pay more. Idk… I’ll enjoy ripping holes with kratos in MK.

  • Error 80710102. That’s what I get when I try to log in. I bought my playstation 10 days before all this BS began. Honestly, Sony, you know Xbox wouldn’t have let this happen. I’m positive now that I picked the wrong system. Apparently I’ve got service in my state now (Florida, by the way), but I have some new issue to deal with before I can play your network again (error 80710102, its not my service provider I assure you, they actually work when I need them). A 15 day return policy is the only reason I’m putting up with you guys. I had figured it wouldn’t be more than a week down, I should have just brought this POS back to the store as soon as you guys dropped the ball. Get back to work, you’re not done yet, not even with the things you claim to be done with.

  • @guitar pickxx
Playstation store is still down and won’t be back up for a while.. please read all the info they have posted.
This means any codes or downloads will not work until store is back up..

  • @tellis2112
You may have to log on using a computer to reset you pw on ur account.. again read what they say to do…

  • @guitar_pickXx
Yes as far as I have seen that is the case.. SOE is online now too.

  • I feel your pain niswolf. I bought DCUO the day before this all happened so I’ve been unable to play. I leave for work in a week and it’ll be three weeks before I’m home again. So I’ll have alot of waiting till I can play.

  • ty sony for everything put back psn back on online i been waiting till that day come back u are awsome yay!!!

  • The rebirth of PSN. How long have I waited for it’s return. It’s great that mostly everyone is happy about it finally return. I was a bit surprised that PSN store was down even when PSN was up. I have some stuff I want to get from the store. They must be doing something to it, perhaps giving us some stuff from the store due to the outage as a apology. If it will take a few more days for it to come up, I won’t mind it. Just make sure to keep it safe and secure Sony.

  • Let’s go red sox!!! And thx again SONY

  • xXGuitar_PickXx

if you put a fake e-mail address(which me and my dad used because our real ones didnt work) does that mean you cannot reset your password? it worked for me but my dad never downloaded anything so he had to used validated email comfomation

  • Thank you!

  • xXGuitar_PickXx

but obviously he couldnt because he didn get an email

  • maintenance again after the last maintenance u_U

  • xXGuitar_PickXx … It looks like you & me are in the same boat. I can’t start playing my DC Universe Online either just yet. They were saying a week ago that the whole Playstation service will be fully operational by May 31st. I’m hopeful that the Playstation Store won’t be down for that entire time & will be back up much sooner. But I haven’t seen any information anywhere yet specifically saying when or if that might happen. Nothing to really do other than just “keep-a-waiting,” I suppose.

  • were up and running fine in texas :)

  • well do u have sotore

  • If u used a fake email in ur case then u would have to contact customer support and tell them to send the email to a valid email address that u know

  • We suvived the great PSN outage of 2011!
    We lived History!!

  • If u used a fake email in ur case then u would have to contact customer support and tell them to send the email to a valid email address that u know that’s what I read

  • @ Tellis2112:

Whoa there, cowboy, take it easy. I found this, maybe it will help:

Been troubled lately by that pesky DNS error? Notice that your PS3 can still browse the net, but not log in? Happen to be a Roadrunner customer? Happen to have any other ISP with a crummy DNS server? Well then read on…

The main issue turns out to be a Roadrunner (or any other ISP’s) DNS problem. The fix is simple. When configuring your PS3 network (regardless of wired or wireless), use the manual option. If you use DHCP, leave address resolution at automatic BUT CHANGE THE DNS SERVER ENTRY TO MANUAL.

I replaced the Roadrunner (or any other ISP’s) DNS entries with addresses from the Open DNS project which is a free, secure DNS server that anyone can use. It’s safe, easy, and works.

    The DNS addresses are:

    208.67.222.222 or/and 208.67.220.220

  • yay sign in errors! *sigh*

  • *CONTINUED FROM LAST COMMENT*

Once replaced, you should have no problem logging in.

BTW, you can also use these DNS servers for your entire network if you like by configuring your router. That however is up to you, and won’t be discussed in this particular thread by me since I’m too lazy to make a writeup for every single router out there. However, I do guarantee that this fix will work (or at least get you online with your PS3) for the time being. If it doesn’t work, then please re-read this thread and try again before wasting five minutes of your time telling me that it doesn’t work.

Also, for those that think that this is a PSN issue; consider this: With TW, I could still browse the net with the PS3. I could also use any of my home PC’s without problem. The only time I ever encountered a fault was when trying to log into the PSN network using the TWC supplied DNS addresses. Once I replaced those, the problem went away.

Think about it now. If it was a PSN issue, the OpenDNS addresses woudn’t have worked for me or anyone else here either. But, since it did I think it’s safe to say that the problem lies with your ISP. Don’t forget that alot of ISP’s including Time Warner depend on 3rd party DNS hosts. Just because you have TW (or Comcast, or Cablevision, et al), doesn’t mean the DNS servers are owned and operated by them as well. Perhaps the DNS provider changed something in their routing tables preventing a connection with PSN. There are ALOT of variables at play here…

That alone could be a reason why others have similar issues with different ISP’s. Maybe their ISP uses the same DNS host that Time Warner uses. All you’re doing by replacing the DNS address is simply using a different DNS provider; nothing else.

  • xXGuitar_PickXx

i think my minds in china now… because you just blew my mind…

  • @SouthSide-SINNER,
They were signed in to the blog before the network was shut down, and once the network shut down, the cookies that let them comment were not able to expire in the normal allowed timeframe, which I believe is a week after you log in, so they kept on commenting, which really amounted to a lot of 5 year old equivilant whining.

On my own personal note, who is this Jitender that everyone keeps metioning? I stop looking at the blog long enough to sleep, and I miss some kind of event?

  • xXGuitar_PickXx

    or even in JAPAN!

  • xXGuitar_PickXx

    YEAH

  • Wish that the store was open so i could spend that $20 bucks! :/

  • woohoo for the rebirth now i have to wait for ps store so i can get the next chapter in back to the future and redeem my preorder goodies

  • xXGuitar_PickXx

wait a second… why are some of them light green but some of the states or grayish green?!
    CONSPIRACY?!
    meh probably not…

    or is it?…

  • RE: PlayStation Store:

I know that everyone is eager to have access to the PlayStation Store however, the PlayStation store is NOT AVAILABLE at this time REGION WIDE. Sony only fully restored ONLINE GAMING functionality which includes PS Home and basically everything else BUT the PlayStation Store. Non Sony services such as Netflix has also been restored to regions where PSN service has returned. Sony has mentioned countless times via the multiple official Sony blog posts and I sure Mr. Hirai himself stated that the PlayStation Store will be available “as soon as possible”.

    RE: “Compensation/Reimbursement/Sony’s gratitude”:

Sony has announced the Welcome Back program where the only known details is that all existing PSN users will receive a complementary 30-day’s of PlayStation Plus. Sony also announced that there will also be additional free content available as well however is region specific and has yet to be specified by Sony. Once again, Mr. Hirai also mentioned in his video post that details with regards to this region specific content is planned to be announced within the upcoming days and details will be provided via your region specific PlayStation website and formally at an unspecified date.
