Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!
hey i’m in canada edmonton and when i went online this morning it was fine but now in the afternoon it says its currently going maintenance so what’s going on?
when are we gonna have our free stuff?
So I get the store wont be on for some time, but my story goes I bought a game online took several hours for the sale to go through, tried to download and it never did, tried to log in for the next few days when I found out the the network was hacked and a few days later found out about the credit cards, cancelled mine and got a new one. my question is this game I bought and paid for almost a month ago still be waiting for me when the network comes back on? or am i screwed?

I think what we see here is Sony controlling the load on the servers as they work to get it fully online. Since there are so many people that have don’t want to wait anymore (understandable) They have a huge amount of people trying to get on.
To make sure they don’t bring down the whole system Sony opens the gates and lets more users on. Then when it reaches a certain level they close the doors again. As they gain more confidence of the capacity they open the doors. All the while leaving those already on, on.
Sony I would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to get this back online. Working in Information Technology myself I understand only a little of how hard this must have been on the IT staff. I am grateful that it was not me who had to work those long hours and I am grateful for their work.
Also, I bought socom 4 the day it came out, and have not even been able to play it online. Everyone add me if you play blackops or socom 4
I have a question. I bought 2 playstation network card that was worth $70, a day before the PSN went down. So I have been waiting for awhile to redeem it as soon as the PSN store comes back on. Will the codes be redeemed and go into my PSN wallet, or will they be no use due the the resets and hackings? I really hope they would work, since they were worth $70.
Shame about all those people who decided XBL with its overagressive ToS is somehow better than the PSN. To them, I say: Enjoy paying twice for DLC!
On the flipside, great to see PSN logins work again, can’t wait for the Store to be brought back online! Take your time with it, we don’t want a repeat of this whole mess to happen now do we?

Thanks for bring everything back online Sony. I hope you guys continue to update us on when the Store will be back online. I purchased allot of games during the outage that I want to redeem codes and activate online passes for!

It’s all good. I’m not a really hard core gamer, but it was hard not being able to play those games online. Although not having a distraction helped me with finals. With that said, let’s not have it happen again please?

@boghawk I don’t know how old you are but it was already said that this wasn’t just some little outage this was very serious. When we put our trust in something we love like Sony we want to feel safe when we give all of our personal and credit card information out. Now everyones information is floating out there for people to steal. So people leaving is to be expected so don’t badmouth the people that left because we were all let down bad. I on the other hand, I’m staying because I’m hoping they can make it up to all of us.
The PSN Store is still under maintenance. I guess after everything Sony had gone through, it’s gonna take some time to bring back the PSN Store…

wOOt wOOT! Just logged in to PSN from my PS3. See my friends list and syncing my trophies now. Feels good to be back online. As I posted earlier. I reset my password via us.playstation.com, so you might try that if you aren’t getting prompted to reset your password via the PS3. Best of luck everyone and see you online!! I went online and after few hours I were log out again what’s happened…. wow it’s online again it’s just happened in the minute now yes but why they put it offline for a while ??

Thanks Sony! Glad to see things going back to normal. Still can’t access my Steam ID on Portal 2 though, and my friend can’t change his password this afternoon. Gets an error message (same one I get when I try to access Account management. I’m guessing thats from the servers being hammered with password change requests.

I wonder how many people are really mad because they traded in their ps3 for an xbox360 just when the psn came back on… Lol
