Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!
Sony got hacked again. it’ll be down for antoher month but thank you for beta testing our newest security. Well get back to you in 30 days….. lol thats probably their next update

Well, at least the PSN was on for a night. I got the “Playstation Network is currently undergoing maintenance” message when trying to sign in today.

If having the Network go on and off makes getting the store back faster than I’m all for it. I just want my store.
What is going on? I was just playing Black Opps for about an hour and I logged off to look at my settings then I logged back on and it said the network was still under maintenence :(

Yep its back up at least in the DC area. I’ve been a big Playstation fan since Resident Evil 2 came out when I was younger and my best friend and I played the game in his basement at midnight with the lights off (big mistake haha). I’ve seen the posts since all this crap happened and Sony definitely took a licking. Hopefully, Sony will learn from this mistake by adding better security, having a PR team that actually communicates to its consumers and not give run around answers, and try to be a step ahead of any future potential attacks. You cant beat every hacker but at least make it harder for he/she to attack and successfully infiltrate the network. I’ll still be here gaming with you, Sony, but you still need some work

While I am not jumping ship over this outage, I can’t imagine that Sony is going to recover from this in any meaningful way. A month ago I felt there was a good chance that the PS3 could pull ahead in the next two years. Now, I think the PS3 will only hold it’s own if Sony takes extraordinary and costly measures to try and repair the damage done to it’s reputation and image. A lesser company would die because of this…
Anyway…I am glad to see things up and progress being made. I hope Sony can get past all this and as a lifetime Sony console owner I have not given up hope, but at this point…all I have is hope.
More importantly my greatest thanks go to all the IT professionals that must have spent thousands of man hours working this issue. As an IT professional myself, I have felt the 3+ day, no sleep problem. God (and the IT folks at Sony) only knows how 22+ days of high pressure system failure to restoration could feel. You all deserve a much earned vacation!

stupid sony it was on a hour ago now i cant get on it says playstation network is currently undergoing matenence
im online on socom and have been it did log me out temporally but im not to shocked i imagine the network will be off and on and spotty for a little while till everything is fully restored i dont think hackers like some people have said are messing with it agin, i think sony is just making sure everything is running fun and the servers are prob gonna be off and on till the 31st this month when they said everything would be fully restored so just calm down people god lol.

technology isn’t perfect my peeps, if you think it is, go get checked. technology is constantly being updated, and its bound to run into issues at one point or another.
Think of it this way, it’s sony’s way of saying “take a few minutes to stretch your legs, while we add more functionality back”.
I say, let them take all the time they need to sort things right. As much as I love gaming, I understand that life doesn’t revolve around the controller in my hand. I could use a little sun quite frankly, I don’t get enough of it.
Get the store back up! I could care less about the Welcome Back Program, I just want Back to the Future Episode 3 which I have already paid for.

FYI – I’m in California and just found out from my bank somebody in Russia is trying to use my credit card. I called Sony and the guy asked me if was possible they got the info from somewhere else? No the card in question was only listed with PlayStation…. He said they are going to be offering free games in the next couple of days for the inconvenience, well I’m 37 year old guy that got the unit for the Blu-ray on my boat. I don’t play games and would like to know what Sony is going to do for the old guys?
