Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!
They seem to be fixing the store…. Before when trying to access it, it threw up an error and now it says ‘the service is undergoing maintenance.’

Sony has already announced that they intend to “compensate” existing PSN users. At least for the basic PSN service Sony provides the service “AS IS” as stated in the EULA. This is one of the reasons behind the fact the the PS Store is not yet available as the details are still being worked out (whether it be technical or content related). Sony also announced earlier “the Welcome Back” program where more details with regards to the region specific content is still TBA.
Also, please stop acting like you represent all the users of PSN. I can say for myself that I don’t share your view that we are necessarily “entitled” to free content. Personally, I am more then happy that PSN is back up (even if it is only for online play – for the moment) and that Sony took the time needed to fix the problem. Sony will eventually restore full PSN service it just takes time to get things done right. Hail to Sony for spending the time needed to fix the problem even at the expense for additional downtime. As a future IT professional I definitely understand the overall process involved especially for the scale this service is.

My friend was knocked off line but she got back on in like 2 minutes.
For those TWEEKING OUT about their credit card info on the PSN. All you have to do is go to the store and buy the little $20 or $50 pre-paid PSN Network cards and don’t even worry about using your credit card over PSN. I’m just trying to help those who are SO PARANOID about using the PSN now. IT’S O.K.!

It said it was undergoing maintenace, but now its back online. Maybe we’ll have rolling black outs as they restore the PSN in Europe

logged on to my PS3, no problems so far. could be heavy traffic who knows.
I understand that it takes time to redo everything but do they honestly think a few free games and such make up for the past 3 weeks? look at how long it took them to tell us about the breach, in the time it took them ….we could have lost everything. I Luv PS3 and would never stray but i think they should offer just a little more . just my opinion .

I changed the password on my account and played for a few hours with no problems, then my brother tried to get on to change his password and it keeps saying an error occurred. I went back to my account and tried to sign in again, now it’s saying it’s undergoing maintenance again, what do i do?

CALM DOWN EVERYONE, I’m sure they are trying as hard as they can to keep it from overloading so don’t get so mad at it being down for like 2 minutes…. :P
I love how almost everyone here basically freaked. Based of common sense, theres no way that the brand spankin new firmware could be hacked in one day. It takes quite a bit to encrypt, so keep chill. We are fine.
Like some above said, its possible that sony is most likely adding more features back in. I suspect this may happen more then once, wouldn’t surprise me honestly.
So, in the mean while, go smoke a quick cancer stick, breath some fresh air while sony is working. It’ll be back, so chill peeps.
I think it’s cause of the store. I’m able to log in, but I can’t get into the store. Earlier this morning it says the store was under going maintenance and now it’s giving an error code so I’m assuming their working on the store.
I enjoy gaming, especially online gaming, but here are a few things some of you people need to do/remember
1. Get a life, life exists without video games, form human relationships with people face to face.
2. You probably think you are computer savvy because you can play games and browse the internet and maybe do a little web page programming. GET REAL. These systems are huge and have millions of lines of code supporting the back ends and software development is not cheap and takes time if you want it done right. Give Sony the proper time to fix things.
3. Stop being such cheapskates ! You are getting an online gaming environment for FREE !!!!! Is the Xbox free ? Is world or warcraft or any ither big MMO free ? NO ! Stop thinking you deserve free stuff because they get hacked and boo-hoo you can’t play online. What the heck did you guys do before online gaming ?!?
In short, show some decency and respect and thinking you deserve free goodies because you couldn’t play online for free. Sony, please make you next console pay to play online so these cheapskates can find some free online games and leave us alone.
