Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

Congrats on getting the network back up, heres hoping you get the store back up soon. I look forward to your press conference at E3 this year.
of course…. the day i buy a USD 20.00 PSN store card it gets hacked….. REAL GOOD SECURITY SONY. THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN OVER AT MICROSOFT!!!
everything else works but, not the pns store in New Jersey :-(
PSN IS SOOOOOOO GOOD! SO GLAD TO BE BACK!
Glad to still be in Sony’s side. You guys did a great job bringing back the online.
Can’t wait to see the Welcome Back Package and to see the great community and Sony get back
on their feet!
Get over it Nick. I’m pretty sure Sony didn’t want to get hacked just to piss you off. lmao
Yay it’s back up. ADD ME!!!
Thanx Sony i wuz worry i would never play PSN no more man great job n again thanx yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa sonnnnnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyyyyy…….jejejejejejejejejejeje.
I say let the eggsboggers have there pride. I mean it must make them feel special. I know that if I had one I would go brag about how my 3 exclusives are awesome and how it just makes sense to pay over 100 bucks a year. On top of a 200 or 300 dollar Blu-ray player. I would feel like I’m getting a good deal when I buy L.A Noire and get 3 disks instead of one. Yes how wonderful it must be for the X-Box.
people dont know how to count lol
Wait, so different users have to buy Live separately, thqt kinda dumb.
All I can say is “finally”. I understand that this was not Sony’s fault and I understand that these kind of things take time. But Jesus H. Christ, Next time, Give us a viable time frame. With that being said, I am glad Sony is back up and running.
Yay.. finally logged in, THX A LOT SONY im just waiting for my ps store to come back

hmmm this is very gooooood
NO PS STORE :( YET?!
sorry didn’t mean to double post
If you’re tired of waiting for the email, try logging in again. It should prompt you to change passwords. I did the email thing and became impatient, so I tried logging back in with my old password, and then it prompted me to change it. It shouldn’t matter if you created the account on that system or not. I transferred my account from my old system over a year ago, and it still prompted me to change passwords on my second attempt at logging in.
hmmm this is very gooooood
no psn store up yet.
why cant I add my money from my psn card I changed my pass and weres the store
2249 the store is still down :(
Thank you sony! Now I’m going to play some black ops.
Despite all the negativity that has been said. Thanks Playstation. I have been a sony customer for the longest time, back to psone days. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I have so many fond memories that are connected to that grey controller. I remember when XBOX 360 first came out, it had a year jump on PS3. I faithfully played my PS2 until Nov 2006 where I camped out infront of Best Buy to get my PS3. The whole time I camped out I was surrounded by people who were planning on selling theirs and was the pariah for being the only one who planned to take it straight home and welcome it as part of my home. The thousand dollars people were getting was not worth not having it. The first day of just playing Resistance was worth it.
For me, Gaming has always been a part of life. It has helped me connect with others around the world and it has always been the one thing in life that can make me feel better when I’m down. Maybe Sony should have done a better job on security, maybe they had adequate security. I dunno. I do know that this was not done maliciously by them to me! I do know that they were a victim of an attack. Despite all this GEO HOT stuff, I believe Sony was right to attempt to protect their intellectual property. Do not forget that your rights end where theirs begin. I think we should take a moment to think of all the developers and those involved in bringing us these amazing games. They truly are amazing and these individuals deserve to be compensated. I played Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Warhawk for hours and hours on end. I played Warhawk again today and loved it and plan on getting Starhawk day one! They deserve my $60 and I am happy to pay it.
My point is that Sony is not the enemy. Sony and us are the gaming industry, not these hackers. I am thankful that they have spent the time that they feel is necessary to make this right. Let’s all move past this and get back to kicking some virtual ass!
thank u Sony, with Sony all is possible.

PSN also caters to more users. The servers could be more stressed. But, ever since PSN came back, ive only had 1 connection lost. Host migrations have to do with a user(the host) leaving the match.
Actually Xbox live caters to about 15 million more users than PSN, but keep making stuff up if it make you feel better.
LOL i just read someone’s status on FB via Status Shuffle and it read: “Bin Laden is dead. Amazing what Americans can do when the PSN down!”.
So, everyone was moaning and moaning because it was down for so long. It was barely down for a month and apparently some people’s lives were ruined by this. Says a lot about them and what they have going for them in their lives. Or rather what they DON’T have going for them. No PS3 for a little while and they flip out…
And now that its back, these same people are now moaning and moaning still, this time asking for their free stuff.
*Sigh*
In all seriousness though, its great to finally see the PSN up and running again. I’ve been playing some games offline to pass the time and laying low so that I didn’t get impatient waiting for the services to be restored. When you think about it, it really wasn’t down for that long and its not as though Sony was sitting on their hands watching us all squirm. They were working their butts off to get the PSN back up, as well as improving its security and working with authorities to conduct an investigation to find out who did this, how, and why. I was behind them all the way. They did what they did because they had to. Everyone relax, services are being restored, everything will be back to normal before we know it and we’ll soon forget about this whole incident.
PSN is working great! Thanks Sony! : )
IS ANYONE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM
I JUST GOT A NEW PASS AND SIGNED IN 30 MIN AGO BUT THEN
I TRY AND SIGN IN NOW ON MY PSP AND IT SAYS A DNAS ERROR HAS OCCURED OPERATION TIMED OUT
SOME ONE HELP QUICK!
do we get 2 game downloads no matter how expensive we want or are there price restrictions?
and, is the map light green for places that haven’t got the PlayStation store back up yet?
yes ive tried that but when i hit ok to go and change password it says error? any advice?
Awesome… you know what, I love all my consoles.
I am pleased to hear that PSN is back online. It is unfortunate that this circumstance came up however, all things considered I am pleased with how Sony handled the situation. Besides this outage did provide me with the opportunity to finally beat three of my single player games. I also thank everyone involved (particularly on the PS Blog) for keeping me and everyone else updated on what was going on throughout this whole process. I only hope that those responsible for “instigating the fire” will be brought to justice in the near future.
Once again I thank all of those from Sony from keeping the community updated throughout this whole ordeal.
@2256
Nah……. but you can dream can’t you

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was excited to announce that Xbox LIVE has 30 million users at this year’s CES. The number of users is up by five million since November, 2010. Not to be outdone by its main competitor, Sony was quick to whip out the ruler during its own keynote presentation, boasting 60 million PlayStation Network users.
