Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

Everyone knows CoD runs better on Live. Activision favors Xbox. You need to see the service as a whole.

Good job Sony! Me and alot of other PS3 gamers never gave up on you! During the outage, I got the chance to experience life the way I was supposed to (without gaming). My grades improved ALOT, I ACTUALLY got some exercise in, and a few more other things in my personal life. Even with the PSN online, I am going to continue to attempt to improve my life. All thanks to the outage. Some of you gotta say the outage wasnt a HORRIBLE thing. Some of us improved our lives w/o gaming.
And im still waiting to order my, “I survived the PSN outage of 2011” t-shirt ;)

u know what makes ps3 better because one this is there first mess up besides the ylod thats just unlucky is that look at how many issues the xbox has ya they have 1 or 2 good games that ps3 needs but look at the games on ps3 u guys dont have uncharted, little big planet, resistance,motorstorm, and also not to mention blue ray great graphics hell ive had my ps3 since launch day and no problems and ive never have it freeze on me ever! so that proves ylod is just of matter of unluck but rlod on xbox ive had it on every system ive bought so coincidence i think not PS3 vs XBOX 360 = PS3 better graphics better structure freee online play and reliable vs XBOX 360 good gameplay a thing called kinect that is nonresponsive and laggy the reason why we like controllers cause its the old fasihon and thats what made gaming not a thing that makes u jump around like a idiot

First off thank you sony for getting us back online. it was a grueling job i know but u did it in less than a month . Now to all the haters and the trolls out there . How many of us do u see in the xbox forums trolling ? Hardly any right? Wanna know why? Cuz we don’t give a crap . I sat here during the past month watching all you guys troll and hate on psn when you have to sign in and have an account here just to post. I’m happy sony is how it is . Yes they should’ve had better security but at least WE GET OUR SERVICES FOR FREE!!!!!! Once again thank you sony from the bottom of our hearts for getting us back online.
Now just the PSN store, PSN welcome back package and PSN security being fully buffed and i would call that a day. I just hope PSN store comes on so i can get the DLC’s i have been missing. :O

Finally! It’s been killing me not being able to log on and comment on the whiners on here, but more importantly, being unable to play online games. At least it’s back now! I was trying to stay up as long as I could last night, to find out when BC would get PSN back, but to my surprise and utter joy, I checked it this morning and all of North America was green. Does anyone know about what time Canada started going online?

It’s back up, no one wants to hear your sob story, so give it a rest. You choose which company to affiliate yourself with. You don’t have to post crap on here about why you won’t thank Sony, the fact that you bought a 360, that they didn’t have an accurate timeline, etc. Maybe you should try and coordinate the rebuilding of a network and at the same time try to deal with people whining because they can’t use some of the product’s features.

Thanks for everything you have provided us with, Sony. As far as i am concerned you have done a good job keeping us updated, and letting us know when things were going to be back up. So for all of that i thank you. Also i hope you can work on repairing the store as well for i cannot play my new DC Universe game because i have to activate the code in the playstation store, but besides that Sony.. keep up the good work.

Family Pack = $100 a year. That give you up to 4 Xbox live accounts. Its worth it. You don’t know the facts so you obviously haven’t tried it. Don’t be ignorant. Know the facts before you open your mouth.

PSN also caters to more users. The servers could be more stressed. But, ever since PSN came back, ive only had 1 connection lost. Host migrations have to do with a user(the host) leaving the match.
Not once during the PSN outage did I even think of trading is/selling for cash or 360. I’ve owned a PS 1, 2, and 3 and sure maybe that makes me a ‘fan boy’ or WhateverTF you want to classify that as. Playstation has been dependable for me (except for 2 of the bulky PS2’s that decided they want out), the slimline never once had a problem with. Back to my point, I will never buy an Xbox 360 or whatever is next in line with them.
I’m a satisfied customer. We were well informed despite the situation and we had a lot of competent peoples working to bring it back; all of that orchestred by Hirai. Thumbs up, I’ve couldn’t have done better tho I know a lot about computers and networks.
I’m and will always be a Sony/Playstation fan whatever happens. It’s in the rough time that you gotta stick together.

ok people the only thing that is free on psn is the online play if u want the perks like new demos etc u still have to get playstation plus which costs as much as a year of online service on x box live

i still waiting for ps store
For a long time I didn’t play my PS3 due to getting a good job and wanting to get to bed ontime. But then as things had settled I finally pulled out the controller and wanted to play again. Figures PSN was down. After a couple weeks of frustration it came back, but those two weeks of completing a couple of campaign mode games, PSN came back up. This time I can’t take it for granted.
Just hope now the system is more robust and Sony takes advantage of the fact they have two servers to switch back and forth from and to. This way they can upgrade and test Apache, Security Software and new Hardware, with minimal interruptions. I wouldn’t mind waiting a day or two to prevent waiting a few weeks.
