Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

First time I could log on since the outage. Want to say I’m very happy to be back online. I understand that Sony isn’t at fault for the hackers, (to some degree), but I just want to say I think the way you handled everything was horrible. Just my 2 cents.

If you own both systems and like the Playstation better, fine. But don’t be a blind follower like I was for 15 years. Xbox live is much better in my opinion. As far as $60 a year being a waste of money, I’ll give you a waste of money, try owning 2 PS3s as I do (Me and my fiance like to play online together) and having them sit idle. I’m not a Sony hater, I cant be. Ive been to loyal for to long. I’ve never even owned an XBox until a couple of weeks ago. If you don’t play online stick with your PS3. If you want a better online experience like party chat, (no more muting annoying players while playing with your friends) make the painful switch to XBox and add me (JediMyfly79). Another cool feature, I didn’t have to buy a second Xbox for my fiance to play online online with me. Unlike the PS3, when you play COD split screen on the XBox, the second player can sign onto their account also. This means she can rank up also and not lose all of her progress when I sign out. Very cool feature for my situation.
I still think Xbox live is better, i own both systems, so you can’t call me a fanboy

glad the playstation network is finally back up and could not make any comments due to the outage so this comment is for patrick seybold……i had a 30 day free trial for mlb.tv and could not use it due to the outage on the network so i lost the remaining time on my trial is there anyway u guys could get me and others that enjoy watching babseball another 30 day free trial due to the network outage? i really don’t care about any other free stuff other than the MLB.TV situation………And thank you for all you have done through the years.

Great job, Sony! I am personally very happy that you made damn sure it was safe before letting us back online. Sure, the outage was annoying, but I’d rather there were a long outage than a sporadic one. Thanks for keeping us safe. Thanks for responding to the security breach as thoroughly as you did. Of course the good news doesn’t last long. Home is under hacker attack. I can’t stay on more than a minute before it has a dropped connection like several weeks ago when PSN was under attack. Last night was good. Now the bad guys are out and Sony hasn’t increased server capacity to handle it. :(
