Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

I installed the update, but now my PS3 won’t boot. Sony has, for some reason, refused to take calls at their tech support call center today. The following is the email I sent to Sony, for information. Has anyone else had this problem:
I downloaded the mandatory firmware update this morning, but now my system will not turn on.
Background: throughout the network outage I have been using the system for single-player games, without a problem. Today I turned the system on and accepted the update. The update installed, and the system powered down – as usual with software updates.
Instead of turning back on, though, the light on the front just started flashing red. It flashed red, on and off, for 30 minutes. At this point I pressed the power button. The light momentarily went green, the system beeped, and the light went back to flashing red.
As I said, everything about the system was working fine prior to the update. What’s going on?

MY PSN CONNECTION KEEPS TIMING OUT WHEN I ATTEMPT TO LOGIN TO THE PLAYSTATION NETWORK. I LIVE IN NY AND ACCORDING TO THE MAP LAST NIGHT I SHOULD HAVE HAD SERVICE BUT DID NOT. HOWEVER MY COUSIN WHO ALSO LIVES IN NY DID HAVE SERVICE AND WAS ABLE TO ENJOY BLACK OPS ALL NIGHT LONG. I DID THE 3.61 UPDATE AND REBOOTED MY SYSTEM EXPECTING TO BE ABLE TO GET ONLINE. AFTER CHANGING MY PASSWORD I ATTEMPTED TO LOGIN AND IT DISPLAYED SIGNING IN FOR QUITE SOME TME BEFORE FINALLY SAYING THAT THE CONNECTION THE THE PALAYSTATION NETWORK HAS TIMED OUT. i HAVE TRIED REASEARCHING ONLINE AND GOOGLED IT AS WELL BUT CANNOT SEEM TO FIND WHY IT IS NOT WORKING. I REBOOTED MY ROUTER AS WELL WITH NO SUCCESS. i THEN DECIDED THAT i WOULD TRY AND RESTORE MY PS3 TO ITS DEFAULT SETTINGS AND TRY AGAIN. THIS DID NOT FIX MY PROBLEM EITHER. I READ ONLINE THAT DISABLING THE MEDIA SERVER CAN SOMETIMES FIX THIS PROBLEM SO I EVEN GAVE THAT A SHOT WITH NO LUCK…I AM ABLE TO LOGIN TO PSN ON MY PC…I JUST DONT GET IT. MY PS3 IS HOOKED UP VIA A WIRED CONNECTION AND I DO HAVE THE INTERNET…ANY SUGGESTIONS ????

I doubted Sony through the whole thing, I still do. You have MUCH work to do Sony, not only with PSN but all of your crappy ass electronics, and if it wasn't for Little Big Planet, I'd be on the xbox 360.

sony congrats on getting the system up and running in the time span you did..what would have taken months to complete you did it in a shorter amount of time..to all psn gamers on here we all managed to get through this now we can feast in the waiting and enjoy copious amounts of online gaming..again thank you sony and to all the sony gamers we did it!!!!
Thanks Sony for turning back on the PSN and restoring the service.But next time when there is a PSN outage don’t wait 2-5 to tell us the customers about the outage.
