Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

Anyone know if it’s okay to use online passes for game yet, or do we have to wait for the store to be back up. I’ve not activated my MK online pass yet, but don’t want to waste it if it will not work without full psn operability.

MY PSN CONNECTION KEEPS TIMING OUT WHEN I ATTEMPT TO LOGIN TO THE PLAYSTATION NETWORK. I LIVE IN NY AND ACCORDING TO THE MAP LAST NIGHT I SHOULD HAVE HAD SERVICE BUT DID NOT. HOWEVER MY COUSIN WHO ALSO LIVES IN NY DID HAVE SERVICE AND WAS ABLE TO ENJOY BLACK OPS ALL NIGHT LONG. I DID THE 3.61 UPDATE AND REBOOTED MY SYSTEM EXPECTING TO BE ABLE TO GET ONLINE. AFTER CHANGING MY PASSWORD I ATTEMPTED TO LOGIN AND IT DISPLAYED SIGNING IN FOR QUITE SOME TME BEFORE FINALLY SAYING THAT THE CONNECTION THE THE PALAYSTATION NETWORK HAS TIMED OUT. i HAVE TRIED REASEARCHING ONLINE AND GOOGLED IT AS WELL BUT CANNOT SEEM TO FIND WHY IT IS NOT WORKING. I REBOOTED MY ROUTER AS WELL WITH NO SUCCESS. i THEN DECIDED THAT i WOULD TRY AND RESTORE MY PS3 TO ITS DEFAULT SETTINGS AND TRY AGAIN. THIS DID NOT FIX MY PROBLEM EITHER. I READ ONLINE THAT DISABLING THE MEDIA SERVER CAN SOMETIMES FIX THIS PROBLEM SO I EVEN GAVE THAT A SHOT WITH NO LUCK…I AM ABLE TO LOGIN TO PSN ON MY PC…I JUST DONT GET IT. MY PS3 IS HOOKED UP VIA A WIRED CONNECTION AND I DO HAVE THE INTERNET…ANY SUGGESTIONS ????
I had the same problem as you TimoStil while playing I was also kick off and a message appear saying that someone had sign in with my account ID I am trying to get support from PS3 but phone line are full

Finally, I can leave a comment. I was back online yesterday when the servers came back up in NJ. Thanks for getting things back up and running. Its a damn shame that so few try to ruin everything for so many. During the downtime, I had a chance to beat Dungeon Hunter: Alliance and Hard Corps Uprising. Still had good times with my PS3 and thats without PSN. PSN is a great service and I think this outage made some realize how lucky they are to have the innovations of this day and age. I’ve been playing games since 1983 and I’m used to single player games (and at times, I prefer it depending on the genre). But I also appreciate the functionality of PSN, being able to talk to friends, go on Home and purchase games for the Playstation Store. I don’t blame Sony because anyone can be hacked. Microsoft and Nintendo are just as vulnerable as Sony so don’t fool yourselves. PSN is a Phoenix that has risen from the ashes and I know that this will only make Sony stronger as a result. Thank you for not giving up on your customers.

@KrisKrower we’re not seriously still on that Youtube IP address thing are we? Many people have already stated that it was only so they could attempt to prove most people that accessed or would be interested in or would potentially download Geohot’s hack were in California so that they could have the lawsuit there. Nothing else was done with the IP addresses and people need to get over that. They didn’t have the KGB banging down your doors or send you a virus or anything. It was just to show they had a reason to sue Geohot in California (which I feel he deserved. Hacking is no big deal, sharing crippling information like the PS3 rootkey to pirates however is a big deal.) I do think we need to get OtherOS back. But not everything is some conspiracy theory.

Could someone tell me how come someone is still trying to use my PSN ID when I have down my update and changed my password?. I was playing online and during the game, I got logged out and got a message telling me that someone else was using my account. So I went back and changed my password again. Was the update and all the changes suppose to be safer for us ? If so, how come someone is still trying to use my PSD ID and all I was asked to do was done. This is very strange and sucks.
Anyone have any idea how long its gonna be til the PSN store is up and runnin?

The game freezes when i start it, only when im connected to psn. If I log out, it works fine…

I can honestly say that since play station network has been down, i have been more active with my friends and family more than i have been before. I just hope i stay that way now that its back online.
