Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

yea my guess is that the welcome back packege wont be available until playstation store is back up. because theres no point in using ps plus or whatever we get unless we can actuallt access the store..

I have both systems worth having (Xbox 360 and PS3). I love them both but, to be honest, xboxlive is a better online gaming service then PSN. I am very happy that PSN is back up though as I love to play LBP2 and uncharted 2 online.

Cant play online until store is up lol. Glad its back but yeah cant redeem online pass codes for anything sooo Ill simply leave ps3 online so it feels connected again.
i havent been able to comment this whole time. now that i can i just want to say thx psn. less than a month of down time didnt hurt as bad as paying a couple hundred to play on xbox over the last several yrs. keep up the good work.

I wanted to mention that, even though this is the US blog, it serves as a North American outlet. I’ve worked with a lot of corporations that aren’t used to the contrary cross border details about the neighbour to the north, so I thought I’d pop in for a few quick suggestions.
First, while it’s common for a company to focus only on an American presence, these services tend to also extend into Canada. For instance, Canadians purchase PS3s, play on the PSN, and were affected by the outage as well. In that sense, we see that you included the country in the map, but did not list the names of provinces or make reference to their potential roll out times. This brings me to my first suggestion. (1) Canada does not have states, instead, our divisional political entities are known as provinces. They are highlighted in the above map, suggesting that at some point they would be turned on in the same way as the American states. Continued below…

Furthermore, (2) the provinces are named, from East to West, Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. For completion’s sake, there are also 3 northern territories known as Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Yukon, though it is understandable not to include them on the map.
I know how easy it is to forget and gloss over aspects of a nation that is not your main market. I hope this has been useful to Sony leadership in recognizing the big country up north :) Play on, eh!
I think you guys did a hell of a job though this whole mess, I was on here all night watching it be restored. I hope you guys are doing one of two things, either finally getting some sleep, or playing PS3. Either way, awesome job.
You’ve gotta feel bad for Kaz though, I mean in his first month on the job, they’re recovering from one of the biggest earthquakes on record, and they suffer 2 major attacks on the system. And though all that, he’s still the man. Only one man is awesome enough to sign Kevin Butler’s paychecks after all. He gets Kudos in particular.
