Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

Thanks for all the hard work Sony. Too bad I STILL can’t play Mortal Kombat online (need the store functionality in order to redeem the Kombat Pass). Oh well, patience is a virtue I guess.

Personally I would like to say THANK YOU … I am glad in the long run that you guys did not rush the system back up and leave us vulnerable for other attacks and what not .. In the long it was well worth it , I already notice that when I went to “find a game” It was TEN times faster getting into a game … To a job well done albeit it took a little longer then we would all have liked … Thank you !!!

Well I hope no one gets stung by Sony’s poor security performance. Maybe Sony has learned a valuable lesson: When a security vulnerability is known to those that would exploit it, and a patch is available, apply the dang patch! Even the computer novices know this.
That said, I’m glad to be back online.
i am now going to buy motorstorm apocolpsy sice i know now that psn is back up and i can trust it. oh and i heard that game is beastly!!!!

does anyone else have an idea on how to fix this?
I live in Tennessee and I’ve downloaded the update and when I hit sign in it made me change my password. So i did. Then I tried to sign in and it just will not sign in. It keeps saying ” signing in please wait” “if it is taking a long time to sign in, check your network connection.” I was patient and waited about 30 minutes and it still isn’t finished. So i turned off the ps3 and tried again, sane thing happens” So i did a internet test (under network settings) and it found said everything was available until it got to PSN then it said FAILED.
Any ideas on what to do??????

I have unplugged everything and let it wait for several minutes and then plug in the ps3 and router and it still doesn’t work

HawnKeez needs to get a life it was not sony’s fault that this happened they did an excellent job keeping us updated so what if they took a long time

Sony, I never wavered in my support for you and the ps3. You guys are awesome for getting the PSN back up as fast as you did considering you had to rebuild it from the bottom up. I seriously love you guys and appreciate everything you have done for us. Now I will go play the best FPS ever created to date. Battlefield: Bad Company 2!!!
