Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!
I don’t think you need to keep apologizing to everyone. You guys were the ones attacked in the first place. Then the media and some people out looking for a quick buck turned around and made your company look like the bad guys. As far as I’m concerned, you have the best system, user interface and a free network, what else could anyone ask for? So I’m happy you were able to get your network back up and running. Maybe now you guys can get some sleep.
I don’t understand why people threaten to buy Xbox, seriously? Psn is so much better hell even previously Xbox’s system was hack and it was down for a long time as well.
Also PS+ you get better benefits, the benefits of Xbox live you get to play online you get to use netflix and you get the COD maps first that basically it.
Don’t get a lot of cool promos like PS+ does, free games nope, discounted games nope or hardly have to pay for a service that should be free YUP
I have an Xbox, I have a PS3 I have worked for Sony Canada I have worked for Xbox support, Xbox has more issues, hell Xbox’s system was crashed when MW2 was release, also when the first map pack for MW2 was release the system went down for another 2 days or so.
Anyways PlayStation glad your back, now where is the xross game voice chat :P

I’m all glad and dandy that PSN is up as well but my thanks only goes to the people who had to work long nights to get things back up and running. As for the big Exec’s, its about frickin time!!! I mean as someone who refused to buy an Xbox to be Loyal to Sony this was a big let down. I mean its not like Im gonna switch cause I still think PS is better but in the future PlayStation will not be the only system in my house.
So what is PlayStation going to do to make this right for customers… And when???

I live in Tennessee and I’ve downloaded the update and when I hit sign in it made me change my password. So i did. Then I tried to sign in and it just will not sign in. It keeps saying ” signing in please wait” “if it is taking a long time to sign in, check your network connection.” I was patient and waited about 30 minutes and it still isn’t finished. So i turned off the ps3 and tried again, sane thing happens” So i did a internet test (under network settings) and it found said everything was available until it got to PSN then it said FAILED.
Any ideas on what to do??????

Place a fraud alert on your credit – it’s automated, you should definately do it since the breach: Fraud alerts can help prevent an identity thief from opening any more accounts in your name. You realize xbox is no safer, accounts get hacked there regularly one of their execs accounts was hacked not to long ago.
Anyway, glad PS3 is back online…let’s salvage what shold have been the PS3’s banner year. So many great exclusives coming vs 1 on the crapbox…hahahaha. hope that’s considered being a jerk ;)

Thanks Sony it is great to have the network back up and running. It took long but hopefully it is more secure than before and this won’t happen again. Im looking forward to playing with my friends online again and especially on SOCOM4 and Brink that I just got.

I have a Sub-Account that has an e-mail address that I no longer have, it says I can change password either on my xmb or online thru account management, However the manage sub-account function doesn’t appear. Is this going to be phased in at a later time/date?

Funny story: Went into Gamestop the other day to trade up to a XBOX360, they aren’t taking anymore cause even Gamestop lost faith in Sony. Haha.
