Play On – PSN Restoration Begins Now

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.

PSN-US-Wave-6

Map updated 12:03m Pacific

Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.

Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^

In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

  • FINALLY! Let’s hope it’ll never happen again.

Good job Sony!…Happy to be back online gaming…I don’t mind that the store is down…

  • DON’T BUY ANYTHING ON PSN!!! This whole incident was completely avoidable. Almost a month of downtime is inexcusable. Not only was Sony’s security infrastructure incredibly shoddy, but their recovery plan was non-existent – they had to rebuild everything from scratch. There’s no excuse for such poor planning that puts our personal info at risk. Their messaging strategy was simply terrible, no updates for days at a time. And there are indications they still haven’t learned their lesson. See http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/13/idUSN0926046420110513

It’s time to show Sony this is no way to treat their customers. Don’t buy anything from PSN for the next 30 days. They won’t even blink at the downtime if we buy it all back right away. Send a message that incompetence will not be tolerated.

    Sony, you are on notice.

  • Welcome back PSN, it´s been a long withdrawl and i´m looking forward to some action today ( after work :-( )

Thankfully I also have Xbox, but there is no comparison Playstation win´s every time .

  • Anyone else still getting error code80710092

  • tnx Sony! time to shoot someone’s face hehehe

  • i don’t know if this matters but, how come the map has different shades of green? what does it mean? Nonetheless i’m so thankful psn is back in america and hope that people in other regions of the world have their psn working as soon as possible!

  • I was forced to update my PS3 to 3.61 as soon as it was done i shut it down as i was leaving for a while. I come back with a movie and put it in now it will not boot disk stuck inside. Green light then 3 beeps and red flashing. Disk will not come out. Thanks SONY. Called support they say send it in for repair $120 please or $99 for a refurbished slim. What? Sounds like they want all Fat PS3 back and are doing anything to do so. Including bricking random systems after updates. I just rented the movie and I have to send my system back in to them to get the disk out, but no guarantee that i get the disk back. WHO THE HE** IS GOING TO PAY MY LATE FEE? SONY YOU NEED TO FIX THIS. Or as the SONY rep said, “Hey on the down low, just Google a tear down and get the disk out your self and do the YLOD fix” Ya nice one SONY.

I can’t believe Sony is going to get away with this. Well Back to PC games then. Sony sucks as bad as Microsoft’s XBOX now.

Comments all over the web starting today about Bricked systems after Updating. DON’T FAT PS3’s UPDATE ITS A SCAM. How can they force you to update and then Brick your system? I AM SO REPORTING YOU SONY.

  • SO, where are all those sellouts that couldn’t seem to shut up? The no-life datastorm dude and the others?

  • Woo! It has been 3+ long weeks, but now its finally back. I “know” some kid on facebook who’s all upset because he can’t play cod, lol. He keeps spamming updates about how mad he is that other regions have gotten back online while Asia has not. While it sucks and I understand how he’d be mad, but it doesn’t help getting angry and spamming dumb status updates. I’m sure it’ll be up soon all around the world. Some people are too impatient.

  • is it finally available in WA?

  • lol @ almulder

people have said that this update and that bricked my system. It’s a coincidence. I have a fat ps3 and it’s fine. It definitely sucks that you rented a movie and it got stuck in there, but hey that’s life. I found it hilarious if true that the Sony rep told you to google a fix, hahaha. My advice is do it and avoid the late fee or possibly having to pay for the movie if you don’t get the disc back. You could also take the disc out by just taking apart the blu ray player easy peasy.

  • noodles yes i’m still gettin the code…..what state u live in

  • i still cant log in on ps3 account help

  • This is a just a little late to make me feel better about your network. See ya Sony going to Xbox!!!

  • @almulder c’mon kid quit renting movies Sony hasn’t seen and you won’t have that problem! You are so full of crap about the bricking reports.. The most current report I seen was 55 weeks ago, you are not credible at all. Man up and spend some money.. You had the fat one since it came out obviously and had no problems till now. It’s like a computer, it needs updates all the times and yours finally took a crap dude. Get over it and grow up!!!

  • Ny…u?

  • Frankly, I really really don’t effing understand why so many people are so understanding of PSN and Sony. This should NEVER have happened ever. For those that are happy about a “more secure network,” you’re crazy. It should have been safe and secure from the start.

Thanks a lot Sony for all the effing hassles (replacing credit cards/changing ALL my passwords/monitoring my bank account daily) I had to go through because of your stupid network.

  • Wooo! PSN Is up :D

  • @ pcchamp2k1

would you like some cheese with that whine?

  • When can we get free maps for COD?

  • louisiana

  • You know for all those pansy little pricks that were butt-hurt over the outage it helped me alot. I gained so many games on the cheap over craigslist. i got KZ3, Army of Two: 40th day, and so many others for about 20 a pop. All in all i now have a small stockpile of games totaling over 20 games, so this outage helped me alot and i hope it will teach those who are stupid enough to cry like whiny little betches to shut up and man up.

  • It’s good to be back!

  • i love u sony

  • all u microsoft sellouts sony is back on whooooo

  • It is like a second life for us. Thanks a lot PSN. Let the games begin.
Am very excited to get in touch again with my friends…

  • thanks sony for bringing psn back up but i cant log into my account on my ps3 i can play online whats up with that

  • Thank You Sony! the wait is finally over! I hope this never happens again and by all means take all the time you need to get the store up and runnin again! Just make it secure for all gamers, Cant wait 4 the free stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @pchamp2k1, …………………if you buy anything online, from any website, your information can be taken just as easily as if it happened with sony, so why be so mad?

  • TOMAHAWK!!!! OH OH!!! WE JUST HIT A 360!!! OH WAIT!! WE EARNED A TROPHY!!!! YEAH!!!!!

  • I am very happy to see that online function is back up and running, well done at the team of people that had to cop the crap from everybody because this could have happen to anyone! I still think you guys at sony are the best and thankyou.

  • TEARS OF JOY!

  • Thanks for all of your hard work sony!
