Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

Great job Sony!! I really appreciate how you guys bounced back from this attack. Hope you have caught the people responsible for this attack. I am a loyal PlayStation costumer. I own both a PSP and a PS3 and I love them both! Keep up the great work guys!
Thank you Sony, might have been a long tough wait, but everyone is happy now, and all is forgiven haha… Also, for all the people who are commenting asking when the store will be back up, you just got online play back, along with a ton of other stuff, give Sony a break. Give em more than 12hrs to make sure PSN is safe to get back up and running.

Holy crap! I was soooo impressed with how much faster the updates download and install. A point that was driven home when I was waiting forever for the PS update last night.

I’m not gonna be one of these people to come and make a post chastising you for any lapses in security.In fact,I believe all things considered you handled it very well,and I thank you for that.I’ve watched this blog for the duration of the incident.I’ve read every post from players on both sides of the fence,and even those who wanted to stay in the middle.I don’t blame Sony personally,and I never will.Picture this,I’m walking down the street with my bosses briefcase, and I get robbed.The briefcase was locked and I just updated the combination.I fail to see how losing any of the information was my fault since it was in fact an outside entity who broke my security and committed a crime. Credit Cards are protected there never should have been a gripe over that really.I would rather have used a CC than anything because of that fact. Continued…….
My only two complaints is (1) That of the ID theft protection.I would like to see this extended to 3 years of coverage. This is potentially something I have to concern myself with forever now.I read a report that most stolen data doesn’t even start getting sold for over a year, and by then our “Free” protection would be over.
(2 I will assume this wouldn’t happen again, but if there is an incident such as this I would hope you will be more forthcoming with information. Even if it is repeated info.This blog is what separated all the junk reporting that was going on….the only problem was Sony wasn’t responding to anything.
Now I finally got to put my 2 cents in :) I have a feeling that you guys might even lead the online security revolution that’s sure to begin. You’re Sony and you’re the guys who think this stuff up. Welcome back. Still seemingly waiting for Wisconsin to come back online so I can sync trophies but I started Nier on the 360 the other day, so I’ll probably just go finish that up first.
Looking forward to the store coming back up so I can pick up FF7-9 (have physical, want electronic for my PSP), and a couple other games I decided to hold off on, but decided I just had to have when the PSN was down … :D
Finally, I tend to agree with what I’ve read online; the Kazuo Hirai video looked really good. Normally I wouldn’t watch an entire video like this (because it’s basically saying what’s already been said), but the production quality was real nice.
