Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy Coming to PS3 With 3D

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy for PS3

For the last few months, we’ve been working on bringing the first three Splinter Cell games – Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory – to the PS3. Splinter Cell and Sam Fisher don’t need an introduction; these three games are highly acclaimed games and it has been a great pleasure for us to work on these titles.

The PS3 Game

When we started this project, one of our main goals was to provide the players with the best possible content. Hence we decided to port the game from the PC version which had more content and detail compared to the PS2 version.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy on PS3 will include:

  • Graphics in HD resolution
  • 3D Stereoscopic support for 3D TVs
  • Some exciting and challenging Trophies

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and talk briefly about the gameplay and original titles.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy for PS3

Core Gameplay

Splinter Cell games are third-person, stealth-based action games under the Tom Clancy license. You play as Sam Fisher, a highly trained secret agent who works for the Third Echelon, a new NSA initiative. Stealth is the main theme of the gameplay: You will have to walk in shadows and remain invisible, leaving no trace of your existence. Throughout the game, you will receive information and instructions from your handlers. As Sam, you have access to a number of skills and gadgets that you will have to use wisely in order to progress. You will have to plan your moves and manage your resources effectively.

Original Games

Splinter Cell: First released in 2002. The story of Splinter Cell begins in Georgia, where a newly recruited Fisher is dispatched in order to gather intelligence about the disappearance of two CIA officers. As the story evolves, Sam discovers that a nuclear weapon has been planted on the US soil. Sam must do everything possible to stop the nuclear bomb from detonating.

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow: First released in 2004. The US embassy in East Timor is taken over by an anti-separatist Indonesian Militia named Darah Dan Doa, led by Suhadi Sudano. Sam is sent to gather intelligence, and he discovers a plot that involves a biological bomb attack on the US. Sam has to race against time to save the day.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: First released in 2005. In East Asia, a US battleship is sunk by a North Korean missile, resulting in a war between North Korea and the U.S.. North Korea claims that the missile was launched unintentionally. While out to gather information, Sam discovers about a plot that may start World War III and he must stop to it at any cost.

We believe all these along with the original gameplay mechanics will make the Splinter Cell HD a nice treat for PS3 owners. These games will be available in a Trilogy Pack on Blu-Ray, and individually on PSN.

Hope to see you soon — with your night-vision goggles on!

  • Also, with the game being HD, is the resolution gonna be 1080p?

  • Demo or Game Trial ?

  • Move/Sharpshooter support ?

  • are they gonna be the PC ports or the PS2 versions of this trilogy?

  • Based on the PC versions, uh? That’s actually great news, but…

Ever since this was first announced, I’ve been wondering why the PS2/Xbox version of Double Agent isn’t included in this collection. I guess the reason for that is that the PC version of Double Agent is the current-gen one that’s already available on PS3?

Is there any hope for last-gen Double Agent to eventually also get the HD makeover?
I am definitely buying the collection, but the lack of Double Agent makes it feel sadly incomplete.

  • Glad to see these are coming to PS3.
Not my type of game though.

I hope Sony can get FFX,X-2, XII, Dirge of Cerberus and the Kingdom Hearts games ported over with HD and trophies.

  • The pack looks kewl… but not co-op or online? Someone didn’t exactly “step up” now did they…

  • meh, i’d rather see a Soul Reaver HD trilogy.

…splinter cell always seemed like a poor mans Metal Gear Solid to me *shrug*

  • What will the framerate be running at for all games? And the HD versions, what HD will it be at? 720p? 1080p?

  • is this in game footage? cause this looks alot better then the other trilogys.
looking foward to this one once it gets a release date.

  • How about re-releasing Splinter Cell 4 and 5 for a change with trophy support?
Splinter Cell 4 for PS3 sucked so badly than are no words to describe it.
And I hope Splinter Cell 5 releases someday for PS3 as well.
If you want to bring the series to PS3 it better be the whole package or else it won’t be worth it.

  • No Multiplayer = No buy… Enough said.

Ubi sorry to say this, but you created masterpiece online experience… and you killed it since Double Agent. Giving us this without the online is giving us nothing.

    Thanks.

  • When i read this i got so excited to play the multiplayer aspect of the game! I wont be purchasing if there no multiplayer…

CAN WE GET SOCOM 2 HD PLEASEE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!?!?!?!!

  • Are there any Home rewords to unlock like the tomb raider game??

  • What’s with the whole cell-shaded look and bright colours? It doesn’t exactly fit the Splinter Cell series.

  • Awesome, those screenshots are looking really good. Will they all have their own Platinum trophy? I notice you said no co-op, does that mean there’s no Local co-op?

Well, I’ll buy SC trilogy along with Prince of Persia trilogy. Speaking of which, when will the retail version release for PoP? I see it on amazon for April 19, is that release date true or is that a placeholder date?

  • You know, this is GREAT NEWS… I’m a totally HD remastered Blu-ray collections fan. Please, is there any possibility -or what should we do- for Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 4 releasing in a Bluray disc as well? That would be totally awesome as those GREAT games deserve the treatment as well. I’m still sad PoP Trilogy didn’t make it on Bluray in America (import!).

  • Yes! So now it’s God of War, ICO, Prince of Persia, Sly and the Splinter Cell Collection. When are we getting Conviction?!!

  • now we need splinter cell conviction

  • now we nee splinter cell conviction

  • Mr. Mooney, do you by chance know if the HUD and control scheme in the first Splinter Cell will be updated to be more like Pandora Tommorrow or Chaos Theory or will it remain exactly the same as it was?

    Thanks!

  • Alex, I’m sure you’re not entirely responsible for this, but your public relations and costumer communications are terrible.

This is the first official announcement from Ubisoft that I’ve seen about this product – and it’s after the official release date, no less! (Which, as we all know, has been delayed). I often wonder if you use silence as a marketing/PR strategy… Maybe you like to build suspense… Keep people guessing…

And, you hardly said anything we don’t know already! What about xbox? What about multiplayer? I know people already asked, but will it ever be released? Fans won’t be happy – and they really won’t be happy if you make them pay for multiplayer later as a separate dlc (which I suspect is the plan).

I’ve been very disappointed with your company’s products and conduct over the past five years or so. It’s tough to see, since back in the day, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell were my two favourite games. Please do whatever you can to improve things.

  • Also, the graphics look nice and crisp, but the bright colours and cartoony, cell-shaded style don’t fit Splinter Cell’s brand identity.

    Thanks for the update, though.

  • Is there a reason why Splinter Cell Double Agent was not included in the package?

  • One last question… Why isn’t multiplayer included?

  • I would like to know why the xbox/ps2 version of Double Agent was left out. That version is actually superior IMO to the 360/PS3 version.

  • I thought the release date was for june 21st around there?

  • Sorry but if it doesn’t have online I’m probably not gonna get it for at least a year or two. The whole reason I was even thinking about getting it was because I played it a long time ago but didn’t have a good internet connection for online. I did check it out without a match with anyone and it looked cool. This was your perfect chance to add it. First ps3 collection from ps2 games to have online but you blew it.

  • If this doesn’t get online then I’m not gonna get it until probably a year or two. The whole reason I even thought about getting it was due to the fact that I played it a long time ago but never got to play online due to not having a good internet connection. This was your chance to have the first PS3 collection from ps2 games to have online but you blew it. If it gets patched in thats ok but I’m not gonna be happy if I have to pay for something that should have been in there. Oh well; its your sales.

  • I really need to save for a 3D television. It’s awesome to see the, Splinter Cell series have it!. It’s been a while since I played them, can’t wait!.

  • Hey! Are there going to be any of the 3 extra missions on the pc/xbox version? You know, the Vselka Infiltration, Vselka Submarine, etc.
Oh yeah, would it be possible to see that one ps2 extra mission?

  • its funny how ubisoft ignores any conviction questions, such a shame, you know sc sold more on sony consoles, and just because microsoft put in a lot of zeros in your cheque doesnt mean the real gamers should be ignored

  • btw, for anyone who is planning to buy this game, you might as well buy heroin and needles, why the hell would you guys support a gaming franchise who wouldnt even support you back, i mean 360 got a new game, ps3 got a rereleased game, is that fair?

  • Hey! hi guys i was wondering if theres any chance for splinter cell conviction for ps3??? a simple answer is all i ask pls?

  • so is like pc version graphic but ps2 version control?

  • Very good series and its about time. I can not wait to download this game off the psn. But I do have a question? When and where is the next installment of the Rainbow Six Franchise. Rainbow six is one of the most recognized Tom Clancy titles. As a Baltimore native along with Tom Clancy I would like to see a Rainbow Six in a bigger little city like Baltimore or even somewhere local. Please do not go the War route that just is not the rainbow code. We need more Rainbow Six so please bring the series back where it belongs.

  • So is Splinter Cell Conviction included? How about release date and price?

  • No online multiplayer? What is that crap? Chaos Theory needs multiplayer. Without it, you’re missing half the experience of that game.

  • @Dark Recoil. Best idea I’ve heard in a long time. This idea although quite good should be secondary. Get conviction on here first then look to the old titles, (and preferably the Soul Reaver series first). Come on Eidos, get your finger out!

  • It’s great that the Splinter Cell games are ports of the PC version but are any of the exclusive missions from the PS2 versions being added to the trilogy? I have never played the PS2 exclusive missions. Also, are there any plans to release the Xbox (original) or PS2 version of Double Agent that was made by Ubisoft Montreal? I know there is the current gen version by Ubisoft Shanghai is out but this would complete the whole package.

  • No Multiplayer component is a slap in the face to the true Splinter Cell fans and an idiotic move on Ubisofts part. I will not be buying this compilation as a result. With the Xbox live servers down, there is no way for us to play Spy Vs Merc. Why not release an arcade game called Splinter Cell Spy Vs Merc then? Put it on Live and PSN and charge $10-$15. Instant profit. GIVE US WHAT WE WANT!

  • tom clancy is the author of suspense/thriller novels and creator of the splinter cell series

  • i cant wait, this is gonna be awsome

  • i never got a chance play the multiplayer version of this game but i dont care if it doesnt have it im buying it

  • Alex, could you please clarify: I can understand that you removed the online function (keeping up servers etc. is extra work) but does your “Sorry no co-op will be included in the trilogy” reply also relate to SPLIT-SCREEN co-op?

Because I could miss online co-op, but hell… Chaos Theory had one of the best split-screen co-op modes I ever played. I’d put it on pre-order right now if it just had split-screen co-op.

So, my question in short: does it still have split-screen co-op?

  • REALLY disappointed to hear you guys are leaving out the multiplayer. PT and CT had the coolest multiplayer I had ever played, then of course it was screwed up in DA and then never bothered to be fixed in Conviction.

Sadly I think no multiplayer means no purchase for me.

  • No co-op? No thanks.

  • Any explanation for why multiplayer wasn’t included?

  • dis going to be the bomb, tom clancy yeaaaaaaaa

  • This is amazing news. I always watched my bro playing Splinter Cell and later I started playing it too. I think I’ll pick this up. Any info about pricing?
