Sony, please, stop trying to do that. PS3 are hacked. Think one more time, all the people that bought a PS3 system know about ORIGINAL games. PS3 was the only video game that need original games, and even that a lot of people bought the ps3.
Will be almost 3 years that I have one, and I WILL continue buying PS3 original games, because I want, and because I love Playstation. Your works it’s amazing. But, you need to focus about yours clients.
You loose this fight against the hackers, it is done. Take carefull for not loosing your clients too. Because WE need a good service. We need better games and better features. I never bought any other platform, but if you start to release one firmware update per week, I will buy a XBOX360.
Everyone that really enjoy the ps3 will continue buying games. I’m a playstation plus user, so, I pay for what I can have for free.
We love Playstation, don’t make this bad. Don’t lose what you still have. Try to do a better world for PS3, and everyone, I sad, everyone will support that.
Thanks.
PS: Please, COMIC BOOK STORE FOR PS3 TOO =D (Without region restriction, really can’t access my Video Store :()
its the persons property that they are stealing i guess thats okay then.. The reason why we are having backups is because we can have access to things if they are broken ever heard of the saying “better be safe, than sorry” it goes for alot of things here.. so stop complaining that we can’t protect what we own because we are the people that did the same thing that you did spent alot of money, to enjoy the gaming community. i Alone spent closet maybe $950+ tax for this stuff and i will take well damn care of it.. what ever i think is necessary.
I’d hope you have been my age before since you were born in 78 apparently. Why would my credit card numbers be in your possession for? For all intents and purposes Sony is saying that you need their permission to access the hardware for your own purposes, which translates into you not actually owning the hardware you bought. I love how anyone is service just loves to point out I know this because I was in the service.
Being in the Navy does not make you knowledgable in all things legal, just as being a member of different high iq societies does not mean I know all. I do know however sony is trying to set a precedent in ownership rights, and I do know anyone with a brain wouldn’t stand for it.
If this was about them protecting themselves guess what, release a patch (like 3.56 that they have just released). But the lawsuits are nothing about protection and everything about ownership related issues. If successful the end result will be a blow to ownership rights in all things electronic, remember this conversation five years down the road so I can tell you I told you so.
all i know is the update did nothing for MW2. it was supposed to make things more secure. well they bypassed it within minutes and theres even more challenge lobbies than before
During the update, at around 15% i got an error message during installation. An hour later i retried and it was fine, howevr…now my ps3 won’t turn on, and I get the yellow light of death sometimes when i try. It freezes when the ps3 is getting ready to let you sign into an account. This happened as i was trying to play a video game, it turned itself off, then freezes when i turn it on
Gonzo_25 I’m just speculating but I believe all the patch did was render previous packages installed useless, and perhaps a way to flag certain things already on the system for future psn bans? Maybe someone from sony will eventually elaborate (most likely not). Cheaters will always exist, that’s unfortunate and annoying… we had this problem in APB where 1 out of 10 players were cheating.
It’s someone that is always around esp. in pc online games… but you can not legislate and sue cheaters away. It’s a personal trait some people have, whether it be from terrible parenting to something much deeper in a persons genetics. However those who say burn the witches and go after everyone because of cheaters is ridiculous.
Even before the current custom firmware there were cheaters in black ops who used exploits relating to denial of service attacks. Regardless of firmware there will always be cheaters. It’s a fact of life, life is not fair and it never will be regardless of what peoples belief and political stance… although socialists and communists will argue for some kind of fair and utopic world.
Not ALL hackers are cheating and stealing games. Some of us just want to run hombrew apps and backup our currently owned legally purchased games.
If you have kids or pets you can appreciate the desire to protect a 60 dollar game disc. So if there is a way I can do this on a system that I paid for I will.
I DON NOT CONDONE PIRACY OF PS3 GAMES.
SHAME ON THOSE WHO DO!!
long live the PS3 hacking community!
Awesome, please stop all these stupid hackers so that the ps3 won’t turn out to be like the xbox360.
retro active.. actually i do know the law better than you. and i was not born in 1978.
If you can cannt except my point and you want me to except yours. A real man excepts All points.. You own the hardware not the sercurity code to the software.. Can u undrstand the concept.? just becuase you buy levi jeans dont make yout he ceo of levi struass company. sony has there sercurity and software inside patiened to their name. Its there secret. You just buy the license to own the hardware and use it. But you cannot modify the sercurity of it and publish framewares without there written consent of sony. You understand
You can do homebrew without knowing the sercurity code of the consoleand having the sercurity keys of the console. once you get them by force”hack” its infringement. One you put them on youtube its “information extortion.”
cont.^^ you dont need money to do information extorion my friend.. its by force.. yes that apllies to hacking a console , once you make it public.. your in default..SOny has to protect their investments. As you do for your own investments in life
Unlike you i dont get a kickout backing something up in a electronic device.I dont care for homebrew. etc etc… What i care about is honest gaming

@TheIronHacker, You do realize that Blu-rays are the most scratch and wear resistant discs made in recent time right? Using the Linux/backup argument is complete bull and you know it. If you want linux install it on the computer you type your comments on. If you wanted linux on your PS3, you should have bought a PS3 phat and never updated it. Cracking a licensed firmware is not acceptable just to backup games and use linux.
If you have kids and pets, then put your games on a damn shelf you idiot. If you can back up games, your value will eventually get the best of you, and you’ll end up backing up games that you borrowed/rented or trade in the games after they’ve been backed up.
Your argument is total crap.
Watching that load bar move was better than any movie I’ve ever seen.
I’d tell you how the update ended, but I’m against spoilers. Sorry.
Correct me if I am wrong but you can modify “your” hardware with any hacks but the problem lies with you trying to use Sony’s network. If you have a hacked console and try to connect via Sony’s network you are violating there terms of service which they have every right to enforce.
You people are idiots who immediately associate hackers with pirates. There are hackers who just want to run their own software on THEIR machine. We didn’t lease our PS3 from Sony. I don’t remember signing a lease, or renting document when I bought mine from walmart. So I 100% own my PS3 and I can do anything I want with it.
BTW Sony your security update is useless we already have the keys from the .self that you added in this update. The keys are from lv1, lv2, and isoldr. GG Sony but you forgot the most important thing. WE HAVE THE METLDR KEY. You can’t update that without bricking every single PS3 that exists in the world including your sheep that believe adding functionality to a machine automatically means you pirate.
BTW I’m on 3.55 CFW kamew with all my emulators, and I’m developing my own application right now! God I love being able to develop software on a machine that is supposed to be locked down.
See you said it… the buyers are licensees, which means not owners. Sony is alleging that George is reponsible for illegal piracy. That is no different than if I were to chip a guys car to give him more speed and power. Then the guy uses his car’s newly found speed and power to run down a guy and hit him with the car. Then I am charged with murder because chipping the car made the murder possible. Guess what that is lunacy and this is what Sony is alleging. I don’t care if you “except” this (ahem) but this is what they are saying. Have you even read the court orders?
I wonder how many of these people that are complaining about the modded PS3s have jailbroken iphones or rooted androids. ANYTHING that can be made can be modded, and there is NO way to stop it.
By the way mcbuttz jailbreaking the ps3 is not what is costing them money. What will cost them huge sums of money is the lost revenue from former supporters like me. I have been on the homebrew scene since before sony even made consoles. In grade/high school we made games for graph calculators okay, homebrewers were here first and Sony can’t legislate us away. When their next console is released I wont buy.
The next flat screen I buy will not be Sony, the next phone I buy will not be Sony. I’m embarassed to even admit how much money I have spent for the ps3/games/add ons but the amount is greater than 2,000 dollars US excluding taxes. This is revenue from me they wont ever see again after alleging buying hardware does not consitute ownership of said hardware, and that homebrew related activities amounts to crimes of piracy.
I’m done with them for the next generation of consoles. This is why there needs to be more competition in the console arena so we wouldn’t have to put up with this kind of nonsense.
@Retro have you really read all the court documents? Sony’s lawsuit are all based around lies, falsified evidence(donating to him to say he accepts donations for the hacks.) Saying they have legal jurisdiction over him when they don’t. Citing sources as Twitter, and youtube for legal jurisdiction. Sony don’t have a leg to stand on. Also Geohot didn’t enable piracy. Piracy was enabled on the PS3 when the PSJailbreak came out by PSjailbreak team. SO if you are gonna say anything about the PS3-scene do your damn research. I spend 5 hours a day reading up on the scene and keeping up to date. So before you open up your mouth why don’t you read the papers and actually open up your mind before you believe Sony like the sheep you are.
Sony again use lies, hearsay, and false evidence to try and get George Hotz. They even try to say a person only know by the nickname Bushing resides in California and so ties him to the case and so they have jurisdiction over hotz. Which bushing lives in Europe IIRC. They also found kids on PSN that love the name geohot so used Geo1Hot as a nick and the guy lives in Rhode island. But said that was the real George Hotz. When he lives in New jersey.
i was expecting this update after all the news i’ve heard about jailbreaking. I have always been against piracy. I buy blu-ray disc games. please hackers stop what you are doing. you are the reasong this economy is failing.
Retroactive-See my comment above. Its not that you can hack or mod your console, you just cant reconnect it to the network which forces the update. The console is yours to do with but when using the services rendered through the network Sony can and will enforce their user terms.
I used my ROOTED Droid 1, running Project Elite Rom, and the PS3 Brew App to jailbreak my PS3.
The only things I’ve done is put an SNES, a NES, and a SEGA Gen emulators on my PS3.
I dunno why, but I did.
Now I can’t play my Sonic Spinball.
Maybe if you put these emulators for sale on PSN, I wouldn’t do that.
Meepo… wow. Hopefully your last statement was in jest, if not I can’t even comment. The economy is in the toilet because (in simple terms) the apathy of the citizens. Years down the road when pc and other electronic companies start going after people for simply opening up their devices or moddifying it without publishing their findings you guys will blame hackers for that too I suppose. It will be your support of this corporatist idealogy and apathy that will be to blame, much like this economy is to blame on those who supported and allowed it to happen.
Oh wait… I bought the SEGA Mega collection and can, forgot.
I feel stupid now.
There’s definitely hackers reading this forum and giggling at the misery other LEGIT / SKILLED players are facing..
Message to the hackers: GO PRACTICE OR GO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE!
but just want to save money, aka backup manager, or make their own developments that they can gain more experience on and feel good about themselves that they accomplished something wow.. and its been said before that sometimes that companys send games to phazeddl.com pirated websites for they can be pirated for they can also gain more money, so its the hackers fault that alot of people now in america doesn’t have jobs or a roof over their head. I love that argument that you have there. Think about what you are going to say before you talk.
@the one he fears. NO.. once you mod the console and make it public in any way. (pvt internet site, magazine. youtube, radio) then your in defualt. If you make a frameware and go online with it your in defualt.. But if you never updated your console and do everything in private its ok. But once you update past 1.50, anything you do after that your in default, becuase they dont do 1.50 anymore. All new consoles are set at the lastest frameware..

HORRIBLE update timing…silly me, I wanted to play Dead Space 2.
onehefears EULA/TOS does not constitute law either. How many times in court have we seen cases dismissed based solely on them? I will say that you probably should read all the court paperwork rendered to george though because it’s not just about that. They are saying in short everything that is illegal George has done. They said he is responsible for piracy (see my analogy above about car chipping). What about Sony’s crimes? When I bought the PS3 I planned on using it as a server because I was informed by Sony’s advertisement I can run another operating system on it… then take it away from me with the threat of not being able to play the newer games. That is a crime in of itself. Of course other non-techy people will say “so what?” or disagree simply because that functionality and feature is not important to them.
Thing is what most people do is allow other people’s rights to be trampled on as long as it does not personally affect them. Most will only become involved in these arguments when it hits home for them, and it’s unfortunate. Sony will lose money as I said and not because of piracy but because of the crap they are trying to pull.
Hmmm… looking at the many posts, I come to think of my phone.
You have to Root to do anything with the programing.
I rooted mine, so I was able to change the rom, change the notification bar and all the icons. I used root to change the boot logo (the Motorola “M”) and the boot animation that comes afterwards, and I’m able to use Wireless Tethering even though the Droid 1 isn’t supposed to.
Isn’t this the same as jailbreaking the PS3?
Why am I able to do this to my phone, but not the PS3?
Even in the defense that I’m connecting to their network, I’m connecting to the same Market, the same 3g network, and the same phone towers that my phone is supposed to.
I find this statement holds true for most agreements and it’s just hilarious in and of itself:
“Generally speaking, a software license and various terms-of-service and terms-of-use agreements say the following:
Whatever you think we said, or whatever we said, about the product may have nothing to do with reality, and you agree not to expect that it does.
No matter what happens, including damage to your equipment or even someone’s death, you agree not to blame us even if it is our fault.
If we are a Web site and you use it, no matter what bad things happen, it is not our fault.
If you contribute anything at all to a site or system, we own it.
You will never sue us for anything, ever.”
@retro.. Im not versus homebrew, but you dont need to know sony sercurity code/ make illegal framewares to do so. Like is said before. sony ps3 had a homebrew site just for the homebrew fans/crowd.. But some wanted to do more and tried to hack into t the console. thus the removal of the os by sony… Your kind own undoing , not sony’s
Its not everyone’s fault . blame geo hotzz /fail overflow the bad apples. And you rent everything in life. Even your own life> becuase we all work for pay, thus “at will” We are lending our time”renting/leasing ” our time for money.

Been almost 3 weeks since Sony promised a fix to the hacking/cheating problem. If this was their best attempt I’m ashamed. Last five lobbies I’ve joined in MW2 are hacked.
@retro// one question. did you make the os function? did U patient the os in your name, no.. you bought user license like everyone else. Once you turn the console on you agree to it. DOnt matter if you ever went online. Once you turn the console on you agree. if you make a frameware and etc and go make it public your in default. geo hotzz is screwd.. know why becuase he was not suppose to know or abtain the sercurity code of sony product.. he is not a sony employee.
and sony does lose money with jailbreak they have already lost $650 million+..

wow a frickin security patch that the hackers will defeat in no time, gee thanks Sony
lol so apparently borrowing games from your friends just to test it out to see if you like is also considered pirating.. so renting games from blockbuster and gamefly is more committing crimes because they are pirating for profit.. Which that one is technically against the law i thought. I actually thought pirating was making copies of something then SELLING them to other people that you don’t have rights to. Buts its considered legal to buy bulks of stuff as you see on ebay, and sell it and thats considered legit.. is Ebay at fault to.. because its selling used stuff and stuff that is bought brand new the consumer is technically selling second hand stuff even if the thing hasn’t been opened.. Think about it people..
buttz I posted but it didn’t go through. But you have a screwed perception of reality. I turned on the ps3 so that means I agreed to have an important feature (reason I bought the ps3) removed at the threat of it not playing future games? No, I did not. Did those users who bought the xbox only to have their house burnt down by it agree to that simply by turning on their xbox? Your arguments would be trounced in court my good fellow, I guarantee you that much. I’d like to think you’d win cases by paying off the judges (at least that would be your best bet).
Sony,
Brick offending consoles. You will not win this or any patch war, fact. I am an avid adult gamer with thousands ( I have a job) put into this HOBBY. Protect yourself, developers, and consumers. Just hit the kill switch before the CWF Effectively spoofs OFW. Your paying customers won’t mind. The thieves won’t, but who cares. It’s not as if they add anything to the gamer community or gaming industry at large.
To the CWF INSTALLERS:
You didn’t map the key, so slap your own Smug face. It only took 4 years so implying Sony is incompetant is pathetic. Gaming is expensive. It is not however a NEED nor did anyone force you to purchase Sony technology or proprietary media. As hard as you might try, there is only flimsy justification for inconvieniancing other users, impacting the quality of their experience (that they worked hard to pay for) or effectively damaging the industry. Get a job, some dignity and perhaps an idea.
this firmware takes away the ability to install firmware through a usb, took away recovery mode so that if your ps3 is bricked its permanent and made it so no one on any other firmware has access to psn,
sounds like communism to me=P
ill just stick to 3.55 kmeaw cfw
i have way more fun=P
and i dont have to deal with nazi corporations
Aeryn hackers are responsible for most of the hardware and software advances since the inception of personal computers, to say hackers do not contribute is an ignorant thing to say. Hackers are also ripped off by corporations more than you think so you have a lot to thank hackers for. But who cares right, just shout burn the witches, set us back to the dark ages who cares as long as you are not the one being hung right? Sure why not.
@meepo99 pirates are the reason the economy is failing? Are you some naive 13 year old who hasn’t seen the real world yet? If you honestly believe people who download games are effecting the economy on any scale you are ignorant beyond all belief. Also you need to educate yourself on the terms of Piracy and hackers. They are two completely different things. The hackers that have done the vast majority of the CFW, and all the hombrew don’t care about pirating games. They openly advocate against it. The only hack that was released that was directly designed for piracy was PSJailbreak which was a Chinese company. They were in the business to make money, not to care about right or wrong.
Please educate yourself before spewing nonsense. Educate yourself not only on the PS3’s hacking scene, but economics in your country, county, state, and on a global scale.
3.56 firmware update preventing HDD upgrades for newer Playstation 3 models
http://www.examiner.com/video-game-news-in-national/3-56-firmware-update-preventing-hdd-upgrades-for-newer-playstation-3-models
@mcbuttz78 the PS3 never had any type of officially endorsed homebrew. I don’t know which console you have but it’s definitely not the PS3. They did have OtherOS but that’s not homebrew. Also geohot gained access to it because OtherOS was a piss poor implementation of Linux. You didn’t even have full 3D support. Which was why he did what he did. Again you are sadly lacking in the education department. Google is a few keystrokes away yet most people don’t have the capacity to use it. Why are people so ignorant when they are connected to all of humanity’s knowledge at a few simple keystrokes?
xPraetorianx because they love authoritarian ideology, they love to be stomped on because it’s their fetish. Some people have a foot fetish, some people have leg fetishes, and some people have armpit fetishes… then you have some that loved to stepped all over and ask for more, and even some people love to watch others being stomped all over oh how they enjoy it.
@mcbuttz78 LMAO this kid is amazingly ignorant. Geohot is actually going to get the case dismissed. For a lot of reasons. Also you advocate not being able to fully own the product you spent hundreds of dollars on? So you like spending money but basically being a slave when it comes to a company who you gave that money to? I hope to god I never have to live in a society where your logic is the law. I’d rather die then become a slave to any nation or big company.
It’s extremely tragic that people in this world lay down and accept it when someone denies them their rights, and freedoms. They just accept it and move on, but wait… they also advocate it. If more people develop this mentality I can see a future where you are constantly monitored in every place you go, everything you do, everything you eat, drink or even think about doing. It’s a society where if you share a difference of opinion with someone with power, you will be shot. This could very well happen in a far off future if people keep letting authoritative entities deprive them of their rights, and freedoms.
xPraetorianx (played APB before?) Also I am willing to wager that when mcbuttz sleep even his dream characters are committing suicide! Would you want to live inside his head? Hah.
@retroact1ve dude I find it simply disgusting that some people are this ignorant. These people would line up in an execution if someone spinned it and made it sound like it was for the good of humanity. I wonder why so many people don’t have the willpower to break a way from the drones and think for themselves. Humans were given freewill for a reason, but sadly it’s wasted on hundreds of people around the world. They would rather throw free will to the wind so they can follow anyone with enough money, charisma, and a half assed plan for some twisted agenda. Most people would lie back and accept it. I can’t fathom how these people are brainwashed to get to that mentality. It also seems free thinkers are frowned upon in society. Innovation is also frowned upon as well.
@retro no I have not. But if that game shares any similarities with the way this kid thinks. I hope to god it never becomes a reality. lol I agree with you on the suicide part. Hell no I wouldn’t. It would probably disgust me and I’d do everything in my power to break free while causing as much destruction as possible.
xPraetorianx you are right there, was that a comment about Obama? haha. Also believe me if people are told something is green, or good for the earth people will accept it because they have indoctrinated people to do so. If you want to see something truly disgusting turn on the nick jr/nick channel sometime, contains tons of carbon misinformation, and global warming propaganda. People honestly believe that giving the government extra money will help the environment… it’s green but only to those who are profiting (lots of green hah)
alls well ends well … servers went down for nothing last night, damn thing is hacked already lol
yay im not banned woot
