Yes, the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial really is coming! Just like its predecessor, the multiplayer mode for Killzone 3 will be put through rigorous testing at the hands of the toughest, most demanding critics in existence: you, the fans. The Trial starts on October 25th and access is limited to 5,000 U.S. Plus subscribers, so please read the following instructions carefully if you want to know how to secure a spot in the Public Beta:
- Be(come) a Plus subscriber
- With the exception of a handful of key media partners and selected PAX feedback participants, access to the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial is limited to PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you’re not enjoying the many benefits of Plus membership yet, now’s the time to sign up!
- Download the theme
- On October 19th, an exclusive Killzone 3 XMB Theme will appear in the Plus section of the PlayStation Store. The first 10,000 Plus subscribers to download this theme (5,000 U.S. Plus subscribers and 5,000 European Plus subscribers) will receive access to the Public Beta Trial.
- Check your email
- After you’ve downloaded the Killzone 3 XMB Theme, you will receive an email on Oct. 25th containing the Public Beta Trial promotion code and further instructions through the address you registered as your PSN Sign-In ID. Make sure you’ve set your notification preferences to accept emails from SCE, or we won’t be able to contact you.
Those of you who make it into the Public Beta Trial are expected to provide honest gameplay feedback, report bugs and glitches, and help test our network code in real-world scenarios. In short, we’re counting on you to help us improve Killzone 3! In return you’ll get a good taste of the multiplayer mode, including its brand-new Operations game type, party system, and jetpack and exoskeleton vehicles.
And if that doesn’t convince you to take a shot at the Public Beta Trial, maybe this new trailer will:
I’m excited to see a beta for K3 because it increases the chance for a smooth, successful launch & lessens the need for patches.
HOWEVER, I DON’T LIKE the idea that 10,000 users get in based on the random chance of downloading a theme at the right time. What if they aren’t even active players or never played a Killzone game? If they want to beta test properly, Guerilla needs to select people who either played thru Killzone 2 or are at least active on the PS forums. People like me & other fans of the series (who spent dozens of hours in both the campaign and multiplayer of Killzone 2) would not only be more appreciative of the chance to play in the beta, but also more qualified to provide useful and needed feedback.
Going on, gamers unfamiliar with KZ, or fans of other shooting styles (like COD, for example) are more likely to start up the KZ 3 beta, play for 5 min & then delete it or never play it again. When that happens it sucks for fans & devs alike because they are going to lose tons of beta testers, as well as potentially lose the real fans who would actually test the game. I’m hoping there are more opportunities for the beta in the future, but only time will tell.
Wow. The amount of people on here outraged that they won’t be getting what they were never promised is staggering.
It’s a Beta, not a demo. Early and/or exclusive Beta access was one of the promises of Plus…BUT I don’t ever recall Sony saying that every Plus member would be eligible for every Beta, and it was incredibly naive to think this would be the case. I doubt I’ll get in, even though I’m a Plus subscriber, but that doesn’t change my interest in this game, or my general satisfaction with Plus (paid $50, have already DL’d that much in free/discounted stuff – true, not all of it was gold, but since I’ve been a member for just over a month, I’m pretty confident that the 13+ months remaining on my membership will more than make up for my initial expenditure). Some of you folks really lack perspective.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but is this saying that the PAX keys will be sent out on the 25th as well? I don’t have PS+ so that’s my only hope for the beta right now. :D
That should be the case. If you are one of the lucky ones.
