The Drop: Week of September 27, 2010 New Releases

85 7

I hope my absence and the lack of updates on The Drop last week didn’t scare anyone. No need to fear, Sid and I arrived from the Tokyo Game Show unscathed and in one piece (sorta.) Make sure to check out Sid’s interview with Ueda-san on The Last Guardian, and my video interview with the boys behind Dante’s new look and their re-imagining of Devil May Cry.

The Drop returns fashionably late, with quite the ensemble — sporting a Terror is Reality shirt, bowling wrist guards, virtues thongs, Mega Man boots and a Guardian of Light as it’s wing man. Our lavish PlayStation party has the Warriors of Rock headlining, and everyone invited brought their PSPs for a quick game of soccer. Also, don’t mind the air-born Sims, they tend to fly extremely low. Sit, grab a soda and stay a while, we’re just getting started.

PlayStation 3: Dead Rising 2

PlayStation 3

Dead Rising 2 — Like millions of Americans, former national motocross champion Chuck Greene is gripped by the TV sensation that is Terror is Reality. Hosted by the flamboyant Tyrone King, Terror is Reality pits ordinary members of the public against an arena full of zombies with a simple challenge – kill more zombies than your opponents and stay alive with the winner collecting big money and the chance to come back and secure even greater prizes.

Brunswick Pro Bowling — Strap on the wrist guard and roll on accurate oil patterns, earn tons of trophies, and unlock hidden items on your way to winning the world championship. Customize your bowler with genuine Brunswick equipment from bowling balls, shoes, and clothing. PlayStation Move friendly.

Quantum Theory — In this hyper-real action-shooter, players experience Syd and Filena’s adventurous ascent through a treacherous tower, presented in an art nouveau style, merging the beauty of organic motifs with technology and action-packed gameplay.

Front Mission: Evolved — Front Mission Evolved brings the classic Front Mission franchise into an action-packed third-person shooter that gives players full control of a massive humanoid war machine — the Wanzer. Choose from dozens of weapons and parts, including weapons that can be equipped on both hands and shoulders, to customize your Wanzer and blast your way to victory. When you think you’re ready for a new challenge, join the ranks of online pilots for multiplayer battles.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock — Featuring more than 90 tracks that include guitar shredding hits from bands such as Black Sabbath, Megadeth and Slipknot and larger than life anthems from Queen, Muse and KISS. Additionally, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth wrote and recorded “Sudden Death,” an original track for the game, which was inspired by Quest Mode’s storyline. Along with original songs, the set list also includes special re-records by famous artists and tracks from bands that are making their music video game debut.

Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland — The popular alchemic RPG series from Gust makes an evolutionary change with Atelier Rorona. The anime style characters and backgrounds remain, but they have been upgraded with a cell-shaded animation style. The basic game play carries over the tradition of the Atelier series, using alchemy as the main focal point. Like the previous series, players can craft new items and also battle enemies using the power of alchemy.

My Sims: Sky Heroes — Starting as an unknown pilot, players fight to become a celebrated hero as they defeat dangerous enemies in aerial combat, test their reflexes in fast-paced speed challenges, and take on massive enemy bosses that demand all their skills as a pilot to survive. As they progress, players build, customize and tune their aircraft to give them an edge in combat – upgrade wings for swifter maneuvers, switch out the engine for a speed boost, or change the paint job to camouflage the plane and avoid enemy fire.

Rapala Pro Bass Fishing (Also on PSP) — For the first time ever in a fishing game, the competition is set up in a professional tournament structure and the action is presented as a live TV event with announcers (including Barry Brueland, the voice of InFisherman TV), live updates, competitive leader boards, analysis, and final weigh-ins.

PlayStation Network: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

PlayStation Network

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light — Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light showcases an isometric cooperative adventure that aims to deliver instant, intense action and bite-sized puzzles. Follow Lara as she goes in search of the Mirror of Smoke, an ancient artifact located in a ruin known as the Temple of Light. When she finally reaches the mirror, she is ambushed by a mercenary army who takes the mirror and release an evil entity. The Guardian of Light joins Lara as her unlikely ally to save the world from never-ending darkness.

Sword & Soldiers — A side scrolling real time strategy game in which three distinct factions battle for the powers of the gods. The game features a single player campaign and a competitive split-screen multi-player mode as well as several other game modes.

Megaman 9 & Megaman 10 Bundle — Three pellets of energy from your Mega Buster is all you need when Capcom goes double, delivering a bundle of Mega.. men. Game up, I better not see you running and gunning on easy mode, I’m sure you know — Capcom’s blue mascot cannot get a break.

PlayStation Portable: Fifa 11

PlayStation Portable

Fifa Soccer 11 (Also on PS3) — Building on the FIFA 10 gameplay that won 50 sports game of the year awards, FIFA 11 introduces new Pro Passing where pass accuracy is determined by a gamer’s ability on the control pad, and player skill, situation and urgency on the pitch, yielding a deeply rewarding passing system. Plus, a series of new customization tools will enable fans to transform FIFA 11 in new and personally meaningful ways.

  • Nothing about EA MMA; come on lol.

  • Will we be getting the Castlevania demo this week?

  • Oh, and Lara Croft is an ok game.

  • Dead Rising 2 looks interesting…

  • hm…sucks…i was hoping for some ps1 classics, then again, they might not have announced em. good to have you back rey.

    • Thanks, good to be back.

We have a pretty good track record of announcing PS1 Classics on The Drop, but keep an eye out for our official PSN Store Update post this week if anything changes.

  • Mega Man 9 is ridiculously, obnoxiously difficult. Be warned.

    Playing it is masochism.

  • No mention of Borderlands DLC4?

  • If you can comment on PS classics, wouldn’t mind getting an answer to this one. Alundra was recently rated by the ESRB. Is it something we can expect to release here soon? As in within a month? Or before the end of the year?

Unfortunately there’s nothing for me this week but I’m still busy playing plenty of stuff I’ve recently bought!

  • The first real week of games (few but it’s a start for the fall) and we’re another week closer to Halloween and GT5. It’s the beginning of the end of the drought. :)

    • Halloween. My favorite holiday. You’re right, the flow of incoming titles is pretty impressive. We survived another summer drought!

  • Whats the point of doing the drop if its always incomplete? No Borderlands, no alien breed no nothing. What a waste of blog space

  • Can you guys please include if the PSP version will be on UMD and/or PSN? Also, next week is for two new psone imports? Glad I renewed my PS+

  • Man… PSone clasics have come too a crawl it seems, We despratly need
Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 and Panzer front. Those 2 games and it would be christmas in September!

  • I have been experiencing problems with PSN since the last update/maintenance. When I turn my PS3 on it tells me an error has occured and I don’t sign in, but when I do it manually it’s fine. Then, about every time I start a game it also tells me an error has occured and signs me out. When I sign back in, its fine for a second but then again it says an error has occured and signs me out. I sign in 5-6 more times, then the error message, before it stop and I can play.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

  • to finish my debate with you, Rey… Batman had to get his voice changed due to the fact that an actor had to play the role, same deal with inFamous 2 where they needed someone who could do the voice and the mocap

  • @ 13 – zekececil14 .

Yes, I did as well, but it also happened to me before the last maintenance update.

What I normally do when that happens is reset my router. (I unplug the router and then after a couple minutes re-plug it in and reset).

It’s helped me. Not sure if it’s your problem as well, but maybe give it a try.

  • October is upon us :) NBA 2K11 + Castlevania: Lords of Shadows and Vanquish <3

  • EA MMA demo should be on there AND Borderlands DLC. Really Playstation, if you’re gonna do a blog at least now what’s coming to your own store….

  • Don’t ask this guy just do a midiocre announce in this web every week and dosen’t answer questions. Sony should dismiss this guy and get someone who’s really interested in this job.

  • @17 They don’t post about demos nor DLC… don’t be so ignorant next time

  • The Drop is for new PS3, PSP and PSN games.. and he does answer questions but consider that today is a sunday

  • Just an FYI, both Brunswick Pro Bowling and Rapala Pro Bass Fishing were available in stores LAST week.

  • I played the Lara Croft demo and loved it and will be buying it as soon as it is for sale. Funny how it dl’d from the store but isnt actually for sale yet!!

Oh and I posted this next bit elsewhere but don’t want it lost in the backlogs so..

Jeff or Rey :) can you please tell me why I can’t earn trophies for RE5 Gold? I bought it same day I bought my Move and love it but for some reason I can’t get trophies for it!! Oh and I had some for the orignal version but since I started Gold no trophies!!!???

  • Are those 3 the only PSN games coming out out I’ve read on almost every gaming website Days of Thunder Nascar Edition & Blacklight Tango Down were coming out tuesday.

  • i am a psn plus user and i am happy with the service but i can see why people are angry i hardly never bought and content on psn store but now i buy everything lol, but if i had already bought before plus i would angry to. My solution to this is sony should giving plus users 25% on any content on the store even psp games and movies, this should make every one happy, if you like this idea help spread the message even to our euro and aisa psn plus users hopeful some one in corporate will and do something about it lol

  • It’s weeks like this that made me wish I had more money…..and….you know…also wish that I was 5 people so I could find the time to play all these games.

And if I wasn’t having a hard enough time choosing between Ateiler Rorona, Dead Rising 2, Front Mission Evolved and Quantum Theory, you guys have to go and throw in a Megaman bundle. I’ve been putting off buying both of those games for a while, but now you’ve taken away any excuses I might have had…

  • i meant to say 25% once a month on entire store that would be nice and econimically do able for sony, and mybe 50% for the holidays if you like idea help spread the word, even to our aisa and euro plus users

  • could you like, go kick Konami’s butt or something to get them to make Castlevania Harmony of Despair on the PS3 please?.

  • ok stop giving it a low rating because what you wanted didnt come out yet. His blog posts are perfect and it had a 3.05 last night.

  • @ 16

im so looking foward to vanquish, i’ll be making alot of gameplay videos for my youtube channel.

  • Another week with no PSOne release? Weak…

Also, no one should buy Dead Rising 2 on PS3. Exclusive content on a multi-platform title is ridiculous. Don’t buy this product.

  • want Warriors of Rock SOOOOOOOOOO bad, but got layed off, so I can’t afford it…

  • Blacklight Tango is down again this Week?

  • What is the hold up on some more good PS1 RPGs? I’ve already completed FF7-9. I would really like it if we could get FF Origins up on PSN or maybe Parasite Eve.

On to the content this week, I’m looking a Swords and Solders and possibly the Mega Man bundle depending on price.

I’m torn, I don’t know if I should buy Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland or if I should just wait till mid Oct and get Fallout: New Vegas.

  • Online co-op for guardian of light? Yes? No?

  • No mention of Blacklight Tango Down? Really?
At least a release date would be nice . . .

  • Fifa 11 is coming out for PS3 on the 28th not JUST PSP…

  • Can someone clarify the whole pushing to ps3 Lara Croft game… nobody responded to the PSPlus questions

  • So does the US PS+ get the AC Brotherhood demo?
One of me EU friends is playing AC Brotherhood and he got it from straight through PS+.

  • Is that Rapala fishing game Move compatible? I heard it was, but haven’t seen anything official one way or the other.

  • all u guys r so retarted i cant stress it enough

  • f***en noobs

  • No Dead Rising 2 demo? I won’t buy that game unless I can try out a demo at least. Or get the DLC the 360 got. Come on Capcom, where is it?

  • What about Flight Control HD? I wanna use my Move for something besides TUmble folks.

  • @42

We won’t get the DLC that 360 got because Capcom said they gave it to the 360 owners as a “present” for having the first game on that console…no matter how you slice it, Capcom has become very pro-360 and anti-PS3. Capcom is pretty much the next Activision…

  • @43

Flight Control HD will NOT be coming to the US PSN. The developer said they were trying really hard to bring it to the US but couldn’t for “legal” purposes. It’s a shame because it looked like a great game to use with the Move.

  • @34

Lara Croft Guardian of Light will NOT have online co-op on its initial release, but will be patched later on with the online co-op feature.

  • So, what will be the price for the MM9+MM10 Bundle? I just bought the MM10 DLC bundle expecting a discount on MM10 in the coming weeks.

  • @47

MM10 is on sale for $4.99 now.

  • @46, thanks for the info but I don’t trust Eidos! Just when I thought I had heard all the odd decisions into releasing a game, here comes another stunner.

  • @49

no prob, yeah it’s a major bummer because the 360 version is getting the online patch tomorrow while we have to wait until probably sometime in October…personally, I think M$ paid them to get timed exclusive online co-op since they released it on 360 first…
