The Drop: Week of September 27, 2010 New Releases

85 7

I hope my absence and the lack of updates on The Drop last week didn’t scare anyone. No need to fear, Sid and I arrived from the Tokyo Game Show unscathed and in one piece (sorta.) Make sure to check out Sid’s interview with Ueda-san on The Last Guardian, and my video interview with the boys behind Dante’s new look and their re-imagining of Devil May Cry.

The Drop returns fashionably late, with quite the ensemble — sporting a Terror is Reality shirt, bowling wrist guards, virtues thongs, Mega Man boots and a Guardian of Light as it’s wing man. Our lavish PlayStation party has the Warriors of Rock headlining, and everyone invited brought their PSPs for a quick game of soccer. Also, don’t mind the air-born Sims, they tend to fly extremely low. Sit, grab a soda and stay a while, we’re just getting started.

PlayStation 3: Dead Rising 2

PlayStation 3

Dead Rising 2 — Like millions of Americans, former national motocross champion Chuck Greene is gripped by the TV sensation that is Terror is Reality. Hosted by the flamboyant Tyrone King, Terror is Reality pits ordinary members of the public against an arena full of zombies with a simple challenge – kill more zombies than your opponents and stay alive with the winner collecting big money and the chance to come back and secure even greater prizes.

Brunswick Pro Bowling — Strap on the wrist guard and roll on accurate oil patterns, earn tons of trophies, and unlock hidden items on your way to winning the world championship. Customize your bowler with genuine Brunswick equipment from bowling balls, shoes, and clothing. PlayStation Move friendly.

Quantum Theory — In this hyper-real action-shooter, players experience Syd and Filena’s adventurous ascent through a treacherous tower, presented in an art nouveau style, merging the beauty of organic motifs with technology and action-packed gameplay.

Front Mission: Evolved — Front Mission Evolved brings the classic Front Mission franchise into an action-packed third-person shooter that gives players full control of a massive humanoid war machine — the Wanzer. Choose from dozens of weapons and parts, including weapons that can be equipped on both hands and shoulders, to customize your Wanzer and blast your way to victory. When you think you’re ready for a new challenge, join the ranks of online pilots for multiplayer battles.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock — Featuring more than 90 tracks that include guitar shredding hits from bands such as Black Sabbath, Megadeth and Slipknot and larger than life anthems from Queen, Muse and KISS. Additionally, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth wrote and recorded “Sudden Death,” an original track for the game, which was inspired by Quest Mode’s storyline. Along with original songs, the set list also includes special re-records by famous artists and tracks from bands that are making their music video game debut.

Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland — The popular alchemic RPG series from Gust makes an evolutionary change with Atelier Rorona. The anime style characters and backgrounds remain, but they have been upgraded with a cell-shaded animation style. The basic game play carries over the tradition of the Atelier series, using alchemy as the main focal point. Like the previous series, players can craft new items and also battle enemies using the power of alchemy.

My Sims: Sky Heroes — Starting as an unknown pilot, players fight to become a celebrated hero as they defeat dangerous enemies in aerial combat, test their reflexes in fast-paced speed challenges, and take on massive enemy bosses that demand all their skills as a pilot to survive. As they progress, players build, customize and tune their aircraft to give them an edge in combat – upgrade wings for swifter maneuvers, switch out the engine for a speed boost, or change the paint job to camouflage the plane and avoid enemy fire.

Rapala Pro Bass Fishing (Also on PSP) — For the first time ever in a fishing game, the competition is set up in a professional tournament structure and the action is presented as a live TV event with announcers (including Barry Brueland, the voice of InFisherman TV), live updates, competitive leader boards, analysis, and final weigh-ins.

PlayStation Network: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

PlayStation Network

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light — Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light showcases an isometric cooperative adventure that aims to deliver instant, intense action and bite-sized puzzles. Follow Lara as she goes in search of the Mirror of Smoke, an ancient artifact located in a ruin known as the Temple of Light. When she finally reaches the mirror, she is ambushed by a mercenary army who takes the mirror and release an evil entity. The Guardian of Light joins Lara as her unlikely ally to save the world from never-ending darkness.

Sword & Soldiers — A side scrolling real time strategy game in which three distinct factions battle for the powers of the gods. The game features a single player campaign and a competitive split-screen multi-player mode as well as several other game modes.

Megaman 9 & Megaman 10 Bundle — Three pellets of energy from your Mega Buster is all you need when Capcom goes double, delivering a bundle of Mega.. men. Game up, I better not see you running and gunning on easy mode, I’m sure you know — Capcom’s blue mascot cannot get a break.

PlayStation Portable: Fifa 11

PlayStation Portable

Fifa Soccer 11 (Also on PS3) — Building on the FIFA 10 gameplay that won 50 sports game of the year awards, FIFA 11 introduces new Pro Passing where pass accuracy is determined by a gamer’s ability on the control pad, and player skill, situation and urgency on the pitch, yielding a deeply rewarding passing system. Plus, a series of new customization tools will enable fans to transform FIFA 11 in new and personally meaningful ways.

  • New PAIN level was due out this week according to the producer’s comment in the official PAIN blog. Guess it slipped. bummer

  • I don’t understand. Why don’t the devs just admit Blacklight tamgo down is canceled, 360’s came out in early early July!! And they say it’s coming it and crap, but it’s Oct.!! Nobodys gaining to buy with games like Black ops.

  • *gonna. And is borderlands any good? Does any one still play it? Thinking about getting it.

  • Happy about FIFA 11. The world cup game was really good but didn’t have a lot of content. Its still fun whooping people online and forcing them to rage quit.

Question: I have my move bundle, what do I use it for? Cos it just sits there.

  • i wonder if we’ll see a demo for the new guitar hero. i cant play disc games cause my bluray wont read disc no more. so only guitar hero i can play is the 4 song van halen demo. id like to see a demo for that to give me some new songs to play.

  • Hey Rey, interesting info anything is always appreciated. I have a question tho. I know Square has been releasing most of their classics on the PSN, but do you have any insight if we will ever see FF Anthology which includes Chrono Trigger, and also looking to see if they will ever drop Xenogears which is pretty awesome. You would think they would even drop the older Front Missions considering the new one is dropping soon. Any insight would be great thanks and keep doing what you do.

  • I thought Might & Magic Clash of Heroes was coming to PSN in September?

  • Thanks for the response Rey. So I’m guessing “The Drop” is just a preview the PS Store post? Then why not do the drop the friday before? There’s really no point…

    • The PS Store post includes updates to the ENTIRE store (Avatars, Demos, Add-Ons, Wallpapers, etc). The Drop focuses on just games.

  • @53

Borderlands is a great game. It’s an RPG/FPS mix. I’d talk it up to u but it’d be better to check some gameplay vids. If anything it made the Greatest Hits roster and the Knoxx DLC was top downloaded for quite some time.

  • No mention of Get Fit With Mel B?

  • @45 I’m sorry to hear that….The game looked like a lot of fun.

But I do appreciate you taking the time to let me know about that. (so im not hoping for it each and every week).

  • @15
Thanks, I thought about it before I posted but I didn’t. Since it worked for you I guess i’ll try it.

  • Where’s echochrome ii? that was supposed to have a September release and now this is the last release week in September and its just not being mentioned like we wouldn’t notice.

Other than that nothing too interesting this week. Well, my girlfriend likes Sims and has enjoyed Mysims in the past, so we might end up getting that sometime.

  • Hey does Two Worlds 2 come out next week? The lack of official word when it comes out is getting annoying. :(

  • And there are 2 imports releasing this week, Outlaws of the lost dynasty and Magical drop F. $5.99 price and $3 for PS+ users. Alien breed was coming out tmw for $14.99 and 25% off of that for PS+ users but it will be releasing on the 5th instead

  • looks good.

  • Is Pro Fishing Playstation Move friendly?

  • @ Rey. Outlaws of the lost dynasty and Magical drop F imports. Are they not games?

  • Looking forward to FIFA Soccer 11.

    Gooooooaaaaallllllll!!!!!!!
    Always loved FIFA Soccer.

EA Sports it’s in the game :)

  • Remake Final Fantasy VII. Use voice actors(YOU HAVE THEM CAST ALREADY IN FF-ADVENT CHILDREN) and the same developers that made FF-XIII with it’s awesome look/feel but shallow and cheesy/cheap PLOT/STORY.

    YOU WILL BREAK RECORD SALES.

    lmk.

  • I find it truly insulting to everyone who supports PS3 that Capcom is pulling an ‘activision’ on us..I’ll never buy another Capcom title, not that I really liked them to begin with. Taking RE and making a “Gold Version” instead of just releasing a move patch, forcing people who already purchased RE5 to purchase RE5 ALL OVER again, just to simply have Move compatibility — that’s absurd. If all of these other publishers/devs could patch their games, then Captivision could’ve done the same…
Then they pulled that Xbox360 crap…and that’s just a whole other story…rewarding people who “made them popular”…they don’t see past the last year or so I guess. Not the first-or last time that Sony gets shafted by some money-hungry studio. *Cough*EA*cough.

  • waiting for a review on the Front Mission.

  • @Glacier928: I’ll check the store. Figurerd that only the DLC was on sale for $4.99.

  • @EdEN_Zardos

Yeah, for some reason it wasn’t under the “special offers” tab but if you searched for MegaMan10, the game showed up for $4.99

  • Need more 3d releases please. 1st person shooter would be awsome in 3d!!

  • will we ever get megaman 9 & 10 on the store for PSP users??

  • Amyone who keeps complaing about blackLight tango down, the game is just terrible and is not worthy of anybody complaining about its release

  • Where is the Borderlands DLC “Claptraps New Robot Revolution?” I still don’t see it on PSN Central Time Zone.

  • When do we stop reading things that aren’t true? First ModNation Racers Gopher, at least two weeks now and Borderlands 4th DLC was supposed to be released today.

  • And I forgot AirRaid was supposed to be on Playstation Store this week too. I still don’t see it either!

  • hey you posted that fifa 11 for psp would be out on the psn store and i went and bought 2 psn cards to buy it and now its not on there and i dont want to use the cards unless its going for fifa 11..is it going to be up late or wats going on?

  • I have been experiencing problems with PSN since the last update/maintenance. When I turn my PS3 on it tells me an error has occured and I don’t sign in, but when I do it manually it’s fine. Then, about every time I start a game it also tells me an error has occured and signs me out. When I sign back in, its fine for a second but then again it says an error has occured and signs me out. I sign in 5-6 more times, then the error message, before it stop and I can play.
    Has anyone else experienced this?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
YES iam having this problem also i unplugged everything and now i can sign in it worked for an hour but no when i play a game online it signs me out every couple mins, then i sign back in and it says timed out so i try again then i get the error code, but now im signed in again ill try to play COD right now well its working now but that singing in and out just happened to me today but for the past 3 days i couldnt even sign in
