The Drop: Week of Sept 6th, 2010 New Releases

97 0

Any fan of Disney, Final Fantasy and RPGs are more then familiar with the Kingdom Hearts series. Sadly, being a fan of all three — I am not. With my upcoming travels to Japan next week to cover Tokyo Game Show 2010, I’m looking forward to jumping head first into Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on my PSP to help pass the time on my long flight. Gamers with schizophrenia, and a lack of arachnophobia will be web-slinging on their PlayStation 3 when Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions hatches this week as well.

PlayStation fans can also put their hockey and MMA skills to the test when they’re given the chance to body check or guillotine their opponents in the rink or the octagon. The PlayStation Network and PlayStation minis also have some neat releases in the second dimension of gaming with galactic and terrain exploration. Come hither Keyblade Masters for this week’s The Drop.

Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions

Spider-Man attempts to retrieve a piece of a tablet that’s been scattered across multiple parallel dimensions, and in doing so he crosses over to storylines famous to comic book aficionados as variant tellings of the Spider-Man mythology.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2 Plunge into explosive environments where you can become elite aerial soldiers in control of the world’s most technologically advanced aircraft. You will have the chance to control pilots trained to use cutting edge technology in aerial warfare missions.

Controlling the action using views that range seamlessly from the heart of the battlefield to the full theatre of war, players will be plunged into the action thanks to the exclusive IRISZOOMTM Engine which offers an intuitive interface.

NHL 11 Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the franchise, NHL 11 aims to to raise the bar yet again for hockey fans. With a real-time physics engine that brings a realism to the franchise, gameplay innovations — like broken sticks and a revamped face-off system — as well as the addition of the Canadian Hockey League, NHL 11 promises to be the most complete hockey videogame ever created.

PlayStation Network

TerRover TerRover’s gameplay is based on navigating a terrain rover through over forty stages of puzzling arcade levels in five different 2-D art styles including the icy vistas of Congelata. TerRover features three local multiplayer modes for up to four people, leaderboards and PlayStation Network trophies.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

PlayStation Portable

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep A tale of a new trio of heroes, told across three scenarios utilizing the technology of the PSP. With new features introduced on top of the traditional controls, game system, and visual style of its predecessors. Before Sora took up the Keyblade, there were other Keyblade masters. One of these masters, Xehanort, disappeared one day along with his apprentice. This event proved to be a foreshadowing of great disaster to come. Aware of the threat, another master ordered his three apprentices to seek out Xehanort and his cohort.

UFC Undisputed 2010 Players manage Octagon control with a variety of strikes, submissions, transitions, cage positions and more. In addition, players will have customizable freedom with created fighters by combining move sets from numerous MMA disciplines to become true mixed martial artists.

Ace Armstrong vs. the Alien Scumbags!

PlayStation minis

Ace Armstrong vs. the Alien Scumbags! This is a fast-paced horizontally scrolling shooter with a unique, slapstick take on the best of 50s and 60s sci-fi movies and cartoons. The game features a unique weapons system: instead of collecting power-ups, Ace must down enemies using the incredible power of the Recyl-o-Ray! before turning the Scumbags’ own weapons against them!

  • looks like a good setup for the upcoming week, but what about the psone classics?
just want to have something oldschool to look forward to if it would not be much of a bother.

  • just a question, but does playstation move come out same day as the US one?

  • Hey guys,

Could you confirm if KH:BBS be available thru the PSN? It just says PSP here.

  • Rey, why ain’t you still doing things for dtoid? was that just a stepping stone for that upgrade to sony controlled news?

thats a shame, i really liked your videos and now you don’t have a voice except the one sony gives you.

  • kh:bbs will not be on the psn when it gets released at least for now

  • Can’t wait pick up my copy of NHL 11 just preorder last Tuesday :). Plus I just preorder Eye Pet all at gamestop let’s see if Eye Pet show up on 7:) I let you people know.

  • nothing exciting for me…damn that sucks…

  • I’m upset to the fact Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep not coming to PSN for available download for my PSPgo, but I do have a PSP 1000 but the point of me buying the Go was to replace it which is working out till now.

I find it a little irritating, and also when I had my PSP 1000 I still prefered downloading my games, so buying a Go! I wouldn’t lose the games I downloaded, which I hope near future you make this game available because I’m not buying this on UMD.

  • Does Ace Combat Joint Assault come to the PSN this week? It didn’t come out with last week’s release.

  • I’m pretty sure KH:BBS is UMD only. And since it’s probably not on the Japanese PSN still, I don’t think it’ll be on the US PSN either.

  • No Valkyria Chronicles 2 (which I still need to buy -_-) to pass the time on your trip? Speaking of TGS, SEGA is making an obvious tease for a new VC so hopefully the Blog can cover that.

  • when does sports champions come out is it the 7

  • Kingdom Hearts is a sure fire pick up for me. I’m also leaning towards Spider-Man also, but I’d really like to see a review first.

Like many of you guys, I know a bunch of Move games are dated to ship on 9/7, meaning they could be in stores as early as 9/8. Hopefully, someone from the blog staff can clear this up.

I’m really confused with the the Move launch. Games are dated to hit stored before the peripheral itself does. Also, while Sony clearly mentioned 9/19 as the launch date as far back as E3, a LOT of stores are saying 9/17 now. My gut tells me to go with the official word from Sony. With something as huge as the move, I highly doubt stores got the okay to release the stuff early.

Hopefully, the PS Blog crew sees this, and can clarify for all of us.

I’m set for Playstation Move and eagerly awaiting to get my hands on it. I’m just puzzled as to exactly when that will be.

  • @CH1N1T0

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is only available for UMD. Square Enix specifically said they had no intentions of bringing it to the PSN.

  • Square & Disney can burn down bottom. I hope it spreads all over the net more than anyone buys it. Don’t think it won’t be cracked to play on all firmware. The underground is always one step ahead of you people.

You guys should’ve just released it on PSN and gained sales for a bit rather than a dead format which makes it so much easier to pirate, geniuses.

  • I’d like to know which existing psn games will be patched for Move compatibility. I know that that pool game, and mini golf game are, but what else is?

  • Kingdom Hearts: BbS is a HUGE buy for me.

  • damn… why kh don´t going tobe sale on psn?

  • surely TerRover isn’t the only PSN release. when will we get that Shatter update/DLC? and Sam & Max Seasons 1 & 2? … and what about Scarecrow’s brain??

  • Hey Rey. Good work. Never tried out the Kingdom Hearts series, but interested to give it a try too. Just a note, you should have than instead of then in your first sentence. If you don’t care, sorry to bring it up.

  • “Ace Armstrong vs. the Alien Scumbags!”

I’m pretty sure that’s the first game with the word “scumbags” in the title. Instant buy for the name alone.

  • September is gonna be slow for me, until Enslaved comes out in October.

  • id really love to see Chrono Cross released as a PSOne classic!

  • Definitely getting Shattered Dimensions, as I am a big Spider-Man fan. Who thinks Beenox has done a great job so far?

  • BOO to Square-Enix!!!!

PSP owners are very DISAPPOITED about KH for PSN is not coming!

  • as a pocket gamer who wonder about the environment, i will not but kingdom heart until they go green, by the way, i own the psp 3000.

  • @those who answered my question
Thanks a bunch.. Oh well, complaining won’t make things different. Might as well just get it.

  • I actually do have arachnophobia, but Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is still gonna be a day 1 buy for me.

  • Hopefully we can get Kingdom Hearts on PSN along with other Square Enix PSP games and PS1 games. Those old RPGs are really great in the portable, digital format!

  • Kingdom Hearts!

    YAY! :)

  • I really wish Kingdom Hearts would come out on PSN:( I have a PSP 3000 but it is so much better gettting the full games from the PSN store then to switch back and forth with those old and slow UMD discs all the time. The PSP is perfect for digital content.

  • The fact KH:BbS isn’t on PSN is just more reason for me to not buy it. I’m not about to sit here and sit through stupid load times cause they want you to do an even less appealing install. Install at most would have probably been more than 1/3rd of the game itself. Totally pointless to not release it on PSN since it would still load faster than that install. Not buying this since SE can’t make good decisions.

  • COME ON!!! Make KH Birth By Sleep available on the PSN!!

  • for those complaining about lack of pspgo support, i completely understand your painful dilemma. thankfully i did not waste that huge sum of cash on a system they pretty much refuse to support all the way around. i have the same problem when it comes to psone classics, i mean how many bargain bin games have they released? 3 times this year have they released something really good by my estimates, then when they release that 1 good game, they turn around and make us sit and wait 3-5 weeks before we get another psone game. sometimes people just want games not all the hoopla sony, please listen to us.

  • So, Birth By Sleep is a no-PSPgo, eh?

  • Wow! Spiderman is releasing this week?

Is Chrono Cross ever be released for psn?
I want to play that master piece once more…

  • Please release KH BBS on the PSN

as a psp GO owner, and a normal PSP user, I really want to play BBS digitally

  • Is Phantasy Star Portable 2 coming out on the Playstation Store for sure?

And is it going to be $39.99 or $44.99…

  • It’s not Sony’s fault, idiot.

It’s Disney, that doesn’t want its game released digitally.

  • Go to Microsoft and its diminishing number of exclusives.

NHL 11 this week! Can’t wait.

  • … Lots of people knew. They didn’t release the game on the JP Playstation Store a year ago on the PS Store because Disney didn’t want it to be released like that. They thought the UMDs were protective enough.

  • Lol. Kids like you make me laugh.

KH: BBS won’t be on the Playstation Store. Live with it. Or cry like a little baby and go running to mommy.

  • Someone seriously ban this asshat already.

  • Wait a sec! R.U.S.E and NHL 11 on the same week?

Man. Way too man games this fall.

  • It’s my first time commenting here actually, FYI.

PMCed? That’s a new word to add to my dictionary.

  • kh2 i think you seriously need to just contact the BBB and file a complaint through them. then at that point sony would not want the worldwide humiliation they would receive. imagine this blog only gets through to people associated with sony and its gaming community. the BBB isviewed by everybody out there consumer wise.
the people that run this blog will not even give credence to what you say, and to top it off many people will be extremely irritable by so many rants. think about it, go over their heads and they have to act upon your behalf or face massive fines from the government, when it comes to a product bought from them that keeps breaking down on you.

  • it would fall onto something called the lemon law that is if you kept all of the repair receipts. just chill and use a cool head and you will see action on your behalf.

  • LOL the little girl went to sleep, Hell be back tomorrow, thats for sure ;), with new Diapers!!! XD

  • Looking forward to Kingdom Hearts

  • Why blame Sony? It’s not their fault. Ask SE about it.
