1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10

  • I’ve been interested in delving into the series for a long time now. It looks like it has some interesting game mechanics and a lot of variety.

  • Love the Persona series and being able to play it on the go is awesome. Mostly, I’m interested in playing as the female protagonist and the different S-link’s you get playing as her. :3

  • I’m looking forward to diving back into Gekkoukan’s hallways with the perspective of a female protagonist. Now I just have to think of a good name to use!

  • I’m just finishing up MGS Peace Walker and am so pumped for another game for my psp. I haven’t got so much content out of a game in so long like I have the Persona series. I think I’m going to go listen to the original soundtrack for P3. Good luck everyone!

  • I’m looking forward to the new dialogue further linking to Persona 4. Here’s hoping for hints at future expansion within this universe, because I can’t get enough of these wonderful characters.

  • Definately the hat.
But all of the new features are something I’m excited for as well. The new Social Links (YES! JUNPEI!), finally getting to control party members like in P4, new soundtrack (cough), and it helps that the new girl character’s really cute.
I preordered this game as soon as it was announced and bought it twice before. I am so ready.

  • I already own this game on PS2, but I’d buy it again on PSP. I can never get enough Persona.

And the music is great. Except the second school song…you know the one I’m talking about.

  • Playing through Persona 3 on PS2 and being able to choose who my friends were, choosing which team I had, and controlling virtually every aspect of how I played (I ALWAYS had a bow equipped :D) made me fall in love with the game. Then, I loaned the game to my friend and watched him play and he chose completely different friends, a team nothing like mine, and played in a very different way. I was astounded that a game could give so much diversity, yet stay on the story line, and still be just as fun!

So, Being able to play this game on the go, re-visiting the story that I fell in love with, and being able to play side-by-side with my best friend will definitely be one of the BEST gaming experiences I can imagine!

  • I can be a girl!

  • The music is by far the most entertaining in any rpg and can’t wait to walk and play while listing to those beats. And Sony I must say congrats on being the only ones with shin’s wonderful games and i hope the next will come to PS3 i have been waiting!!

  • Well, so far I own every Persona and Shin Megami game that has been released over here and Persona 3 Portable would be a great way of recreating the first time I popped in Persona 3 into my PS2 and how I later bought Persona 3 FES ASAP to continue my adventure. The hat doesn’t hurt either and the fact that it’s a portable version is great since I usually do most of my gaming on the go.

And thanks to Atlus for their great customer service and support for their fans. My soundtracks, artbooks, nick nacks and plush thank you for it as do all the great games that would otherwise not have been released here (3D Dot Game Heroes says hi).

  • Looking forward to playing it on the go, and listening to Mr. Meguro’s awesome music in-game. Digital Devil Saga is still one of my favorite soundtracks of his! Already got the game paid off!

  • I can’t wait to take my favorite RPG of all time on the road with me this summer!

  • I’m a big fan of Persona 3 and the music is quite unique and relevant to the game.

I listen to the music every now and then and the story is very luring once you get to the good parts…

I would love to win one of the signed soundtracks…which would be NICE!! Please sign me up!!!

  • pogostickfrenzy

First, I’d say that this is a PSP purchase inspiring game…but first I need to go out and get the said PSP. This and Metal Gear.

Second, I absolutely love Persona, since my first experience on PSOne… And these most recent games have been the best RPGS pretty much ever, and for me, they are my favorite games.

Third, I’m a professional musician, and the music is just awesome. Gives me inspiration, and I love to play the game songs I figure out…

  • What am I excited for? EVERYTHING! My cousin first got me into the Persona series around the time Persona 3 came out on the PS2. I was hooked right away. The characters, the gameplay, the graphics, and the music. It all hit me. I loved it so much I bought Persona 4 as soon as I could get my grubby little hands on it and played it for hours. My cousin and I wanted to play it so badly the two of us fought over who was going to play when. Admittedly she beat the game before me, and while I was not present to see the ending so I’m definitely going to one-up her this time.

I can’t wait to be able to take this game to work with me so I can spend every spare minute I get playing it! I’m excited to show off my Junpei cap too! I’m so eager to get my hands on this I think I might explode from excitement!

  • Im really looking forward the female lead to see all the different social bonds I have to develop, also the enhanced battle system from P4, also the Junpei hat lol. Keep up the good work Atlus your doing better than other companies making the fans happy before their pockets!!……also PERSONA 2 REMAKE!!!!!!

  • I instantly went to pre-order this game when I first heard about it, since I got it to the series thanks to my cousin(P3FES) and now I can take it on the go. Playing as a female protagonist and how they connect P4 into this is going to be epic. What I’m most excited about is the music and how I’ll get to listen to those awesome BGMs again.

  • Being able to beat margaret and elizabeth in the same game, and maybe filling in some loose ends are probably what i look forward to!

  • Persona 3 is one of my favorite games and I can’t wait to play it again on the PSP. I am most exicited about the new social links that have been added because it allows me to interact with other characters more. The addition of the female protagonist and her new social links feels like I am getting two games for the price of one.

  • I’m really looking forward to P3P. I loved the original and FES and I’m sure that the portable version will be as great as they were. The music was definitely catchy and the design was pleasing to the eyes. I’m also glad that, once again, Atlus has given us something new to experience in the form of a new Protagonist.

All in all, this is going to be a great game, and a nice addition to the Persona series.

  • DakkenBlackblade

I’m most excited to explore the new female protagonist’s dialogue choices to see how uncomfortable I can make the other girls in the game.

I suspect she and Junpei will get along juuust fine.

  • I want Persona 3 on PSP mostly because you can play as a girl. The male protagonists probably were sick of being named my female name.

  • I am really looking forward to playing this in widescreen on my TV, since I really wish that Persona 3, 4, (and upcoming 5) were made for HD :)

  • looking forward to see how different the games social links are when u play as a female mc and the music is awesome!

  • I’m most excited about losing hundreds of hours of sleep by playing this game :D

  • I love Shoji Meguro’s music!!! It got me through my all-nighters in college. I can’t wait to listen to P3P’s new tracks. And if there aren’t any…I’d look forward to the fun times dating Koromaru.

  • persona 3 was one of the most unique games on the playstation 2, cant beleive it holds up so well on the PSP. who needs the 3DS when psp can pull off games like this. cant wait to see the new social links, female roles, personas, etc. Oh and having the ability to control my team like in persona 4 is freakin awesome.

    cant wait!

  • All of the things that made persona 4 just slightly better (mostly controlling teammates) put into persona 3 which has a better story, soundtrack, and better dungeon (Tartarus). Persona 3, which is already an amazing game, just got an upgrade and I’m predicting it will be far better than it was before.

  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This is the BEST THING to happen to the PSP! ELEVATE YOUR GAME!

  • Simply the fact that I can play it while on the road to another state. Cool 10 hours drives. I’ve been playing Persona 4 so I’m really looking forward to this. I somehow never really got around to playing it!

    Also HAT.

  • Do I only have to pick one? Heck, I bought the original when it came out, bought FES when it was released, and I’m still looking forward to playing this day one.

I’m looking forward to seeing the way the female MC social links work, and definitely looking forward to braving Tartarus while being able to control all my characters. Finally Mitsuro will let me prevent her from constantly casting Marin Karin.

Most of all, I look forward to wearing the awesome hat, channeling Junpei with every step I make.

  • It’s exciting because this is one of the greatest and most innovative RPGs ever made. Add to the fact that they brought on many game play enhancements that make the experience fresh for, not only newcomers, but existing fans of the game as well. Now with the ability to play as a female protagonist and also with the ability to control all characters in your party, it adds to the game’s replay value and more depth to the battle system. Bring it on!

  • I never finished P3, so a portable version might just be the push I need to make it all the way through this lengthy RPG.

  • What I’m most looking forward to about P3P is the fact that it’s portable. I own the original, but I don’t play it. I’m sure to play the game if it’s displayed between my thumbs!

  • P3P on the go? Win.

  • I look forward to dressing up as a Japanese school girl while I play.

  • I’m looking forward to my wife leaving me alone about how much she wants to play through the Akihiko s link.

  • Persona is one of my favorite game series. I started with P2: EP(it was my first playstation game) and then moved on to the first one when I found a copy at the store. When Persona 3 first came out I was really excited for it. It had been years since there was a new one and I’d written of that particular SMT side branch as a loss. But when I started to play P3 a lot of the mechanics ended up leaving me cold. I liked the ideas but the implementation was a little buggy. Then later on some of that got fixed in FES, which in my opinion made the game infinitely more playable.

P4 on the other hand felt like an upgrade of the same ideas. Like all the things I liked in 3 got properly polished. So I’m really looking forward to the PSP P3 release since I’m sure that this iteration will be even better than FES. That and the choice of main characters gender is going to be a lot of fun.

  • The creation of SEES All-Female-Battle-Maid-Team. That’s what I look forward to the most.

  • Two things, awesome hat as a preorder, and the fact that I’ll be wearing that hat while I play on the go. That explains the portable part, now I just have to figure out that station part… Russian spies possibly?

  • After playing P3 and since I have been playing P4, I can’t friggin wait to go back to this story but with the combat system from P4. Also, I really do miss that music. This was one of the few game soundtracks that I actually seeked out after I played the game.

  • I look forward to the great characters and the revolutionary game play ON THE GO!

  • I’m highly excited about everything in this game!
Being able to replay the old scenario with new scenes and characters and being able to experience the game as the new female protagonist with new S-Links are the most interesting of course.
The new music, manually controlled characters and every other change/addition also make me excited about going back to the world of P3.

  • I’m lookin forward to more opportunities for people to ask “Hey whatcha playin?” And then I get to say… “This really cool game where I make a bunch of high school kids shoot themselves in the head… Oh, no its not what you think… I have to do that in order to summon the demons.”
…and the hat. The hat is dope.

  • I’m looking forward to both the new female main character and the hearing the original voice actors deliver brand new lines as part of the new story elements.

  • Persona 3 Portable! Woo! I’m looking forward to playing as the new female protagonist to see how the story is told from the new perspective and listening to the new tracks. I’m also looking forward to replaying the male perspective because I’m told that there are some changes in that as well. All in all, I’m psyched!

P3 and P4 were some of the best RPGs I’ve played in a LONG while and having P3 on a portable is truly an awesome idea.

  • I will never take that hat off.

  • I would burn my bread if i could get my hands on that soundtrack, that aside, I don’t have enough money to pre order the game, which means, no Junpei hat for me ):

  • Looking forward to the new features and am glad that party control is left up to the player this time. Bought it twice already and enjoyed it both times and this 3rd rendition of it excites me the most. Looking forward to it.
