Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.
“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?
10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.
Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:
- a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
- b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.
In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”
Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!
“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.
We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.
We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Persona 2, 3 and 4 were some of my favorite games during the PSone and PS2 eras, so practically remaking the game for a system I can have on the go is like a dream come true. My most anticipated feature in the new game is by far the female selection. I want to see how playing as the female character will differ from playing as the male (many social links and such). Also here’s hoping for a Persona HD Collection for the PS3 :D
I am most excited to try out the new storyline with the female lead role. I’ve been hawking this series to many friends as well as forum goers over on the PlayStation.com Forums ever since the original P3 released. I cannot wait for another release of the best RPG to hit the PS2.
I’m really excited for this. I’ve been playing through Strange Journey non-stop to get used to SMT on a handheld. Plus Persona 3 is one of my favorites in the series, second only to Nocturne really. But with all of the new feature and the battle system from P4 it might overtake that spot haha.
Definitely has to be the ability to take one of the best games I’ve ever played, anywhere.
The main reason I cannot wait for this game to come to PSP is because I love playing it for hours on end, but I am not always at home. I travel a lot with my job, and having something on my PSP Go so I can play and zone out in such the great way. After conquering this game completely on PS2 and then again when FES edition came out, I look forward to playing this, and perhaps even a redux of persona 4 as well.
Simple: a great game is no longer confined to your living room. It can be brought anywhere!
Persona 3 is my favorite PS2(my favorite console of all time) game(after Persona 4), so why am I excited about my 2nd favorite PS2 game coming out on PSP?
Did I answer that already? No? Allow me to!
Of course, the psp version needed new stuff for me to buy the same game for the 3rd game(Persona 3 and FES), and what do you know, it has enough of it.
Playing with the female MC will bring forth new social links, which is already a big plus, since it’s a big part of the game. I need to mention her soundtrack as well, it sounds marvelous.
Controlling your party members as we could in Persona 4 is also a very welcomed feature. Thanks to it, Mitsuru will finally stop using Marin Karin every other chances she gets.
Now the only thing that would excite me more is Persona 5 on PS3.
I plan to spread the good word of the Persona series to all I can since, as it so happens, a TV, power source, and ps2 (fat) are relatively hard to carry around. Persona 3 spoke to me as a high school student in finding some sense of identity and hopefully will change me all the more as a college student.
I love Persona 3! It’s probably my favorite game of all time and the soundtrack is amazing! The thing I’m looking forward to the most for P3P is probably just being able to have another reason to replay the game and also to be able to play through as female MC, which should be interesting. I love P3!!!!
I have been wanting to start Persona 3 over just to play through it again, but when I heard that Persona Portable was coming out and there is a playable female main character, it blew my mind. As a girl, I would love to answer questions as I really would and not try to think about what a guy would say like I did the first time around. I’m also rather excited about Junpei’s hat!
My friend bought the game for Playstation 2 a while ago. I borrowed it and fell in love with the game. I enjoyed the unique battle system and the characters of the game. I’m pretty psyched about the PSP release and plan to get it. Can’t wait to try the new female protagonist.
I have yet to even play P3, but I do own both copies of the game. I have only played Revelations Persona, Persona 2: IS and EP, and I truly enjoy them. Although not my most favorite series/franchise, their stories and characters have been the most interesting story I yet to encounter in a video game.
Even tI’m really eager to get my copy of P3P this Tuesday. If not for anything else, it just so I could have a hard copy in my possession for collecting(not to mention I don’t even own a psp, but that didn’t stop me from buying SMT: Persona).
I’m most excited to have such a great excuse to relive one of the most engaging RPGs I’ve ever played. While the soundtrack is easily my favorite part, it’s the combination of that with the lovable cast, slick sense of style, twisted storyline, and addicting gameplay that made Persona 3 so memorable. Can’t wait to relive the joy that I had with the original version, and be able to play it wherever to boot!
I’ll be buying it, I enjoyed P3, but I never beat it. I’ve beaten 1,2 and 4 so now I’ll complete them all!
Because instead of only being able to carry around the greatest soundtrack of all time, now I can have the entire game in my pocket. I can’t imagine when I’ll need to buy another handheld game.
PERSONAlly, I’m excited about everything. The music is great and Shoji Meguro is my favorite composer in the video game industry. The gameplay was awesome in terms of a social sim/rpg mix. The battle system is great (and having it more like the P4 version makes me double excited), and social links are amazing side stories that really advances story telling in gaming. The characters are also great. Like Akihiko, who is seriously my best friend, or Yuko from the social links. The art style from Atlus is always great and adds to the anime feeling. The story amazed me as I was playing through it on the PS2. Lastly, the addition of a girl MC and her own twists to the story adds a lot of re-playability.
Claiming to be excited for this game by blindly pointing to a list of discrete aspects would be an exercise in futility.
Persona 3 is a combination of various intricacies, melding its components together seamlessly and brilliantly to create what is, by far, the best video game I have ever played. Of course the characters are memorable. Of course the gameplay is some of the most compelling I’ve ever seen. Of course the story is fascinatingly dark and allegorical in nature.
The true highlight of Persona 3 is far more than the sum of its parts. The story complements the gameplay, which complements the story, and this vicious but beautiful cycle continues endlessly. As the characters of Persona 3 use their Evokers to draw out their Personas, the game itself acts as an Evoker to the audience, drawing out emotional realizations of one’s true self as they connect with the characters and plot.
And I get an opportunity to experience this adventure again, with new content, improved gameplay, and portability? Why wouldn’t I be excited?
Looking forward to the new content and seeing the great job they did bringing it to my favorite portable gaming system (the only one I really use anymore) the PSP.
In all honesty. The thing I’m most excited for in p3p is actually playing through the game with shinjiro alive in your party. I was so sad when he died in the original p3. :( He was such an awsome senpai and one of my favorite characters. It’ll be interesting to see how the story plays out with shinji in your roster!!
I’m pretty excited to play Persona 3 again(I played the original and FES when they came out) but honestly I’m more curious, and excited, about the new things being added in such as the female scenario, all the new S. Links, the ability to control your characters a la Persona 4, and, of course, all the new music to be heard. Shoji Meguro has yet to disappoint me and I’m sure this won’t be an exception.
Its really awesome one of my favorite RPGs is getting the portable treatment. I know a lot of people weren’t able to experience either Persona 3 or FES in all of its glory, and P3P just makes it all the more sweeter to go back to Tartarus during The Dark Hour and take out some Shadows.
I bought a PSP the day P3P was announced for the US. P3 is one of my favorite games of all time and one of the few games I can keep coming back to again and again and still fully enjoy it the same as the first time. I’m excited for all the new features P3P offers but probably most excited just for the excuse to play through one of the greatest RPGs again.
There are so many reasons why I am excited for the port or P3P. Being able to play it on the go as well as the new scenarios are only part of the reason I love Persona 3, I am actually the most excited for the new music that has been created for the new path for the female MC.
I’m mostly looking forward to the Female Protagonist’s story differences. Also as a long time Persona fan, since the original Revelations: Persona, I’m alway stoked to see a new Persona game.
On a side note I’d like to agree with this article because I’m a huge fan of the music. I went even as far as buying the live concert DVD because I loved P3 and 4’s tunes.
I’ve longed for the day when you could control your party members in P3(similar to P4). So I’m interested in how much the difficulty changed, as I easily got to level 100 and therefore easily killed the endboss. I’m also interested in the female main character and how she’ll change the storyline/personas/social links.
I love the persona music, I am still rocking out to my Persona 4 soundtrack in my car all the time. I am so excited for this game!
What am i most excited about P3P?
Well its going to finally make me sure the PSP was worth the money i spent so long ago, It’s going to make me want to leave the house to not feel guilty playing it and its supporting the people who brought us Demon’s Souls so how could i go wrong
What I’m most excited about P3P, that’s a very easy question to answer. First and foremost the ability to play a female character and see all the changes that it will bring to the game from different social links to the story changes. Also I can’t forget the ability to control all the characters which will make it easier to tackle the new hard difficulty maniac. And of course playing a well made game with beautiful music (Which I would love a CD of, wink wink) Yes, I’m very exited to revisited the Persona 3 universe.
The fact that we getting a PERSONA game alone is enough for me to get excited like a school girl! Played both PERSONA games on PS2 which are awesome! More content and fact that it portable is the icing on the cake! PERSONA’s new home is the PSP thou, PERSONA on PS3 would make me pass out!!!!
I’m looking forward to playing this game for the first time(on the go even!) and the addition of a new character is… intriguing to say the least, adds a lot more replay value to an already cool (awesome-looking and replay-centric*) game!
*It IS an RPG after all. Fact.
Having played Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES *and* Persona 4 to death on the PS2, the ability to take it on the go is a huge deal. Especially since I have to spend a lot of down time on the bus during the week.
Oh my God there isn’t anything that i’m not looking forward to… I was so excited about this game that i bought the Japanese version and beat it… I cant wait to see what the dialogue will be for the female protagonist. Also I can’t wait to be able to take this beauty with my… My P3 Fees has over 200 hours clocked into it… and this game set me and my friends on the SMT track
I’m most anticipating seeing Mitsuru, Akihiko, Yukari, and the others through new eyes! I loved the game so much the first two times through, and I’m eagerly anticipating going through it again. Especially with the gameplay improvements from P4!
I’m excited about the extra game-play, new female protagonist, battle system similar to Persona 4’s, and it being on the portable system.
It’s just exciting to finally have Persona 3 on a handheld device. Also, the fact that i’ve never beat the game even though i bought both vanilla and fes partially motivates me to buy this.
I could say a BUNCH of things that I’m excited about, but I’ll just say one or two.
I guess, I’m more excited about being a female protagonist. Not only that, but the background music changes depending on the character apparently. I like how each of the soundtracks fit the character’s personality, so I’m really looking forward to hearing the music while fighting Shadows in Tartarus~
I’m so glad P3P is coming out for the PSP, I had p3 for Playstation 2 and I really enjoyed it until I lost it during a move, I can’t wait to play this version, P3 was my first RPG game I ever played and now I’m hooked, Great job Atlus keep up the good work!
I’m NOT excited that they are taking out the cutscenes and not just making new ones for the girl, that being said, im still buyin! XD
Looking forward to getting the game :D Even though i still haven’t gotten around to finishing FES and Persona 4 XD
The thing I’m looking forward to about P3P the most is just playing it at all! It will be my first crack at Persona 3, and it looks like I’ll be playing the best version, can not wait! :)
Im excited because its going to be the first Persona i play for myself. Right now im watching the endurance run on Persona 4 and the game is amazing. Cant wait to play each one in the series.
I most look forward to playing this great all over again, on the go, as a girl. :P
I’m most looking forward to playing the game as a female. The new social links and even old scenarios well add lots of fun the game.
The original Persona 3 (well FES) on PS2 really got me into the SMT games. When I heard that not only was it going to become portable, but was adding an additional character, as well as tweaks to combat, pre-ordering quickly followed.
Hopefully this also means the soundtrack will be available independent of the drawing, I’d love to be able to pick this up without importing.
There is NOTHING that I am not excited about. I giggled for a good twenty minutes back when P3P was announced. Then I told everyone I knew. They, foolishly, pointed out that I already owned Persona 3 and FES, so I didn’t need it on the PSP. I REJECT THEIR LOGIC. The female storyline, the updated battle system, the addition of more social links, and everything that leads to further OCD joy of doing every single little thing possible (no matter the blood, sweat, tears, and controller rage); all of it is exciting! Beyond worth it. I’m going to put my PSP in a baggie so I can play P3P while showering. This game is NEEDED.
I loved the music from Persona 3 and Persona 4 and I haven’t listened to the new songs from P3P as not to spoil myself too much. Playing a female is going to be AWESOME. I cannot wait to date all the males in Persona 3 and I am already wondering if the maxed out social links will be as questionable as before. Oh yes and the P4 battle system. Awesome awesome strategy is going to be happening.
The better question to ask would be, “What aren’t you excited about?”
Back when Persona 3 first came out, I had vowed then that if this wonderful game ever became portable, that I’d have to buy it. I’ve played through both P3 and FES multiple times, and I haven’t had nearly enough of the story.
I GET TO PLAY AS A GIRL! I get to meet new people! Seriously, I can date some of the male SEES members? Oh man, I wonder if there are any other social links that I can date, like how the male protagonist could also date Chihiro or Yuko.
All of the social links are so well written… and on the girl’s side we’ll see a few new ones, like Saori.
ALSO, I’ve heard rumors of Persona 4 cameos. Oh man, oh man, I was so psyched when I saw Chihiro in Persona 4, I wonder who we’ll see from that game?
All of this, and I get to be portable~! The luxury of laying down or going outside while playing… Ahh~! It’s all too great!
I wonder if there will be new dating options for the male side…? The replay value is endless! Plus, I get a nifty Junpei hat for pre-ordering.
I’m look foward revisiting the unique universe of Persona. The very nice balance of relationship and combat. The art style and memorable mu…. … … wait i know that person on tv…
I’m most excited about the new additions to this one over the PS2 version. Making one of my favorite games even better.
I’m most intrigued to see the different scenarios with the female protagonist.
A classic and groundbreaking RPG to be experienced from an entirely different viewpoint. A plethora of new and revised content. A handful of Persona 4 cameos. And of course, I would be able to play it while wearin’ a JUNPEI HAT. A deal worthy of TV’s Tanaka himself!
What to do?
