Surprise! Twisted Metal Coming to PS3

118 0

Man I love surprises!

And I ESPECIALLY love E3 surprises!

Thing is, in this day and age, it’s super rare for a game to surprise anyone at E3 anymore. There are just too many leaks. And the Internet makes sure those leaks travel fast and furious. From the moment the info first gets out to the time when the hardcore gamers know about it, you’re talking 12, maybe 18 hours tops. Many publishers have simply given up trying to surprise gamers at E3 because they know it’s just not possible anymore. But back in the day – when E3 first began – you’d walk onto the show floor and have no idea what new games and new ideas you’d find as you traveled from booth to booth. That sense of wonder, of discovery, of sheer surprise…it was total gamer joy. But these days that sense of surprise and discovery has all but vanished from the E3 experience.

Which is why when Sony asked if we wanted to close out their E3 press conference by announcing the new Twisted Metal AND asked if we wanted to try to keep it a surprise…well, we were thrilled! An attempt at a good, old fashioned E3 surprise? Hells yes, baby! Sign us up!

Not sure if you missed the press conference but if you did, you can check out the surprise announce right here:

We know this is going to be the best Twisted Metal ever released. 16 players online, 2-4 player split screen, amazing new game modes, helicopters, motorcycles, sports cars, all battling it out in highly interactive levels with all the skill, speed, and strategy you could ask for! It’s been a long while since the last console Twisted Metal was released, but we think the wait will have been worth it. We’re crazy proud of the new game and are looking forward to entertaining all of the loyal TM fans as well as earning many new Twisted Metal devotees with this title.

But the game is not done yet. We’ve got a ways to go so we could really use your help. The game is playable on the show floor starting now. So if you’re able to get into E3 this year, please come to the Sony booth and give Twisted Metal a play. And then please hit us back on our brand new Eat Sleep Play forums with your likes, dislikes, issues, changes, fixes, etc. Whatever feedback we can get, we are grateful for. Early user feedback is one of the key things that turns a game into a classic. And we want this baby to be classic!

Ok, so that’s that. Twisted Metal is coming on Playstation 3! And we could not be more pleased! Now we’re off, into the bowels of the Los Angeles Convention Center to see the sites, play the games, and hey, who knows, perhaps discover a few surprises along the way! Stranger things have

Great to be back ya’ll! We missed you!

  • Ive been waiting 15 years for this… ever since the first Twisted Metal came out, it could only be better…

  • It only does ice cream. I love it.

  • Man, David, I don’t think you really exploited your superstar status in the conference nearly as much as you should have. You could’ve walked in, fists in the air, with a loud booming voice. Kratos’ grand-daddy commands more respect.

  • we’ve known about twisted metal ps3 since LAST e3…

  • Awesome reveal

  • Not much of a surprise David…you are a HORRIBLE liar. Really…you suck at it. Portal 2…that was a surprise…your announcement felt like grade F manipulation.

  • The only thing I noticed @ E3 that wasn’t leaked at least a month ago was the video store coming to Canada.

  • @57…actually…check back to the video posts on this blog…I’ve been counting down for over a month and a half…

Too bad they waited so long and gave iTunes a foothold first….won’t even bother with the PSN offer now.

  • @57…and there was no indication of Portal2 with the Fatman introducing it and indicating the PS3 was getting the best console version..that came from nowhere afaik.

  • I hope to see a multiplayer beta sometime soon for the PS3.

  • Now way. I thought they just ditched the franchise. This is gonna be awesomeness.

  • This has been the worst kept secret in video game history.

Finally its official now though, so Twisted Metal on PS3 & free online play? Sign me up!!!

  • Oh yea David you ninja
I cant wait for THIS WOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
    Thanks Jaffee

  • I never really had a chance to experience TM on the PS2(only on the PSX and PSP) but that was a nice showing.

I really like the Nuke mode. And that real life Sweet Tooth dude …creepy. lol

  • nobody is really surprised about this lol good news anyway.
a few good games coming out, E3 blowed .
    i won’t be buying a 3d tv anytime soon.
and if you would have added an orb to the navigation controler you could have saved us all some money, but i see your going down the Nintendo milky road.
    thanks for trying though.

  • “Kicked ass on playstation,
    Kicked even more on PS2,
and Kicked a bigger one on PSP!”
i wish the other NYC cab driver say that

  • I approve of this. Really pleasant surprise. :)

  • Best announcement at E3, period. I’ve been waiting a long time for this. Thank you Dave Jaffe and everyone else at Eat Sleep Play!!!

  • this is great news! cant w8 for this game!

  • The only thing I like about E3 for sony, and I missed it cause it was so boring talking about the move and lbp 2.
Damn you but that trailer kick ass.

  • Yes Twisted Metal for the PS3! i’m hoping for the best with this one and hope it turns out to be a beautifully made and realistic driving beast with precise driving mechanics and powerful cool weapons and animations and stuff. go big!

  • Pachter spoiled it couple of weeks ago :p

  • Looks great and loved the announcement. Great surprise and presentation (commercial, truck driving in, etc.).

  • Yes at last!!!!!! Oh how I missed seeing a clown on fire!!

  • This is good news Jaffe, but i think the biggest surprise of the show belongs to Gabe Newell’s portal2 coming to PS3. You’ve always been on team Sony, but Newell is a notorious opponent of the ps3 platform, so seeing him finally come around was a HUGE surprise (for me). Looking forward to both of these games though, i will support Jaffe & Company.

  • Finally…thank u dave…cant wait

  • hell yea :) one of the best playstation franchies of all time…. this is what PS3 needs….. cant wait

  • haha yeah… would have never been possible if he didn’t lie but whatever it’s all cool now :p

  • NUKE is going to be sick!!!

By the way has exclusive information ’bout the game!

Can’t wait to see the returning cast + the new faces!

Loving the sweet tooth clown pose! and the fact that you can select any type of vehicle you want in Nuke mode!

The online is going to be CHAOTIC!

PS: Chain-saw for the win! Please add more sick weapons like this one!

    Thank you SCEA and Eatsleepplay

  • me and my friends all ready know how the e3 would be like and we where right well we thought you would be the truck but other then that we were right

but is this going to be a disk or download able game

  • When they announced that Twisted Metal was coming to the PS3, my jaw nearly DROPPED!! Can’t wait.

  • Looked awesome, really was a fantastic surprise. The presentation was perfect. Loved the Sweet Tooth cosplay.

  • Thank you so much Dave & Scott for a real surprise for a change.

This is arguably one of the best game trailers I’ve ever seen.

  • Ok but it releases when?

  • Epic, I cant wait

  • Only interested reveal of E3 for me. I just don’t understand why Sony keeps leak their games before E3 and then have no real surprised for us.

  • Thought you were going to sit at your computer at home Jaffe. Hahaahaha Sweeeeet! (pun intended)

  • i don’t know if i’m more excited to hear from mr. jaffe himself, or that TM is coming back!

  • I never got it. Boring franchise.

  • I’ve waited 8 years for this game.

  • You guys are so awesome! Twisted Metal is one of my most favorate playstation franchises of all time. Want to know one of my other favorites? Heres a hint…..It has to do with a GOD and it was OF a great WAR. I do have a suggestion though…..can we please get Twisted Metal one as a ps1 classic on the psn? Pretty Please? As great as Twisted Metal 2 was, the first Twisted Metal was a classic too and was one of the first and greatest games on the ps1.

  • It was the most exciting news out of anything from E3 hands down!I couldn’t believe it when i saw the video. I had to check and make sure it wasn’t a prank when I first saw it. Totally unexpected because he kept saying they weren’t working on a new TM.

ChAINSAWS ON MOTORCYCLES?! YES PLEASE! Sniper ability looked very cool too and we haven’t even seen all the special abilities! The nuke/teamwork mode looked sweet.

  • Is this gonna be in blu ray disc PLEASSSSEEEE REPLY!!

  • thanks dave

  • At last… Hope this one it’s been made by Incog Inc. despite that the “black” died on that airplane

  • Is the split screen online (like warhawk or resistance) or offline?

  • can we get out of the car this time? lol XD … here’s an awesome idea, give us the ability to jack other/enemies cars lol XD
