  • Nice update. Thanks

  • Senior Manager Grace Chen… This is a good update…. Thanks…

  • I am seriously starting to wonder how many more *years* it will be before Sony will even *acknowledge* whether Canada will ever see such a service.

Like, HOW HARD CAN IT BE? Whatever the legal and technical costs are will surely be a drop in the bucket compared to the revenue this will generate.

I keep hearing stupid rumours that the lack of a video store is due to Canadian content/broadcast laws, but I don’t believe it as I can watch/buy any American movie, TV show, music album as soon as it is released!

    …AND…

If Microsoft can do it, why can’t Sony? Microsoft doesn’t even own HUGE movie and TV companies like Sony does therefore this should be business as usual for licencing/royalty lawyers at Sony.

I hate to keep nagging but c’mon already. This is has gone WAY past ridiculous.

  • So this is it now? 5 movies a week? We’re not even getting any new TV shows now?

  • I’d like to see much, much more game trailers pleeeze!! How bout more movie trailers too?

  • Something, Something, Canada, Something, Something.

  • hey guys i know this is way off topic but since i have been banned from the playstation forums someone here can help me , i want to know to do i get wireless internet on my psp using tmobile wireless hotspot network ?

  • I think they’ve stop listing tv shows because there are so many. The TV show side of the Playstation Store is updated on the day after the show airs.

    “Breaking Bad” FTW!

  • No video store for Canada still? :(

  • Hey all you canucks – from someone who knows someone in the know (say that three times fast)…

The Canadian store is, apparently, imminent… the issue has not really ever been about the CRTC but Sony internal quibbling.

The Playstation store division has been asking for the content from the Sony media divisions – and for free. To me, sure, that makes sense, since hey, it’s all Sony… but that’s not how it works – the media side need to get paid for the content and the PS3 side don’t want to pay. Hence the stalemate.

My understanding is these groups have come to an agreement and it was suggested that this summer Canada will see the video store.

    Let’s keep our fingers crossed…

  • @11
I have heard the same, more or less.
I’m expecting E3 to be when the announcement is officaly made.
However I would expect the issue to be officaly made by dec, just in time for people who get PSN cards for Xmas.

But I have heard something close to the same last year, so I’m not putting alot of faith in it.

  • the UK/EU/Ausie Video Storez need BARE updatin!
btw are vidz also removed from the Vidz Store?
If so, can you please also mention this in your posts plzz =P
    Tyvm

  • Free doesn’t sound right. Unless SCEC was going to pay the royalties due to the actors and whatnot. SCEC was probably looking for the content “At cost” or something. So basicly, both divisions were more concerned with their own internal bottom line and could care less what is best for the company as a whole.

That sounds more realistic. Still involves Sony making dumb decisions. Something they are very VERY good at.

  • I have to say that I appreciate this service even more given the general ineptitude of local broadcasters (like the Bay Area Fox affiliate broadcasting 7 minutes of Seinfeld in place of the beginning of the Fringe finale >:(

Thanks for the save on stuff like that, Grace

  • Get the Video & Comic store to EU/Canada please! I (and many more) Have been waiting for too long. =(

  • Video Store for Canada please.

  • &13 & 16 go on the europe blog and complain.

  • Video store for Canada asap plz!!

  • Don’t get your hopes up folks. Sony is not wasting precious E3 time to announce a video store in Canada.

We’ll hear about it the moment we get it, if we ever get it and not a second before. At this point I’ve lost all reasonable hope. I just hooked up my PC to my TV and give my money to Apple instead. They let me buy and rent content in SD or HD from multiple regions and it works on my iPhone. Similarly, all my Blu-ray Digital Copies are redeemed through iTunes for the same reason.

It’s probably not as good as the same content being output by my PS3, but it’s a lot better than 1920 x 1080 pixels of blackness and 6.1 Digital Surround Silence.

    Frankly, F U Sony.

  • norway please

  • This stuff is worthless, honesty who actually pays 4 this stiff? its all 2nd rate never was bargain bin stuff from som discount store. I used to be upset that this wasnt avaiable outside america but frankly whats the point? its not worth watching even if it was free.

Sonys foolishly missed the boat again on the video store. they couldve had a huge recurring revenue from this service but as usual they blew it in a big way.

  • But if Sony releases a Canadian video store, how will I be entertained without getting to read comment after comment after comment from Canadians whining for an answer that Sony has already given them?

Now it gets even more interesting with you guys going on about conspiracy theories and such. It’s seriously hilarious. As if you guys had any idea what’s actually going on at Sony.

Look, folks. It’s an easy guess that Sony really would like to take your money. I’m sure they have been working on taking your money. Please don’t worry. You and your money will be parted soon enough.

  • Canada at E3?

  • 2 more weeks before the Canadian Video store reveal…tick tock.

  • @skant…

You know what…Canadians paid the same as you did for their PS3…maybe they would just like the same functionality day and date with others. Also, as SCEA represents BOTH countries and this blog acts as their public face…the total disregard shown Canadians voicing their questions has been nothing short of appealing. It has driven many of us PS3 owners in Canada to turn to iTunes instead…a company that seemed to have zero problems getting a store into Canada in quick fashion.

  • Need Dexter Season 4 and subtitle option in your movies.

  • And TV Shows

  • @KSPRAYDAD

You got that right, I’m even looking into buying an AppleTV just for the sake of ease of downloading. Sometimes looking on a torrent for an hour for a TV show that the PVR did not record for some reason is just not worth saving a buck that the same show would cost.

  • Canada.

  • @11: Man I hope you are right. It’s the 1st sign of possibly true rumor I ever hear on that. Hoping we’ll see a PSN Canadian Video Store soon (And hoping it will work really great, this was maybe sony will try to react faster next time to make more money).

Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

  • wow! “It only does everything” in the US, isn’t it false advertising if it doesnt do everything in Canada, they should probably mention that so we dont waist our money on a hokey product!
