So someone said I must be a 360 fanboy. I have never owned an XBOX, and I have had every PS. But after being treated like a wallet that they can just take money out of, it wouldn’t take much for me to switch. RROD doesn’t scare me with a three year warranty. At least Microsoft is respecting their customers. The main game I play is COD, which is about equal on both systems, so I don’t care.
Just called Sony after the update, and they say I’ve got to pay $150. I’m not going to do it. I’ll switch to 360 within the week and never look back.
i can’t beat call of juarez bound in blood because my ps3 keeps freezing on me at the end of the level and the web browser crash on me every time i leave the browser.

I’m having problems playing online call of duty 4. This seems to be the only game im having problems with. Is there any way ia can re-load update 3.0? Pleasa respond

i have a 40bg and i download threw the ps3 so where ever 3.00 comes from im clueless cause im in canada ont still like ive said they should be the ones paying not us
it dont cost them nuffin to fix our stuff well pretty well anyways its pretty bad ive even thought of saleing 15 of my ps3 games and one controller thats still in the box untouched for 300$
but most are older games from 07-09
um so if the 2.8 is made to be recognized as the new firmware, who wants to test it for me?

lol KLG aka 561, 562 and 563, my system works just fine, I am doing this for those of you that are having problems, so I repeat the question, if I make the 2.8 recognized as the newest – who, with a messed up system, wants to test it out and see if it works?

Has anyone had any luck with customer service admitting that the problem is the firmware update? I will not pay $150 to fix my system that THEY BROKE.
I understand that this is not the majority of us, but it has affected enough people that they need to fix their problem. I bought a PS3 to play games, and when their firmware update makes my PS3 Not Play Games after a year and a half of no problems, its making me very upset. This is no coincidence, its their firmware update that is freezing / crashing systems.
What’s next, is Sony going to tell us that we all just happened to have the same hardware failure the same moment we downloaded the 3.0 FW update?
Maybe if they stopped updating the Playstation store every day and worked on updating the firmware we could be playing games sooner.
I see a few posts suggesting a switch to an XBox 360 might resolve their predicament. DON’T DO IT. It has just as many problems & you pay for everything! I have been having issues with Battlefield 1943 & it is almost exactly the same on both consoles, perhaps a little worse on the 360. I really don’t think the problem is with the Playstation 3. I haven’t done the latest update since it is optional as stated on the update page. My system works just fine, including the Blu-Ray. Sorry I don’t have any words of wisdom for the users whose systems have crashed, except that you may be talking to the wrong techs. It’s just speculation, someone at Sony has to know how to roll back the firmware. Persist & conquer.
Obviously I need to read more closely or pay attention. I is a software update not a firmware update.

@564 purrfactor ahaha sorry i didnt know my bad if they came back out with 2.80 id gladly be the one to test it out since i cant play a game anyways lol well with out it freezing 5-10 mins into the games or waiting for the next level 2 load lol Oh and for NUMBER 565 @Ragionieri yea man ive had that issuse with em as well just more pricey 197 with tax i have the box here now just came in a few hours ago but im waiting to see if the next update fixs my problem and if that dosent well then im saleing my games

So when does the firmware after 3.01 come out? :-/ When I play Beatles: Rock Band on my 60gb PS3 it freezes in 5-10 minutes. I don’t have many other games to try out at the moment. From what I see online it looks like its due to the firmware update as other people with the 60gb version have issues with it.
it is out yet but its optional and you have to go on XMB to software update – internet search update-
the system will find the new version 3.01 and download it.

I have 3.01. 3.00 everything was fine, 3.01 Beatles RockBand now freezes on me.
I have a 60gb PS3 btw and it seems many others have the same issue. I really hope Sony addresses this confirming its the firmware so I know whether or not I may need a new ps3.
i can say without a dought its the firmwear update that messed up our ps3 due to the fact that was ps3 was working just fine untill the 3.00 and 3.01 now ive got game freeze so its the firmwear not that ps3 they need to fix us i belive its a scam for use to get new ps3s to spend more money that for myself i dont have cause i live in canada ont and works is slim to none out here i will not pay i will not pay so SONY STEP UP FIX ME
Just got Disgaea 3 in the mail. Played the introduction. Turned off game. Updated to 3.01. Now no discs can be read. Not games. Not Bluray movies. Not DVDs. Not CDs. Nothing.
Sony better *acknowledge* this bug fast and patch soon!
I have tried the 3.01 update and I still can’t play COD Modern Warfare or World at War online. Both work fine on campaign mode, I just can’t play multiplayer online. I can play all of my other games online though. Does anyone have any suggestions to remedy this situation, or is having the same problem?
Before I downloaded this, all of my games worked fine and still do.I already beat Uncharted though.So I couldn’t tell you much about that one messing up.

I went against my own advice (firmware is held in flash memory) and as a last ditch effort to try to remedy the 3.0 blueray issue restored my PS3, reformatting the hard drive after backing up of course. I did this last night, it takes over 4 hours to do. I let it run through the night and this morning attempted to get a game to load. Although I have not tested it to its fullest, I can say my first attempt was not successful. The disc icon would not even show. It seems I will give in and call Sony and bug them to death about it to try to get some answers. If it comes to having to pay $150 since I am out of warranty with my 80Gb BC 2007 model year PS3, I have already told my friends that I may go to the darkside. Sell all of my games and PS3 for parts and do the unthinkable. Buy a X-box 360 Elite. Speaking of that, just read that there is going to be a Modern Warfare 2 X-box Elite bundle with 250Gb hard drive. Maybe it is a good time to go to the darkside. As my PS3 sits on its deathbed it still whispers, “Chuck, Chuuuuuccccck…You know you want to buy a slim…” Sorry bud, its been good, but its time for you to let go. Time to go home to heaven. I will be just fine, hanging out with my new friend, 360.

ChuckrNorris, @ 582 – if you do decide to sell it for parts, let me know, I may have a way to go back to the 2.8 firmware and I need one to test it on as my 80g BC model still works fine with the 3.0 update – i did the restore and that fixed the freezing issue i had with devil may cry 4 – but if i can get the 2.8 firmware patch recognized as the newest, which i am working on and I think I can do it, I need a system that was hosed up by the firmware upgrade to test it out on.. so let me know please.
Hello, I downloaded the 3.01 update that was suppose to fix trouble in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. But as it happens, my Uncharted just crashed.
Is the problem fixed, or is it not?

You know this is just lame, sony i’m not mad, i’m just really disappointed. What a crock of sh@t, makes me glad to see you lose money on these machines when you treat your customers like this.
i have the original ps3 60gb and my ps3 is freezing like crazy. cod4 is the worst. k2 isn’t much better though. most everything is ok but all my movies that i had on the hdd can’t be played. they worked fine before. i just get” this content cannot be played (800028801)” what the hell does that mean. all of a sudden my movies are “corrupted” data and the ps3 can’t play them??!! the following isn’t a problem: but why did sony get rid of stuff like music while surfing the net? and now they have all this ps store garbage. they want me to buy more with all the “market influence” but the only thing i will be buying is a new 360. an even better thought …… buying a new pc so i don’t have to deal with all this crap. we don’t want a new background and an ugly friends list… we got a ps3 cause it is the “powerhouse” of the consels but we are still missing the fundamentals.cumon sony what is going on???!!!!!!! FIX THIS!!!!
Wow. Disappointing. Seems like Sony was finally getting a leg up with the enthusiasm over the PS3 slim and the 360 having to deal with their RROD issues, and then this happens.
I fortunately haven’t had a problem with my 3.0 update, but then I haven’t played the PS3 much since the 3.0 update to verify. I doubt i’ll be taking my chances with the 3.01 update, though, because I certainly don’t want a brick with Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank both on pre-order.
I will throw in my 2 cents and say that I do not like the Playstation Store being the first thing in every single menu. It should have stayed in the internet menu (or wherever it was originally). Having it in every menu is only confusing and frustrating, not to mention shameless. (If there is a way to disable this please let me know, as I was not able to find any option to when going through the settings.)
This update fixed NOTHING!!! Not only that, but games that were running flawlessly (FUEL), now have the same connection issues that other titles (Fat Princess) have.. Which is getting dropped from the PSN mid game, and having to sign in again from the XMB.. Worse is that NOTHING WILL UPDATE!! Such as Life w Playstation.. The progress bar for the update download gets about a third of the way and then stops.. Then the estimated time for completion starts increasing, and before you know it, you get booted off PSN AGAIN!! Hopefully you fix this before the holiday season. $299 or not, I would rather pay for an online service if it means not having to deal with this kind of BS.. I hate the thought of buying an X-cox, but it’s looking better every day.. Epic fail on these updates Sony, EPIC..
PLUS, with games such as Borderlands, and Uncharted 2 coming out soon, specifically designed for online play and co-op, these crashes and logouts are going to KILL the market!!! DO NOT WANT! PLEASE FIX!!

besides the game frezes (hopefully..) 3.01 didn’t change a damn thing..
ps3 version 3.01 fixed nothing except ps3 being able to see discs.
I just installed version 3.01 on my 60gb PS3 hoping to find all the problems i’ve been having fixed. Well that didn’t happen, my ps3 can now see blu-ray’s, games and dvd’s. But when i go to play them my ps3 still freezes, except games that do not need to be updated. When in a game trying to quit, going to XMB then to quit game my ps3 freezes. While trying to install updates for games such as rock band 2 updating to version 1.01 of rockband 2 and my ps3 freezes while trying to install the update then it reboots itself. While trying to play dvd’s or blu-ray’s it will see the disc then i press play and the screen goes black and stays like that. So far my 5 minutes with version 3.01 the only thing it has fixed is my ps3 being able to see discs. However it will not play the content on those disc’s, and it will play ps3 games but if they need to be updated it then freezes again. Prior to version 3.00 and version 3.01 my ps3 worked perfectly.
I finally received an email back from customer service. Same story, ” firm ware update couldn’t be the reason why the games freeze, need to bring it in for service and if out of warranty, need to pay for it”.
This is complete bull. If this is how Sony is going to react to their problem, I’ll never spend another dollar on their products again.
After applying the 3.01 patch, PS3 still doesn’t recognize any Blu-Ray discs. However, I can play old DVDs. Can we have some help here please.

Uncharted still crashes for me with 3.01 a few hours in playing. So it isn’t obviously fixed.
WOW, im one of the few lucky ones… my system’s just working fine.. since i didn’t DL the new FW which is 3.01..
