Hi everyone, PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v6.00) will be available soon. This is a minor update, but here’s quick head’s up on what to expect.
- For those of you looking to customize your XMB (XrossMediaBar), a few new colors will be added under the Theme Settings. These new theme colors can be used on PSP models 2000 or after (PSP-2000, 3000 and N1000).
- A security patch has been added.
- [Network Update] has been renamed as [System Update].

Screw it. The PSP has been a horrible gaming device thanks to its lack of good games for years. I used to use it for music but got sick of waiting on all of the multimedia enhacments the device has been sorely lacking for ages and replaced it with an iPod. Since then, it’s been collecting dust. Apparently these are the best/most important system enhancements they can think of, so I can’t see any reason to hang onto the little black paperweight any more. See ya PSP. I’m trading you in for something more useful.

3.0 would have had a much better reputation if you would have told people about the new mic settings, DL/UL speed showing, controllable sparkles, scrolling indicator, new sorting options on the store, etc etc etc etc etc…

I wasn’t expecting this update until October 1, but it’s nice to see it ready this early. Are there any plans for a Custom Theme Converter update that makes use of 6.00’s changes?
Sony really needs to step up their updates, although the new folder design is pretty cool. I wish they add a friends list to the psp.
sony, im glad that u guys always make new updates and all but when will u guys give us an update that actually is worth our time? i mean i love my psp and some of the updates that came out for it, but the consumers of this device want/need something more…

How about a new rule where you only make us update our devices when there is actually something worthy of an update. This isn’t a windows pc, we don’t need security updates.

I would really like to have that on my psp, especially when i get the go.
Well a few new colors would e nice but hey do guys think you can fiure out how to do dynamic background on a psp I mean that would be so cool also I think this update should work for psp-1000 models as well I mean its not fair to the people with older systems and I know more than a few that can’t afford the new ones.
I’m not going to talk about version numbers. Seriously though, PSP1000 models have not gotten anything lately. When was the last major update? Why is theme colors exclusive to newer models? Is it a (D)RAM issue?

i like it so far. i’ve only had my psp for 5 months so i’m still playin around with the features =) i like being able to download demos to see if you like it or not yay!
Sony this is very important so you gotta listen. The PSP GO is coming out. The way you go to access the games is the same as downloadable games on the other PSPs. Game content. The way you have it now is hideous. Firmware updates, game patches, demos, and downloaded games are stored ALL in ONE folder! What you need to do is separate them. Also, when you press X to go into the new Download Games, we should have an alternate view of our games. I really like what you have done in the PS3’s 3.0 when you go to playstation store and before you go in, it displays all the new stuff going on by sexy icons. That is the way our downloaded games should be displayed. We should be able to select the box art of the game we want to play. The way this part of the UI is set up currently is not user friendly at all and not pleasing to the eye. All you have to do is copy the layout that you have when you click the “what’s new” UI and implament it in the PSP’s XMB with the cover arts of the downloaded games. After we get this, it would be nice to get the same for music (album art) and etc.
Is this update going to make some of my PSP games not work? I still can’t play Uncharted and I just bought the stupid thing. FIX THE PS3 firmware problem!

-Faster to start up games and PS3
-Info bottom of options
-What’s new
-Dynamic Themes, ability for people to make them please
-WHEN are the customizable avatars coming?
Things I do not like:
-The font is HUGE. I would like an option that allows users to adjust the icon and font size to their liking, it’s an eyesore
-Option to change the friends list design
-Blurry background when choosing something like for example “System Settings”

I just tried using Remote Play today on my PSP (with firmware 5.51) and it gives me an error that I need to do an update to my software. So I cannot use Remote Play until I upgrade to 6.00?
Yeah, Sony have stopped ORP (Open Remote Play) from working and then used the same system in their own devices. Is there anyway of getting ‘Vids’ on the PS3 to work without updating to 3.00? I REFUSE to update until this crap they call software is actually worth using. I don’t want advertising, I don’t want the news, I don’t want to know ‘what’s new’. I want a f**king games console, that plays f**king games and plays them well! So cut out all the crap and get it working properly!
People who want to pansy about with these sh**ty features will go out and buy a Wii! (I have two, so flame all you like!) I have not and will not ever buy ANY digital download product. I refuse to partake in the destruction of the second hand market. If I choose to sell my console and games in 3 years time, at least I’ll get something back, not just ‘thanks for your money, now f**k off’!
* Allow you to choose your boot up logo.
* Put the PLAYSTATION 3 start up logo back. PS1 had it, PS2 had it… why not PS3? Slim PS3 not handle it?
* Allow you to enable/disable ‘What’s new’.
* Remove the ‘Playstation Store’ links from every f**king menu. I know where it is already!

my USB still wont work help
The 1001 model I’m using is now experiencing in-battle input lag from the D-pad in DISSIDIA. This only started occurring today, I believe, and I updated late last night.
Also, what new colors? Haven’t counted, but it still seems like a color for each month.
thats cool and now but im not really surprised that sony is starting to lack support for the original psp version 1000 first it starts with the theme colors next itll be the games just wait

Nevermind my complaint; it was a gameplay feature which automatically inputs particular commands. I forgot I had it active.

please don’t punish legitimate players who spend hard earned money on your games trying to take out pirates .
We may gain a new exclusive out of it though…. seeing its more secure… my head hurts… please fix it… I wanted to play this badly and wouldn’t have updated if I would have known it was going to break my ape quest add-ons (the whole game relies on add-ons, otherwise its a demo) please help

theres only 2 things i really kinda find annoying in 3.0 really
– the stupid ass magnification that they added for the blind people.. really defeats the neatness and sharpness of xmb for us 1080i/p users .. now i feel like my ps3 is back in 480p every time i use the ps3 in my bedroom
– wtf is with the gray boxes in the friend list .. atleast allow a transparency/color change option for it or something
and just a heads up for those bitching about the whats new screen you can disable it under system settings
i’d like a update for Enchanted Arms so i can read my messages in-game instead of having to save and exit out every time i want to read/send them

Looks like nothing was included in this update aside from more security, aside from PSN access is there are real reason to update to this firmware?
I mean, new colors could be nice if in a firmware update we got the ability to change it to a random color everyday or something. And with the change to the XMB why not make the memory stick the default for photos instead of the camera icon since it wasn’t released in the NA updates?
Really this just comes across as another security update. A real shame, since it’s clear this could have been held back so at least something interesting would be included. A real shame, and I won’t be updating until I think it’s worth finding something on the PSN to download again (or a better update comes along) since it’s not worth risking my PSP over something that adds nothing positive to the user experience.
I keep waiting for DIVX/XVID support.
I would also like to see it support connecting to a standard DLNA/Media Server.

I’d just like to say, I honestly don’t think they are “screwing over” early adopters of thier consoles, but you have to admit the guy has a point. I can understand why they do it (to sell more consoles… duh) but I also understand how annoying it is, and how much money it costs, to keep with the best console hardware/features. If I represented the whole of the PSP section of Sony, I would create a PSP2, with dual analogue sticks, and some extra features, rather than making newer and newer versions of the old one, which over time, stops older models getting newer features, and seen as people with the PSP-1000 got the console at launch I’d have thought they’d deserve to have the same features as the people that waited to get the newer, cheaper models.
Thanks for the update by the way, although I am a little annoyed at the fact that my launch PSP won’t get the new features, even if they are so scarce. Nevermind, keep working hard sony :). Hopefully you’ll be able to silence some of the annoying moaners around here.
Oh and one last thing before I go, cross game chat… come on, why is this such a big deal, there isn’t many people that use the microphones anyway. I have a friends list of about 40 people. Theres only 4 people on there with a mic, and 2 of them that actually use it in any game. Infact I shall do a poll, find out how many PS3 users actually use a microphone. I personally believe the majority of PS3 users have a mic, but don’t use it. There will be the odd few that use it, and then the rest will just not have one compatible with the PS3.
As I was reading this blog thinking if I should update my psp I saw alot of comments on the ps3 firmware and I though I have had an xbox360 since they came out and never had a problem with It and that includes major and minor updates I am probable going to get yelled at for this but it’s true
