PLEASE let us customize the xmb as we see fit even reverting everything back to the way it was before firmware 3.0
Including these options:
– Font size on the PS3 XMB (it would be nice to choose small, med, or large for the old folks who cant see but I was fine with the old font size)
– UGLY Friends List gray box
– Excessive Playstation Store Icons under Game and Store are not necessary and makes the XMB look clunky
I don’t mind the scrolling ads by the time but it would also be nice to take it off if you choose to.
All the other features of the update was a nice improvement I guess just cosmetics and certain games freezing needs to be fixed.
Sony….come on!!! With this many people saying the same complaints you have to realize something is wrong. Until they hear our voice, I am joining the PSN BOYCOTT!!!!
I agree:
1. Ditch the extra PSN Store icons. It’s annoying having to flip thru this useless icon in the games section. Is this your attempt to try to force us to buy more?
2. The ticker is wasting our bandwidth so let us disable it.
3. The boxes around the friends look like crap. This one is only cosmetic…..so if I have to I can deal with it.
P.S. Is this how you justify the “free” PSN network by shoving ads down our throat? If this is the case can I pay $50 a year and get an ad free console?
I’m one of the few who loves everything but the removal of the game starting chime and PlayStation3 logo. However it’s good to hear you’re working on the issues at hand for those experiencing troubles.
I know alot of people are urging you (Sony) to fix this and that regarding cosmetics.
However, we all know this update is some sort of ‘compatibility-patch’ and not a major overhaul from a newly introduced design.
But if it’s possible to change the “fading of text” on the XMB, which happens when one highlights an icon/music track/video/setting/whatever, that would be a nice touch. The general overview takes a beating. I don’t see how that helps anyone.
I know alot of people (including myself) are complaining about the Slim’s fan noise. Considering some have a silent Slim, I hope this is something that can be tweaked, like the amount of voltage supplied to the fan or something. I would really appreciate that. My Slim sounds alot more than my old 40GB model which was dead silent.
Thanks.
Regarding the fan noise, by tweaking I meant of course by the firmware department. Not like an added option, since that would probably render alot of malfunctioning consoles if people started to toy around. Just to clarify my previous post.
Sony, I think you guys should make this firmware optional like version 2.80, so people can access like PSN Store and whatnot without updating the firmware, unless they wanted to update. Otherwise, only more people would have problem(s).
I don’t know if anybody has mentioned this yet but I came across a small problem with the internet browser that wasn’t there before 3.0.
When you change your cookies to either allow or block, if you go to a new web page or refresh the one you’re currently at, the change won’t take effect. You have to go to yet another web page or do another refresh for the change to take effect. It’s a little annoying and I hope you fix it.
400th Comment. Hopefully SONY get the picture now.
I really hope so!
By the way, the audio output option and dynamic themes is a great addition! Also, beeing able to see what’s new without having to log into store is great! Keep up the good work Jut stay out of forcing people change the look and feel of what they’re used to.
@ #390 – “BaronBrain U ARE AN ELDERY F**K. I HAVE A 32 inch aquos and the fonts are too big 4me u old F****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Thanks for the kind words Kibagami_Jubei… it really goes far towards showing what a classy person you are.
And if you think that I’m “elderly” at 46, you’re in for some rude awakenings…
@400 Apollo93
Sony has a PR problem with compatibility issues in 3.0, but what evidence is there that they are concerned about people with UI complaints? Where are the replies?
At the least, I hope the next firmware addresses some of these things… at least selfishly, my own complaint. =)
But the big picture in my mind is increasingly how locked up the system is, and how little control you have over a device that you supposedly own. The cynic in me wonders if this is a test run… if the backlash is manageable, future firmwares will have full on advertisements, like those that were in Wipeout HD? The silence from Sony isn’t allaying any of this cynicism.
font is perfect!
much better on my 1080P display.
This is my second post on the matter as I feel everyones voices and ideas should be heard.
Seriously what is going on. I know their going for the whole media hub ( does everything ) approach.
But I bought a ps3 for its simplicity, back in the day sony was straight to the point, no frills. Now I start my ps3 and am greeted to what used to resemble a clean, sleek, user friendly interface.
You can’t deny its lots its “feel”, the sleek simple xmb that everyone loves has been replaced by an ugly, cluttered xmb.
Who ever has been newly employed to re-design the gui needs to be fired seriously.
Why is the xmb being re-designed anyway when theres so many other areas that need improvement..
-voice chat
-playing in game music
-fixing user profiles
-better synchonization and memory footprint
Oh then theres the fact that there user interface isnt even finished.. Hold down your round ps3 button and your greeted by a black, poorly designed screen that hasnt changed since the launched firmware.
I’m all for change, just get it right.
New Friends list is ugly!
It’s good to hear there will be an update because Firmware 3.0 is a joke…
– The friendlist is UGLY, why those big grey squares? The old friendlist was better and clean!
– Why several PlayStation Store icons? come on we already have one we’re not blind it’s ridiculous and a mess
-The blur in the XMB menu is ugly,an option to disable it would be nice
– Where is the PS3 boot sequence when we start a game? It disapeared! The chime and the animation with the PS3 logo were good we want them back! I understand the logo of the PS3 changed with the PS3 but at least make a new one with this one
– The music of the startup changed too, why? the old one was better
– WHERE IS THE ORIGINAL PURE BLACK XMB THEME? It disappeared too… Why did you delete it it was the best!
-The font is too big, we need an option to choose its size!!!
Fix those ^^ and
My first comment here, but I must now, because
a) font much to big now, it’s ugly! Please make a font-switcher!
b) friend list too big und too grey
c) new Bootlogo and Sound, I want the old back!
The design for ALL in 3.0 is ugly like hell, looks like you want now blind people or people get blind.
I want the Design from 2.8 back!
Fix those ^^ and everyone will be happy
Hello
I have trouble listening to music with the new firmware do.
I have a second problem, so I can not listen to music while using the Web browser
can you tell me what should I do? Can you help me? Then I return to 2.80?
thank you
Bonjour
merci
@411 khalildu91
Look at post 340 on page 7.
Agree @ Galrikh =) if you can fix the game related issues, please fix the other ones as well. I can’t stand it any longer to look at the big font and grey friend list on my full HD 37 inch screen :(
It might be complaining, but you should listen to your consumers. Just like the guys @ GG (Killzone 2): what do you guys want? We will make it! I like the way they want their game to be better, because we give them feedback.
– the extra store icon is an overkill
– the blurry background makes me dizzy after a while(did you really put this to the test?)
– the friendlist NEEDS to change back to the original form
– the font size (a special option to change it). I don’t understand why there has never been a font size changers though
– the logo is okay, but I also miss that ‘ping’ when I start a game. Why delete something if it never bothered someone?
Hoping to see all of this happen soon :) you will make a lot of your consumers happy with such an update. Don’t always do what you want at Sony; try to make something that defines consumer cooperation.
I want my Playstation 3 logo back when i boot the games!!! -.-
the only problem i am having is my music will not play unless i stay on the visual player screen why is that and can you guys fix it also
Patch-download in the background.
PLAYSTATION®3-Logo at game start.
Come on guys.
lol kick of legend, yeah I want the PS3 logo back too when I start games. Now I’m a bit jealous since I bought the slim PS3 that the original PS3 users get the new startup and the PS3 logo and chime when they start games.
3.0 has worked fine for me, except when I play Resistance 2 my PS3 freezes after playing a full round of multiplayer. When I go to play another round it freezes on the lobby screen right before the match begins.
I don’t intend to be condescending but Sony should allow us more control over our xmb experience and how information is presented to us. As well, they should not have rushed this firmware just to get advertising in for the Slim’s release. So please, Sony, get this malware off my system!
I’m glad I haven’t updated from 2.8 yet. I can live without being online. I don’t play online anyway, but I will miss out on trophies and game updates/fixes. I’ll wait until Sony fixes the “problems”, or gives us choices, because I like the 2.8 interface. I mentioned this in a post when the 3.0 features were announced – 3.0 is a mostly market department driven update, with hardware drivers for the Slim. And that’s when I disconnected from the network.
I hope SCEA is aware of Eric Lempel´s job too, and finally he will be fired.
Please Sony, get young people with talent and some fresh new ideas instead of this man with very crappy thinking and his team for PSN – Firmware updates.
Thanks.
the font size is fine. a lot of these complains are just people being too anal.
Good to hear a fix is on the way… seems sony QA should have done a better job testing the firmware before releasing it. I havent experienced any lockups but then again i havent been playing Uncharted or many games anyway, one thing i did notice however is some low resolution pixelation with certain text in certain games like Pacific Rift and GRID…
I like the new look and feel of the XMB. I’m very pleased with my PS3. The only issues i’ve had are that Uncharted freezes up endlessly, and Home is pretty slow to open. Other than that no problem.
Updated yesterday, Sept 4th. Immediately went to play Call of Duty 5, World at War. Everything looked normal until the last “Resume Game” option selection. The game should have started at my last play, about 2/3 of the way through my first pass through the game. The system went into an unrecoverable hang immediately, didn’t even change screens. The ONLY way I could get out of it was the master power switch on the back. I tried a number of times with same result. This is very troubling, the fact that games owned by hundreds of thousands of people would be rendered inop by a software “upgrade.” It displays that Sony obviously didn’t properly test the change before issuing it. When problems started arising, Sony should have immediately pulled the software.
Good one Sony, thanks for at least acknowledging this, I hope we get a fix soon.
i just bought uncharted and am having issues with freezing…. if you turn off the whats new it will stop freezing for a little bit, but so far it froze 8 times at different spots and im on going underground.
I was playing yesterday, and it sucks not to have the logo and chime when starting a game, it stayed too long on a black screen that I thought it froze. Bring that logo and chime back please.
I was not initially able to connect to the internet at all after updating until I reset my router and re-setup my PS3 internet connection on my PS3. Aside from the visual ugliness of the ticker and graphics 101 gray lines and boxes, I have to say that some of my previous PSN issues seem to be resolved now.
I used to get PSN disconnects all the time if I wasn’t actually in a game playing but was at all “idle” – reading PSN notes, or sending them. Now I seem to get fewer PSN disconnects. Not sure if its the update or the reset on the router that did this, though I have reset my router before and didn’t have this current stability.
dear ps im goin to keep it short okay theres no such thing as whinning when u pay $500 dallors for a system ive seen every ones post so im not goin to state the same thing its just over kill plez just give us what we paid for ps3 is a power house stop holding it bac
quick questions what changed on hulu that wont let ps3 watch movies on that sit anymore (has nothing to do with the update noticed this about 2 months ago)
and after downloading the up date i was on the internet browser the ps3 froze tried turning it off with the ps button wouldnt turn off hit the power swicth tried to turn ps3 on and there was just a red flashing light not the over heat light pattern i kno the diffrence plez dont respond it over heated cause it didnt its workin fine but wat does a steady flashing red light mean (no blue or yellow light it was only flashing red)
Fix your ish Sony..
yes i can not even get access to my PSN account.
although my net connection is pretty much low but i was able to connect to PSN with the old FW and can even play Call of Duty 4 MP with ease.
umm okay the sparkle back ground okay i see what you guys were getting at ps3 i also noticed when you scrolled up and down the sparkles reacted to the movement of the xmb menue items as if there were being flung around by the xmb items movemont cool effect for future refrence but the sparkles has to go kinda girly but i like how yall are intergrating the themes in with the xmb scrollible items looking forward to seeing more
the update worked fine for me you guys should be grateful and stop complaining about the firmware 3.0
433 greatful for what yours works fine but there are others that dont hints the point that they even made this post about the update because they kno there is buggs
I agree with others, I dislike the new friends list appearance … the gray boxes are unattractive.
I’d also like to see the Afrika Dynamic Theme stateside, it looks nice.
Regardless of my gripes, thanks for constantly improving your product!
I thought it was unrelated, but now I realize that this update causes Uncharted to skip a little bit, hope you can fix it.
I’m new to PS3 just got the slim 5 days ago and Uncharted keeps freezing all the time… hope they fix this soon. Overall I’m happy with the system
Friends,
Face it. Sony will not fix the Friends List. Nor will they restore the original font size or roll back the new, invidious push-marketing on the XMB. The reality is that Sony is not rewarding the loyal, early PS3 adopters with the new firmware. And as no good deed goes unpunished, the wishes of the established PS3 audience are being sacrificed upon the altar of potential Wii converts.
The new XMB design choices are, very obviously I think, crafted to allow the low-end, unsophisticated, Wii-type users a hand-holding into the PS3 experience.
When we all bought PS3s, it was cutting-edge technology. Now it is less-so, and Sony’s desire to bring in more and more of the casual audience results in the new, fugly XMB. We are simply out of luck in this regard. Alas, the Kutaragi era is truly over.
I’m working on a some redesigns for 3.0, based on general feedback here and the PS forums.
Here’s an early image of the Friends List if anyone wants to check it out: http://img2.pict.com/21/a8/29/1572588/0/fw3flredesign.jpg
I’ll be adding more here: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3updates&thread.id=43648
yes # 296 i do know read maybe u should u obviously dint get what i saying.i tried of ppl criticised those who leave negative feed bac so busy put down ppl being sony yes men .like i ur tool i stand by what said running ur mouth for sake of running it
I just want to leave my feedback on later versions of the firmware that Sony decides to. I would appreciate options. Yes we have options on what our theme is and what our background is but what I want is icon options on the XMB.
I don’t think that this is too far fetched an idea. PC’s have this option to clean up the desktop of unused icons, why not the XMB.
I’m sorry to say, but there are far too many things that I do not use or like on the XMB. Such things include Home, Life with Playstation, the Photocreator, and with this update the What’s New Section, and the new Playstation Store Icons. What I would like is the option to turn off Icons that you don’t want to view on your XMB.
Of course there would have to be some that you cannot do this to, such as the Original Playstation store icon, most things under the GAME category, etc. All I want is a clean sleek looking XMB that I can be proud of. Oh and to get the watermark back instead of that clock thing. Seriously, who’s idea was it to make an analog clock right next to a digital one?
