LocoRoco Midnight Carnival Trailer – More “Boing” for Your Buck

39 24

A couple of weeks ago, I announced – right here on the PlayStation Blog – the latest and greatest from the beloved LocoRoco franchise was coming to the US soon. LocoRoco Midnight Carnival debuted at Gamescom in Germany, and people seemed to really like it, especially the PSPgo-friendly control scheme. By that I mean, you can play with the PSPgo closed since all you need is the two shoulder buttons to control the LocoRoco! It’s perfect for this new gaming device. Anyway, I’m back today because I want to share the first gameplay trailer to give you a closer look at the next installment of this fun and colorful franchise.

As you’ll notice in the trailer, LocoRoco Midnight Carnival features a super enhanced high bounce called “Boing!” You can navigate the LocoRoco by bouncing even higher off the walls and throughout the levels. It changes the gameplay dynamic and we think you’ll have a lot of fun with it.

Check out the trailer from the European PlayStation Blog, embedded below, and let us know what you think!

  • cocoreccho was very fun, still havent finished it, i really miss it, think ill play it now. my thx for you.

  • WAIT IS THIS GOING TO BE A FULL GAME OR AN ADD ON AND WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY GAMES LIKE GT 5 FOR PSP ON THE PSP 2000. IF I CANT I WILL SURELY BUY A PSP GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’m really excited about this, it’s definitely a day one purchase for me!

  • Will the demo be here within a month or so or maybe October time frame? I ordered a replacement screen because my screen broke and I’m hoping this will be the first thing I try when I get it fixed.

I wish all the other blogs had the admin or blog creator respond this much. Thanks for being really responsive. I think that’s the right thing to say, idk.

    • We\’re not exactly sure when we will be able to make the demo available, but let\’s just say the wait won\’t be TOO long :-)

…and as I have mentioned to others, thank you for the kind words. It\’s really nice to have the opportunity to reach out to all of you!

  • hahaha #50 how true! I agree with you. On the other hand however, I have rarely (IF EVER) seen any video game franchise giving their fans a sequel SO FREQUENTLY which is great cause they don’t have towait long to play new material from one of their favorite games. …and I love the developer JapanStudio not only because of LocoRoco, but because of Folklore whcihc has the best motion-sensing controls (will Folklore get trophies? dream-come-true, i know it won’t happen) and Genji days of the blade, the only game worth playing on the ps3 back in 2006 when the system just launched

  • Hello!

I love the fact that this is a downloadable title. I also appreciate the amount of comments you reply to. I have a couple of questions/comments I hope you can answer.

    1. Will this game have online as well as local multiplayer?

    2. This kind of reminds me of the Loco Roco 2 level where you have to bounce off of the various objects to pass through the mission without dying. Is that where the devs got the idea for this game? Because I loved that level.

    3. Will there be any sort of continuing storyline (ex: new evil menace threatening the loco roco’s and the baby planet)? Or will it just be a bunch of random mission/mini games?

    4. Are there a lot of multiplayer games?

    5. Please let the developers know that many people would think it would be great if the next Loco Roco PS3 had an option to use Six Axis controls. Thanks!

    • Hey there!

Let me try and answer your Q\’s here.

      1. Will this game have online as well as local multiplayer?

The title will support online ranking (global!) via the infrastructure mode. Players in the top 5 can upload their replay saves as well, to share w/ the rest of the world. Others who sadly missed the top 5 cut, can in turn download the replays for reference in hope to improve their game.

We will also be supporting multi-player Adhoc (up to 4 players) with both head to head, and with co-op. Stay tuned for details!

      2. This kind of reminds me of the Loco Roco 2 level where you have to bounce off of the various objects to pass through the mission without dying. Is that where the devs got the idea for this game? Because I loved that level.

You pretty much answered the question yourself :-)
The team was also inspired by the new PSP go hardware coming out, and originally planned for this title to be geared toward the hard core LocoRoco fans. We have found a good way to keep both experienced and novice players happy.

      3. Will there be any sort of continuing storyline (ex: new evil menace threatening the loco roco’s and the baby planet)? Or will it just be a bunch of random mission/mini games?

The core story line this time is, the BuiBui have gone off and created a little \”playground\” of their own. They wake LocoRoco up from beauty sleep, for a challenge.

Your objective is to help LocoRoco clear all the levels, and go back to peaceful sleeping.

      4. Are there a lot of multiplayer games?

All of the multiplayer elements explained above, apply to all the playable levels in the game.

      5. Please let the developers know that many people would think it would be great if the next Loco Roco PS3 had an option to use Six Axis controls. Thanks!

      Will do!
In fact the team in Tokyo also check the blogs and read your comments!

  • EXELENT cant wait 4 it love it

  • the game looks good im looking forward to it

  • I LOVE LocoRoco and I have them all! I was just wondering since you can play it with the screen closed…is there no need to separate the LocoRoco’s from one another? Because you would need the O button for that!!
Thanks again for taking the time out to talk to us:)
    Day 1 purchase for me!!

    • You can still split up/join the LocoRoco, however the new game mechanic for this time will not require for you to do this too much.

So technically, yes, you will have to open the PSP go to do this, but the chances of this happening during game play is very little.

  • I have a question. In the past games you used to circle button to separate and come back together, but since you can play this with the PSP GO closed, there’s no access to the circle button. Can we not separate anymore?

  • I would like to put my voice into the large crowd asking for more Locoroco on PS3. At the very least, I would like to see an update to the existing game that adds trophies and perhaps better quality audio.

I love the music in the game, and it would be great to hear it in lossless (and/or 24-bit!) quality. I really appreciated when the last Echochrome patch made some minor improvements in the audio quality.

I love how Sony keeps supporting these older titles to extend their long tail of sales. I hope they do this with Locoroco (as well as Everyday Shooter, Lemmings, and Elefunk).

  • So what’s lightning/divide? That seems like a large part of gameplay.

  • Does SCEA plan on bringing out any Locoroco merchandise? Maybe even some virtual items in Home? I tried to win the contest last time but unfortunately it never happened. I really wanted one of those pens :(
