Fallout 3 Downloadable Content on PSN

Hello PlayStation fans. I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios, here to give everyone an update on when Fallout 3 DLC will be available via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Anchorage PS3

We’re excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking. Here’s a brief look at the DLC you’ll be able to play.

  • Operation: Anchorage (pictured above) – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
  • The Pitt (pictured below) – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.
  • Broken Steel (pictured below) – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game’s level cap to 30.
  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Fallout 3 Broken Steel PS3 Fallout 3 - Pitt PS3

What can you expect from our DLC?

  • More Fallout 3 Goodness – More weapons, more creatures, more armor and outfits, more characters to interact with, and more loot. You’ll find all of these within the unique new locations of Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
  • DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC.
  • Support for existing characters and saves – Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101). You can play the DLC whenever you want — with one exception (see Broken Steel below).

So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the Main Quest, the level cap will already be raised and higher level characters will begin encountering some of the new enemies in the Capital Wasteland. For the release of Broken Steel and the other DLCs, we’ll release a new update for the game.

After Broken Steel, we’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt shortly thereafter, probably at the same time – just to get them out to you as soon as we can. After that we’ll have Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta available as soon as we can, so that the wait between DLC is as short as possible. Once we release Broken Steel, we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.

We hope you enjoy Fallout 3’s DLC. Thank you for your patience. They’ll be here before you know it.

no, they were paid my Microsoft for time exclusive for the DLC. It has nothing to do with Blu-Ray or standard DVD because these DLC will be on the playstation store.

  • I’m gonna get the GOTY edition anyway. Let’s hope the packs aren’t broken.

  • It is great that the ps3 version is finally getting the dlc’s and also getting news on release dates and other information on the blog by Bethesda.

All I ask from Bethesda is to please re-think the way that you go about making deals for exclusivity on dlc’s in the future. While it may sound good at first, it can leave a bad taste in people’s mouths later on down the road as you can see in some of the posts here.

I know that there is alot of flaming going on here but please keep us posted with updates on the blog.

    Thanks, Nite

  • i think this attitude is because there are people out there that will pay a monthly fee to play online games. There are people out there that pay more for DLC is some kind of point system transformed from real currency.

There are even people out there that will pay full price for gears of war 1 2 years after release with no sight of greatest hits deal. Hell, these same people will buy the sequel with more glitches and problems than socom confrontation & socom is a discount game.

i dont know, these people seem to make these devs think that they can get away with murder… until they mess with ps3 gamers. were not easliy impressed.

  • what i am sick of is why do we have to pay for dlc`s at all the content should be in the game all ready from the start . i am sick of getting my pocket picked every time a new game comes out ,i am old school been playing 30 yrs in the past when u bought a game u got it all not part of it .GET UR HANDS OUT OF MY POCKETS

  • no its not that bro were not jus getting part of the game we got a full game we did dlc is a way to keep the game alive after you beat the full game look at burnout paradise for example or pc expansion packs there jus a way to keeep us playing the game and enjoy even more on that the graphice couldve been a bit shaper for the ps3 vesion since it is way better system

  • i got a question for the bethsoft team wich im sure you get alot of emalis abt when can we expect oblivion trophies??????

  • @255 Bobflac

Don’t be stupid. Fallout 3 on its own is more then a full game. These packs are exactly what DLC should be, ad ons. They are extensions of the universe. These DLC are not a rip off like some other ad ons out there (cough Motorstorm Cough).

  • i know.
i mean dam, heres sony making a bluray that can fit 50gb of space. yet, most of these games are chopped up for some dlc to make some extra money when it could have been on the disc day 1.

I dont know whats worse? That dvd games are the same price of full bluray games and blurays are a discount or dvd games are totally overpriced. I know not all ps3 games are full but even with games like inFamous it shows where the attention to detail went.

I dont get mad a littlebigplanet because its cheap for the costumes and if you were creative enough you could make your own.

Look at naruto ultimate storm. The dlc has been free ever since and its good. looking at the game i might be able to understand that this dlc didnt fit on the disc because of how awesome naruto U.S. is. im no techie but it seems right.
these multiplatform games are getting annoying now. its makes more sence to wait a year before buying a multiplatform game and spend about $85 dollars for thier dvd and dlc to get a complete game that has been updated a few times than to go to the store and show support for a game on day 1.

Thats what were all finding out anyways with these multiplats today.

  • Thenks for finally bringing DLC to the ps3 but I was sort of expecting it by now.

Whats the cause of the delay from june to september?

Also with the GOTY being relleased in october is it really worth buying DLC seperatly if it will cost more?

  • P.S
motorstorm is awesome & after a while if sony feels the price is a bit much they will lower it.

Motorstorm DLC is more about supporting thier efforst than disc space which seems fair since motorstorm rocks, they updated it and they handed out free livery and signature packs before putting a price tag on map packs. are you getting the difference that im trying to explain? there is a difference. theres a good way, a bad way and a ugly way of expanding your games.

    Bethesda is ugly.

  • One more reason to wait and trade the original in towards the GOTY edition.

  • Ashley Chung, you aren’t getting a dime from me. You morons ticked me off with your “timed exclusives” for Xbox. Thanks a lot. Way to alienate a bunch of your customers.

  • Oh man. First the tight-lipped timed exclusive garbage with Microsoft and now this.

I can’t wait for Bethesda to use the “lower than expected FO3 DLC sales on PSN” excuse when explaining lack of PS3 support for their next game.

  • where is she anyways? wheres the fallout 3 representative? Ashey chung. poor girl.

I guess she ran away in tears.
Ooooh how I so wish it was todd who was here at the blog. it would have been more amusing to see him slither away like a snake in the grass.

I think bethesda got the point now. Im done with this Buy AMerican crap company now.

  • I have a question. The version I have of the game is region 3. Will the DLC and/or the game of the year edition be compatible with my save files? Thanks.

  • DeathMagnetic-04

Will the goty edition have anything besides all the DLC?

  • @30
I agree with BloodyCow even no your my friend lol Sony does do great for online Id rather have home and all that then DLC’s earlyer but stillBethesda has screewed us ever since the game came out even though it is a good idea for BS to come out first but really I was goona get layed on thursday but NO that ended fucl(in @$$ holes damn

  • BTW BETHESDA IF YOU SUPORT US WE WILL SUPORT YOU insomniac, noughty dog and a few others have lerned that why cant you!

  • Treat all the platforms fairly you money grubbing A-Holes! I hope no one buys this crap.

  • Wow, Bethseda is showing more love to the PS3 and its fans? Great news!!!

*Give Jack Tretton a raise!* XD

  • When they first announced that DLC was coming at the end of June, I was excited to pick it up. Delaying it to the busy season was a bad move. I might get it eventually, but Assassins Creed 2 is coming first for me.

  • @273
Same here so R&C and uncharted are all on my list over this

  • 80% of the comments here are nothing but butthurt. It’s very, very funny reading this.

Very glad the DLC’s coming to PS3, but i’m just going to wait it out for the GOTY edition. Thanks for bringing the expansions to the Sony side though. (Would get the DLC on 360 but I could use more Trophies than I could Gamerscore. Plus the $50 I save isn’t half bad. :P)

    And those of you whining?
Go play some other games and learn some patience. Fallout 3 isn’t the only game out there.

Thanks once again, Bethesda. (Just one thing- PLEASE don’t delay the GOTY edition further or I will punch someone. Not sure who.)

  • Damn, they didn’t even spit on it before they put it to us like that. Wish I was wearing lipstick, I like to look pretty when a royal screwing takes place. It takes time????!!!! Well maybe Bethesda, if you stopped concerning yourselves with non stop pats on the back, tracking down every single review your product receives, and hugging each other about all the awards that WE THE CONSUMER made possible in the first place, maybe I would still be interested in your future contribution to the world of gaming. I have shelled out enough dollars. You see you made a game that was very well received, and if you are a strong fan and collect anything having to do with the game then tell me the point of buying a collectors edition lunchbox ( a very nice package by the way) including everything BUT DLC because oh that’s right, PS3 does not get that privilege, then turn around and say in October we can buy it again with all the DLC???!!!! When I put my hand in my pocket I can you yank out my leg hair because that’s how far my arm can reach at this point. Very sad…..

  • Amazing. Simply Amazing. The complete lack of competence in a company such as bethesda is really astounding. Great game concepts and ideas, but execution is mediocre at best. I was really looking forward to the DLC to get me through the summer. But now I dont see any point. End of September, which I have no faith in by the way, puts me a week out of buying Operation Flashpoint: DR and a month out of getting Modern Warfare 2. While different types of games, gaming time is all the same to me. And money spent is money spent. Poor decision on bethesdas part. So whenever you do release New Vegas, the alleged next chapter in this highly enjoyable franchise, if you are in bed with MS, please tell us so we can then postpone the release date for ps3 users by 2 years so we dont waste our money buying a 2nd rate version of the game. 2 YEARS!!! Take that and put it you know where. I know I wont be buying the next Fallout for a while after release so as to make sure I wont be getting screwed on a suprise announcement of DLC and I recommend the same to all PS3 users out there.

  • Not surprised with all the backlash that Bethesda is getting but I can’t blame anyone for being angry. I too am tired of getting the short end of the stick. I know a lot of people who couldn’t put up with the freezing whenever the notification came up. Though a patch did fix this, I couldn’t understand why it slipped into the final build of the game.

Everyone has the freedom to choose which system to play on. And believe me, I wouldn’t want 360 users getting the short end of the stick if it was the other way around. Equality in gaming? Will it ever happen?

  • Took long enough! But I’m gonna wait for the GOTY edition.

  • LittleSpaceDoubt

September? By that time I’ll be playing NHL ’10 constantly. Oh well.. I’ll still pick up the DLC for those moments when I get angry at myself for losing at hockey and need to shoot some raiders.

  • Yay, Bethesda! I knew you wouldn’t let us down.

  • I’ll be waiting on the GOTY version. I’ve waited this long, so I might as well save some money. Hopefully, no blood grass glitch!

  • Bethesda Softworks is just as bad as the tobacco company’s robbing money from cancer victims your people Ashely are putting two items up on the shelf nearly at the same time so you can stuff your pockets, but meanwhile look at the economy NO Means NO and I am never getting another product from you.

  • I really would have bought Fallout 3 for the PS3 if you, Bethesda, hadn’t become such cuddly friends with Micro$oft. You should have expected that you would get this kind of reaction. I shall keep my money in my wallet now, thanks to you.

So some people are happy that you’ve finally given them want they wanted. And how do you reward them with their patience and loyalty? Releasing the DLC MONTHS after it was released on other platforms and for the same price. Why should PS3 owners pay the same for the DLC? How long did you make us wait?

Even IF I decided on getting the content, I have no faith in your “game testing”. You pulled both Operation Anchorage and The Pitt off the MS servers the same day as you put them up because they were so buggy.

I’m sorry Bethesda, but you’ve lost my loyalty and my support.

  • I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: if a game is multi-platform, everyone should have the full benefit of everything said game has to offer. There should not be a case where 360 owners have access to content that PS3 owners do not. Should not be. No matter how much Microsoft paid for that right, that doesn’t make it right, and it only leaves PS3 gamers with a sour taste in our collective mouth… and that taste was already pretty damned sour what with all the bugs and glitches already in the game with NO SIGN of support from Bethesda. Now suddenly we’re supposed to dance the Happy Happy Joy Joy because you guys FINALLY, over a year later, deem us worthy of paying full price for content 360 owners have played and moved on from already? Yeah, right. I, for one, am not impressed. Hope the paycheck MS gave you guys was worth it, because like Valve and Rockstar, you guys totally sold us out, as if our $65 was nothing at all.

  • Considering that Broken Steel wasn’t coming out until August/September, anyway, this delay doesn’t bother me. Thank you, Bethesda. Just please make sure they are as bug-free as possible.

On the other hand, while I may understand why some of you are upset, do you honestly think you’ll be hurting anyone but fellow PS3 owners with a boycott? Yeah, buy the GOTY used, so 360 sales will be that much higher than PS3 sales. Yeah, enjoy not seeing PS3 versions anymore. It’s this attitude that makes it so we may not get Tales of Vesperia for the NA PS3. Your silly complaints don’t do anything but harm all of us.

  • Bethesda, based on the majority you’re not welcome here. I wish we could vote to never allow you to post on this blog again.

  • @275 Razer922
way to miss the point of people anger and frustration

    @281 megs1120
Please tell me you are being sarcastic.

    @278 MAzing87

The patch did not fix anything. I got the game used after the patch and still experience freezing like there is no tomorrow.

  • @clupula668
What does ToV have to do with Fallout 3? Many PS3 owners, including myself, cannot wait for that game (ToV) and it is a day one purchase. I was going to buy it for my 360 waited because I knew it was coming to the PS3.

Do you think any of us gives a dam about sales? I play games, not sales. Speaking of sales, if the PS3 version sell bad, then they can come back to this blog post and find out why. They have no one to blame but themselves. Give consumers (PS3 owners that purchase this game) the middle finger then come back to nickle and dimes the hell out of us. Developer like these have no class what so ever. I buy 99% of all my games new, the other 1% is when I cannot find a new copy or when a developer decide to screw over part of their fan-base.

  • In one of the previous comments there was a question about the pricing and if we would get a discount. If I’m correct, 360 users received a discount for Operation: Anchorage. I understand that all of the content cannot be discounted but I think it’d only be fair to the PS3 community while also helping restore some fan base with a discounted O:A. We did all believe that the content would come out late last month and waited until just now to hear it would be out towards the end of the year. I think it would be a wise business move.

  • @ 17 Response from Ashley
“The pricing for DLC on PSN is the same as it is on the other platforms.”

WTF CAN YOU ANSWER THE FREAKING QUESTION? THIS ISN’T ONE OF THE “OTHER PLATFORMS” IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED. SOME OF US AREN’T AWARE OF THE PRICE BECAUSE SOME OF US DON’T OWN THOSE OTHER PLATFORMS. WHERES YOUR PROFESSIONALISM?

    @189
I was thinking the same thing here.

  • i dont know why i hv yet to pick this up. I might get the goty edition.

  • There’s little I can say that hasn’t already been said, but I’ll say this: I hope you take this criticism the way it’s intended, and better your future products. Your first impressions on the PS3 were exemplary, with an excellent version of Oblivion that I was happy to purchase despite having the PC version from launch with all DLC…even Horse Armour. From this great start, you disappointed many, including myself, with your DLC deal with Microsoft. I will purchase all the Fallout 3 DLC in the good faith that you learned something from the experience, and I look forward to purchasing The Elder Scrolls V with all DLC on the PS3.

I love your work, Bethesda, and I look forward to be treated as a valued fan.

  • Good evening PSB, its about time Fallout 3 DLC is finally coming to PS3. how about a home space to accommodate that. i was a little disappointed with the june window being missed, but its ok, patience is a virtue.

  • @244 fromyesterday

i don’t think they really had a choice about fixing those issues…Well, some of them. The game was completely unplayable before then.

Now it’s just mildly unplayable. When i played it it froze every time i shot a Deathclaw, meaning i had to try and run away whenever i saw one coming. Not a good idea.

    Bad support is bad

  • I’ve held off on buying this game because while I heard it was a great experience the bugs, glitches, and random freezes aren’t what I call fun.

I also think its pretty absurd that you guys are charging full price for DLC that has been out for ages on the 360.

I’ll stick with Devs who treat their community players properly. Uncharted 2 for the win.

  • im glad that its finally comin out in the ps3, but i agree wit the rest of the fans that bethesda royally screwed ps3 owners. should atleast offer the dlc at a discount.

  • @293 Just wanted to let you know that the PS3 version of Oblivion was ported by 2K games.

  • ok, so i’m not gonna pretend that this project isn’t a lot of work for you, bethesda. i’m not a dev or programmer, but i’m not stupid enough to believe this is easy work.

i’m also not going to share my opinion on the fact that we didn’t get DLC at the same time as the other platforms. you’ve heard plenty of that.

however, i think this was a bad decision. it doesn’t make sense that you couldn’t make sure OA was working and then release it this month; then make sure The Pitt was working on its own and together with OA then release it; then make sure Broken Steel was working on its own and with the other 2 then release it…etc, etc.

i also can’t believe that so many people were so stupid…asking for broken steel to be released first??? what’s wrong with people? you should have known that requesting that would just mean that we would have to wait until broken steel was going to be released in the first place and then wait for the other 2 as well.

for those who are mad about this wait and *made* that request…this is YOUR fault.

  • FINALLY…..DLC COMETH FORTH. Well I’m not getting it cause I would rather wait for the GOTY edition because my friend has my copy which I gave to him in the first place for his birthday…ohh well…the waiting game starts

  • @283 Doug Carlson

Your analogy is pretty ridiculous. While I’m not happy about the playing off timed exclusives as permanent exclusives, delays, etc. They hardly rise to the same level as the tobacco company’s practices.
