Killzone 2 DLC #3 – “Napalm & Cordite” (and flames and bolts)

Hello there PlayStation Blog! It’s good to be back. And it’s even better to be back with some exciting news for you guys. There is a new DLC pack incoming, called Napalm & Cordite. It has flames and bolts will fulfill the wishes of many of our weirdest fans. There will be more info on that next week, for now let’s focus on the patch.

As with any good DLC, it needs a great patch. We’ve been scouring the forums, stopping and interrogating you in the streets and using futuristic mind-reading technology* to find out what you wanted changed in Killzone 2 and have done our best to try and accommodate that with our patches. So it is time for the latest and greatest update to come to Killzone 2, imaginatively titled: Patch 1.28. (How we come up with these snappy names I’ll never know)

So without further ado, here is the official press-release with the list of new features and fixes for you to go through and discuss further. I’ll be hanging around the comments section for a wee while, so feel free to ask any questions you might have regarding the below, or anything Killzone related.

On Tuesday, June July 14th 2009 at 8AM Greenwich Mean Time, Guerrilla Games will release the 10th update for the visceral shooter, Killzone 2.

Patch 1.28 will be 91MB in size (316MB for Asian release) and will be released worldwide simultaneously pending a server update. There will be an anticipated server down-time of about 2 hours while the patch is rolled out and the server updates are completed and tested. The following fixes and features are included in this latest release:

  • Feature – Code support for DLC pack III “Napalm & Cordite”. The update will enable players to create games with the newest maps “Suljeva Cliffside” and “Arctower Landing”
  • Feature – Code support for DLC to allow the additions of the Flamethrower and the Boltgun to multiplayer.
  • Trophies – New trophies added for DLC pack III “Napalm and Cordite”.
  • Feature – Detailed information screen when browsing games. Items displayed include: Friendly Fire, Faction Balancing, Custom Weapons and Custom Badges as well as the region, game size, selected maps and allowed Missions and Badges.

  • Feature – Higher values for Bodycount mode. Players can now create games with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200 points to increase the time of the mode for 32 player games.
  • Feature – Moderators can now create double-points events.
  • Fix for persistent squads now working correctly when users using separate Japanese accounts join Friends.
  • New loading screens.
  • Moderation – Additional powers and functionality for online moderators.
  • Fix for Clan Leader leaving his clan before an active Tournament of Clan Challenge.
  • Fix for score replication on different clients.
  • Fix for a Clan Challenge results displaying a won/lost games as a ‘Draw’.
  • Fix for incorrect Tournament timings being displayed for (semi)-final.
  • Fix for an empty message pop-up being displayed.
  • ‘High Precision Mode’ now defaulting when requested.
  • Fix for stuttering audio on the Asian version.
  • Fix for network error displayed when trying to log in with another users account.
  • Fix to reduce network traffic and improve performance.
  • Fix for occasionally being displayed an empty background when ‘Join Friend’ via Communications tab.
  • Exploit – Pyrrhus Rise map boundary fix.
  • Exploit – Radec Academy collision fix to prevent players being revived inside a pillar and using it to their advantage.
  • Cosmetic fix for Medic Gun visual effects.
  • Cosmetic fix for Search & Retrieve object being cloaked by the Scout.
  • Cosmetic fix for Scouts body remaining cloaked after being mortally wounded (i.e. headshot).
  • Gameplay – Damage from Sentry bots tweaked back on request of the community.
  • Collection of minor code fixes.

  • About the SENTRY BOTS change
    I though about it some more, and the way they are now is perfect.
    They are a great weapon against SPAWN CAMPERS, and it balances the game play when there are way too many snipers around.

    Maybe just allow to deploy a max of two instead of three at the time.

    But please do not tweak back the Damage from the Sentry bots

    You’re right Sentries are perfect right now. They shouldn’t be changed again. Except maybe tweak their headshot chances somehow.

    Oh and it’s 2 per team, not 3. It’s 4 in total.

  • Seb, are you guys still looking into adding more control layout options?? All I want is the option to aim with L2 and fire with R2!

  • and yes, please do not change the damage level back on the sentry bots. it is fine the way they are!

  • hey guys! i love what your doing with the DLC an all, but can you please make the trophies a bit more challenging? its a bit expensive at the previous ones because the trophies were so easy, but if you made them harder everyone would get so much more out of the packs. thanks!

  • Seb, I’m a huge fan of Killzone and have been since day 1 of Killzone 1. And Killzone 2 is a dream come true for any fan of the first game. I’ll buy any content you guys put out for the game as long as it stays fairly priced like it has been. (alot of people complain about $5.99 for 2 maps, but I know the kind of work that goes into maps for basic games like UT3, for Killzone 2 maps, I can’t even imagine all the work that goes into them. For 2 maps in Killzone 2, $5.99 is a bargain. Anyway……) But I don’t know what part of the community you are listening to with scaling the air turret damage back down. They were useless before. Please, don’t listen to cry babies that are just complaining that they are getting killed. Air turrets are actually getting kills now, if you scale them back down again, they won’t and you’ll just have more people complaining about that.

    I think you guys should bundle Steel & Titanium and Flash & Thunder for $10. So that way I can play with some new people the new maps.( I have the two map packs I just want to see more games with these maps.) Day one purchase for Map Pack #3.

  • I hope this is the last of the DLC, it’s already getting to be too much like LBP. Hopefully you guys do a bundle and discount it so I can buy all 3 DLC.

  • Why Patch 1.28 will be *316 MB* for Asian release?

  • Although I’ll probably be purchasing the DLC, I would like it if They released all DLC for free at a later date, so that Everyone plays the DLC maps. Most games still exclude the DLC out there.

  • Also is there anyway to add dedicated servers? Warhawk did this perfectly with dedicated servers and P2P games.

  • Sounds good count me in for the DLC maps, the last two were awesome and Flash and Thunder the best of the two. Can’t wait to see what comes out of these new maps.

    However I think it is time consider an expansion to KZ2 that allows us to co-op with a friend online (I’d say locally but I’ve seen what that has done to gears so pass). I’d like to see a short 5 to 8 hour experience that can be played with a friend on a side story. It can even intermingle with the main plot if so desired just as long as I get a co-op mode with trophies.

Unfortunately, the only way to get to it is through a gauntlet of morons posing as management and co-workers to earn a mere $150 for a repair… I’m not sure if the end warrants the means.   • First the updates included trophies that were just downright laughable…and now the updates features trophies that are just downright stupid.

    Its hard enough for most players to get 20 kills in a single round, let alone with a single weapon…let alone 50!!! I think Sony needs to drop Guerilla and hire someone else to take the Killzone reigns. They’re effing this up all kinds of stupid.

    Any chance of adding a regular free for all deathmatch mode? Being on a team is good, but sometimes I wanna have a free for all with my friends and just run around killing all of them without limitations of them being on my team.

  • Man, I wish that they would released a DLC that has to do with single player campaigns. I dont really care for the multiplayer side of KZ2. How about it? I can’t be the only one.

  • Any plans on expanding the voice communication so it is not limited to only the four people in your squad? and increasing it to team wide voice chat? Havent played since early april so I don’t know if this has been added, but it was one of the reasons I left the game due to it seeming like a TDM on every mode thanx to no team communication.

  • Anyone know if the Valor trophies are awarded at the end of the week or right when you make it to say 10, 6, 3%? I think I made it to the top 3% for the week last night but still only have my 10% award from the prior week.

    Any tips would be great.

  • Glad Guerilla is continuing to support KZ2, as soon as I am done with infamous I’m going to finish my Elite run and nab the rest of the online trophies (and hopefully the platinum in the process).

  • why are you weakening the sentry bots? yeah, sometimes theyre annoying but ive learned to deal with them, and now those ribbons are going to be harder to get
