PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

Happy Sunday to you…
Here’s our list of the stories from around the web that caught our eye this week. Big focus on our Seattle-born games (inFAMOUS, MAG), as well as some late hits on the NIS Event this week in SF, which showcased some new, exclusive titles on all 3 PlayStation platforms that should please RPG fans.

But surely, we’ve missed some good stories. Do share, in the comments below.

Yo Jeff, hope you’re still responding. Its 9:40 here. Any upcoming Heavy Rain news? Before E3, at E3… I have a feeling it’s going to be the next title to push the boundaries. Any comment?

Some things I’d like to hear about:

Demon’s Souls. The complete silence on this sleeper hit is baffling. Import stores are struggling to keep up with demand, the game is in English but no word of a US/EU release. Not even a mention.

Afrika/Aquanauts Holiday. Same thing, there are English versions available at online import stores but no news if they will get a Western release. At the least Sony could put them on PSN.

Sackboy toys. Recently 5000 were given away in the UK. They looked awesome and would make a great kids present. Why hasn’t Sony followed this up by announcing they will be on sale? They’ve already been designed, manufactured and Sony drops the ball. Epic fail by Sony’s marketing.

I’d like to see more full games coming to PSN too in the same vein as Burnout Paradise, Warhawk, GT5P. Think this is a huge wasted opportunity. Maybe Sony could approach publishers of mid-tier 3rd party games (eg. Dark Sector, Afro Samurai) for a second chance option, PSN release 3-6 months after retail.

******ATTENTION SONY REPS! IN REGARDS TO PUZZLE QUEST:GALACTRIX******

(I understand this is unrelated to anything, but I had nowhere else to post this to get a response)

There is a fault with the trophy compatibility within PQ:G… I found after playing the game and receiving the first trophy you get (FLT Travel; I got it at 10:39 am 5/8/09), the Trophy Collection tab constantly has to sync, but worse yet, under the Friends tab, viewing my profile not only needs constant syncing, but the trophy image never showed up AND was not counted in my total I believe. This may just be a minor issue or I may be just complaining about something that only has any justification in bragging rights, but I felt someone should inform Sony about this minor hiccup.

By the way. Is there any hope that we’d ever be able to change our PlayStation Network names, even for a small fee? I know we can just create new names for free, but it’s not as easy once you start getting trophies to do that.

Also, sorry for the double-post, but are we getting new PlayStation Network avatars soon? I mean, I heard we are, but I don’t want it to be a small amount that won’t update again until next year. Nearly everybody on my friend’s list has the same exact Avatar, and making new Avatar’s downloadable or allowing us to use our own would be much appreciated and better to differentiate one friend from another.

question about infamous…i was going to pre-order this game but i got my money stolen at school so doing everything possible to get it again so i can play that demo that we want so badly!!! one question though, the demo will be available earlier for people who pre-ordered right? where do we have to buy infamous to get that code? or is it that the code will get sent to us via psn or email? can i still get the demo if i pre-order the game now?
now for MAG, how will the beta be for it? i read from playstation blog that this game is too big to download, so how will the beta be like? and what do we need to get the beta? thank you jeff for taking the time to read these comments!!!

I would also like to hear more information about Demon’s Souls. A lot of people are importing it and saying that it is one of the best games on the PS3. The asian version already has english voice/text. I would buy the game the second it was released in NA. Demon’s Souls (From) and Yukuza 3 (Sega) need to be released here (make it happen).

Also, any news about Quantum Theory (Tecmo)? I think it was shown at the last E3 (or TGS), but I haven’t seen anything about it since then.

lawl, yeah sounds like your very excited for Yakuza 3 even though you mispelled it twice, btw speaking of Yakuza, are you guys still working on improving backward compatibility? I haven’t been able to beat Yakuza because it freezes at the beginning of certain chapters, btw I have the 80gb mgs4 ps3

Afrika! Curious if a NA version is still in the works, even as a PSN title. This title would be great as a DL, provided it doesn’t eat up a lot of hard drive space. My preschooler would love it. Daddy wouldn’t mind it either ;)

Glad to know the PS3 is doing very good in Japan. I was very impressed and suprised the PS3 does better in Japan then in US and Europe.

Here’s something I’m wondering about as well. At first the game was suppose to release in Europe, under the name of National Geographic, believe it or not, but haven’t heard about it ever since :-( From my experience with Aquanaut’s Holiday, um, translations aren’t always top notch in Asian / English games.

SOM ETHING IM WAITING FOR PS TO DO IS TO TAKE THE PSEYE AND MAKE IT SO YOU CAN RECORD YOU OWN EXPRESSIONS AND PUT THEM INTO THE GAME IT SELF. LIKE WHEN IM PLAYING MLB 09 THE SHOW AND I HIT A HOMERUN OR SCORE A RBI I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MY FACE ON THE PLAYER AND THE PLAYER CELEBRATING THE WAY I DO AT HOME. THAT IS A HUGE PS UPDATE AND IT WILL BE WORTH IT TO PLAYERS LIKE MY SELF THAT GOT THE PS EYE AND CAN’T DO TOO MUCH WITH IT. IT WILL ALSO BOOST UP A HELL OF ALOT OF SELLS FOR THE PS3 AND ALSO THE PS EYE.
