I Wanna Take YoU 4 A Ride this Thursday!

What’s up P-Essers? I’m here today to announce the imminent arrival of one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. You’ve seen the ESRB leak. You’ve seen the MadCatz joysticks. You probably visited a cryptic sight called www.tu4ar.com that just counted down to zero.

If you’ve been paying attention to my blogs and interviews, I’ve been leaking info about this day for quite some time. We conducted this Gamespot poll back in March of 2008 to gauge interest on what games you want to see us bring back. We listened to your feedback and tried to work quietly on the project. Well, as you know, I’m not the quiet type (the PR Ninjas here don’t like me so much). There was this MTV interview in June of last year, my PS blog on August 14th alluding to a Street Fighter surprise, and numerous blogs after that teasing this announcement.

So what’s the announcement? Here it is, officially:

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Summer 2009

Yes that’s right. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will finally arrive on PSN this summer! For more information on the full game, go visit Capcom-Unity.com.

But wait, there’s more. Here’s the freaking ace up our sleeve:

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Store Banner

This Thursday, April 30, PlayStation Network users will enjoy a free, exclusive MVC2 demo! No need to purchase another game, just download it straight to your PS3 and get ready for some triple tag team action (A big thank you goes out to Rommel Hernandez who helped make this exclusive demo possible).

Here are the details of the demo:

  • Two-player local matches
  • Six available characters – Ryu, Chun-Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine
  • Seven selectable environments
  • Upscaled 1080p graphics
  • Widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Two graphic filter options for character sprites
  • And other cool options to check out

Make sure you visit www.tu4ar.com for the latest MVC2 news and follow us on Twitter for special promotions and prizes!

And I’ll leave you with one last, cool little video, exclusive to the PlayStation Blog. This is an alternate music version of the trailer on tu4ar.com.

Enjoy!

From your friendly neighborhood Capcom employee,

John “HIERO 9D3” Diamonon

  • @John – (sorry for caps im tooo excited!!)JOHN YOU ARE THE MAN YOU ARE THE AWESOMEST MAN ON EARTH!!!. I WAS JUST THINKING OF HOW I MISS THIS GAME COMING FROM SCHOOL AND THEN I GO ON THE BLOG AND.. BAM! OMG! I LOVE CAPCOM!! YOU GUYS ROOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCKKKKKK!!!
*Hums the theme Song of MVC!*

  • btw, love in a non-homo way :D

  • No one wants Mega Man Legends 3 & Power Stone 3 either.

    Right John =P

…hey that’ll be a good marketing ploy. Since those three games have the #3 in them, you announce them all on the same day.

Do it on March(3) 3rd next year lol ;D

The magic #/theme of the announcement will be 3! haha

…actually announcing all those three games at once might cause some people a heart attack in excitement they wouldn’t be able to contain…but oh well! ITS A RISK CAPCOM WILL HAVE TO TAKE! lol

  • John,

between you and I, LP2.. we gettin it :-)?

  • LP2 = Lost planet 2? Who wants it?

If it’s a horrible port like the first one I’ll pass.

Now I do hope we get MVC3. You guys could take as much time that you can. Just bring it please. the demand is huge.

  • 2010 is fine because…2+0+1+0 = 3

    and 2011… 2+0+1-1 = 3

    2012…2+0-1+2 = 3

    2013…2+0-1+3 =/= 3

2010 through 2012 are would be acceptable dates. But 2010 works best though, it’s more consistent with the math to get the 3 >:3

  • This is why I’m not good at math lol

    2010 or 2012, disregard my 2011 math ;D

  • Hey I know people are crazy about these old school fighters. But can I get an upgraded HD ABES ODDWORLD PUHLEEEEEAAAAAASEEEEEE!!!!!!

  • @ john real talk i appreciate how the capcom community is trying to please their consumers cause i sure as hell will pay you whatever you want for a MVC3 and Powerstone 3 I’m at your will capcom just keep the classic coming hopefully this’ll return the fighting genre over the FPS genre let’s bring back the days of classic gaming cause i remember buying a psone for the mere fact every classic capcom game was on psone and i’ve been happy since!! (cough cough) breath of fire also (cough cough!!)

  • Mr. Diamonon you should tell the awesome team at Capcom (you are included in it) that they really should consider making Marvel vs. Capcom 3 using the SF4 engine & add all the new characters from Capcom’s latest games (Dante, Samanosuke, Frank West, Chris, Leon,…etc.)as well as other great dudes from the Marvel universe.

  • hey john how about first person to hit 1,000 gets a free code or something :D

  • John btw, are we still going to have the same menu song theme that was on the first game?
    I hope soo! -.-

  • Since the world is going to end in 2012 according to the Mayan calender can I have the “promise” that i’ll get it for free? If indeed the mayans are right then no sweat off your back but if they are wrong well I’m up a game. That sounds fair, right?!?

  • John – your compadre-in-crime Colin created and posted about Monster Hunter Unite coming to the PSP. Any details about perhaps when we might get the next installment?

    <3 Capcom

  • Well we have until December 2012.

March is before December so it’s all good! lol

  • FYI – The end of the Mayan calendar doesn’t signify the end of the world…only the birth of a new Mayan calendar. You guys watch too much of those suggestive Discovery Channel specials. LOL :)

  • Hello John. I so can’t wait. How has Ro Hernandez helped with the exclusivity of the demo? Thank him for me or have him blog. Is he on capcom-unity.com somewhere? I remember feeling how crappy it felt when 360 got the HD Remix beta, but this, for me personally, is the better deal. I have been dying for MvC2 without the ebay price tag. Having online is going to make it even better.

Obviously my PSN ID is sNsKid so message me!

  • What!!! The discovery Channel would never lie to me.

  • Im laughing out loud. Upscaled 1080p? HA!

Ill play this game on the system in which it is the best, Dreamcast. Online, LAN or splitscreen. I dont need PSN.

    Been owning MvC2 since release.

    n00bs.

  • John, if you try real hard, you can hear the tears of the ebayers who were selling this for crazy prices, thanks capcom!

IN YOUR FACE EBAYERS, MAKE MONEY LIKE THE REST OF US HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • hey john how come the demo doesnt have vs comp on there ?

  • I’m surprised at the lack of codes being given out >_>

  • Hmm, I was on capcom-unity.com just now and I saw that there are three shaders for the PC version to choose from. Is there any chance that PS3 users will see this? I would love to have an option like that.

  • @John

Any word on when those PSone classics will start appearing on the Store? Will we be getting any news in the next few weeks?

  • John,

Thanks so much for the game and the support. Definitely looking forward to playing the demo…my PS2 copy groans in its old age everytime I pop it out of the case these days. Three thoughts:

    1. On the demo movie over on Gamespot, it looks like a more-or-less fully-functional PS3 version of the game running. So, why do we have to wait until summer? Is there development yet to be done, or are we looking to stave off any dilution of SFIV and Wolverine movie game sales? ;)

    2. I see you mentioned PSOne classics earlier…such as?

    3. MvC3 really ought to happen. And, Amaterasu (Okami) really ought to be in there.

Thanks again and continued success and all that…

    ~R

  • @372

    Here’s a code for you.

    H8GH-6YDO-1ELK

That code is good for nohing, feel free to do with it as you please.

  • I is be da happies now.

  • Hey John, I hope you are still replying to the comments. The trailer and the game is absolutely fantastic!!! I can’t wait!!!!! I wanted to ask will there be MvC madcatz arcade stick? If yes is there gonna be enough of them for everybody?:):):) Thanks for the awesome game and that you are taking time to respond to all of these comments.

  • Hey John thanks for continuing to answer, you mentioned a few pages you were disappointed how the trophy situation for BC:R turned out. Does that mean the legendary patch isn’t happening?

  • john, stop ignoring my dead rising question haha.

You guys never promised trophies for BCR or SF2HDR… but you did say ‘theyre in our plans… stay tuned’… which is PR speak for ‘its never coming, but at least theres false hope’.

thanks for replying to questions past the first page,,, even if you don’t respond to mine haha

    • lol..don\’t be so cynical.

BCR trophies was said to be available at launch, but plans had changed for that.

SFHD – I said they wouldn\’t be available at launch. There\’s a very small outside chance that it gets it in some way (I know, that\’s very cryptic), but no promises were made.

  • John you forgot to mention, how does he enjoy playing the game onl- oh wait…

    @illmatic

I have a feeling majority of the trolls here are those ebayers

    http://i44.tinypic.com/ieng1w.jpg

  • I lol’d at the picture.

  • @Voozi

    Sweeeeeet victory tastes goooood.

  • Way to go Sony, this makes me proud to be a ps3 owner

  • John, are there any plans for a new Dino Crisis using the same graphics and play style as RE5? Thanks again for bringing all the classics back to the next gen!

  • Hey John,

Is it worth buying the PSN version, when I have the PS2 version with all the characters unlocked?

  • cant wait 4 the summer so i can get this game. 1 of my favorite arcade game ever.

  • @Voozi

    LMAO! that made my day!

  • Nice to hear MvsC2 are arriving to PSN. Yesterday I bought Super Puzzle Fighter, and honestly I became very sad, ’cause the overwall software quality was low compared with the arcade, home and other console versions. I see capcom wasn´t the ‘converter’… but i hope capcom works really near the company to make the entiry quality the same or best from the others ports.

I hope MvsC2 don´t go to the same way, I mean… this is a great game. The dreamcast version was 1 to 1 from the arcade. The PSN version don´t have to be better, just be the same… but a loss of quality is a pain…

Thanks for the multiplayer, for the trophies, but… can we count on quality on this capcom port?

    Overwall thanks.

  • I think this will be my first PSN game purchase because I really enjoyed playing the arcade version of this game at my local Fiesta. The action was really intente and visually colorful especially the super moves.

And i might even download the demo. I just have the a couple of questions.

    – How many characters will be available in the demo?
    – How much hard drive memory will the demo take up? What about the actual game to be released in June?

Not sure if these questions have already been answered, but I would appreciate your answers.

  • @386

I can’t say if it’s worth it for you, but the PS2 version is a goofy port of the Dreamcast version, I believe. So, I am looking forward to this new release. Also, the announcement came that everything will be unlocked out of the gate in the PSN version, which definitely helps–hopefully that includes all the colors and backgrounds too.

  • @eddie

“Six available characters – Ryu, Chun-Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine”

Not sure abuot hdd space though.

  • @John Diamonon

You said if we could show you proof that Trophies were promised…

Release date: November 25, 2008 (I know, finally, right?)
Price: You’ve heard it here first! Only $14.99!
Trophies: Not at launch (This indicates that they would arrive at some point)
    Online Play: Of course
    Graphics: 1080p baby
Gameplay: Two types – Original and Rebalanced

    https://blog.playstation.com/2008/11/20/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix-cometh/#comments

    • this doesn\’t indicate that trophies were promised.

    • Please read my reply to comment 9 of the same blog:

So if it says Trophies: Not at launch , it means that trophies are comming.

Not a confirmation. We’re evaluating all of our digital titles and looking into it.

  • HD?????????

  • John if you are still reading this blog screw all the haters. Capcom is one of, if not the biggest PSN supporter out their (thats why they have their own section in the store, because nobody has that many games) and people still complain. It’s sad really when everybody whines about their trophies when their are great games being published by Capcom that they wont buy now. Oh well my next game off of the PSN is going to be a Capcom game, probably Marvel vs. Capcom and yeah I will gladly pay $15 for the efforts put in to make this game become a reality for the fan base. Thank you.

Look at all these haters surrounding Capcom everyday
Hating on Capcom, even though they support Playstation everyday
Capcom has the most Playstation Network games
And you just sit there and still complain
Their just trying to give you more
While you boycott them at the store

    Thanks for the support Capcom

  • this is CRAZYY mY MONEY IS URS PSN i loved these games when i was small i played it in arcades now online multiplayer wow trophies its over ah ma buy it wen it comes out thxs for putting it for psn its like idk thxs

  • Sweet!! I love how, The Touch song was used. Can’t wait.

  • Voozi thanks for the answer.

Ever since I played the Arcade version of Marvel vs capcom 2, I wanted to buy the PS2 game but I couldn’t find the game of at a reasonable price. Well thanks to the PSN game downloads I can play this fun game. I at least $19 for this game.

  • @ TailsTheCat

I’ve been “owning” MvC2 since the Dreamcast, too- and that’s why I’m so excited for this version. John’s right, if you’re playing in HD (which we all should be- no point in playing a current-gen sytem on a last-gen TV), you’ll appreciate having true widescreen HD support…

  • I hope everybody likes 100 hit combos !!!!!

Big Thanks to SONY and CAPCOM !!!!!!
