I Wanna Take YoU 4 A Ride this Thursday!

What’s up P-Essers? I’m here today to announce the imminent arrival of one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. You’ve seen the ESRB leak. You’ve seen the MadCatz joysticks. You probably visited a cryptic sight called www.tu4ar.com that just counted down to zero.

If you’ve been paying attention to my blogs and interviews, I’ve been leaking info about this day for quite some time. We conducted this Gamespot poll back in March of 2008 to gauge interest on what games you want to see us bring back. We listened to your feedback and tried to work quietly on the project. Well, as you know, I’m not the quiet type (the PR Ninjas here don’t like me so much). There was this MTV interview in June of last year, my PS blog on August 14th alluding to a Street Fighter surprise, and numerous blogs after that teasing this announcement.

So what’s the announcement? Here it is, officially:

Yes that’s right. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will finally arrive on PSN this summer! For more information on the full game, go visit Capcom-Unity.com.

This Thursday, April 30, PlayStation Network users will enjoy a free, exclusive MVC2 demo! No need to purchase another game, just download it straight to your PS3 and get ready for some triple tag team action (A big thank you goes out to Rommel Hernandez who helped make this exclusive demo possible).

Here are the details of the demo:

  • Two-player local matches
  • Six available characters – Ryu, Chun-Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine
  • Seven selectable environments
  • Upscaled 1080p graphics
  • Widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratio

    Wait, so we can’t play a single match against the computer in the demo? It’s 1P vs. 2P only?

    *sigh* That really sucks for me… I won’t even be able to play. I’m still real happy about the official announcement, don’t get me wrong, that’s just a big letdown about the demo. Oh well, hopefully the game won’t take too long to come out.

    Now heres the question, is there a possibility of DLC or updates that include extras for this gem?

    P.S. I remember playing MVC on the PSone with my older cousin and there I was, a 10 year old schooling my 16 year old cuz in front of his friends. LOL Good times.

    You said there isn’t a huge fanbase for MvC3, so what make you think there is a huge fanbase for MvC2? According to your logic, there isn’t a fanbase for MvC2 either if they are not interested in MvC3.

    Oh and I like how you used the term fanbase but yet the idiots at Capcom ignore the huge PS3 Monster Hunter fanbase on the PS3. I am just curious, what make you more profit Capcom, Monster Hunter or your other franchises?

    It is also classy when you refer to potential future customers as ‘son’.

    You know very well that yesterday was a tied-in-demo launch for inFamous/Uncharted and that your comment would be interpreted as a slam of that on a PS blog, why the heck should I be aware of your marketing on the Xbox 360. If you were not aware of that launch I’d be surprised.

    As for lack of demos…I was specifically refering back to my previous comment about Bionic Commando.(You seem to think we need to keep track of “trophies: not at launch” = “never promising a trophy” conversations so I guess you can keep track of mine too).

    Since you have decided to turn my commentary about CAPCOM into a personal thing, can I let you now know that due to your specific actions I won’t be buying anything from CAPCOM moving forward? That’s a lost sale on Dead Rising 2 and a lost sale on MH Unite.

    Good job though, son.

    Despite it being the worst kept secret, it’s great to hear the “official news” John! Been a CAPCOM supporter for as long as I can remember, so regardless of how much I sucked at MvC1 and 2, it’s still great to hear that this is coming out. :)

    Seriously? do you not know how BIG MvC2 was when going to the arcades were popular? Did you even read the post? Because of surveys and fan queries, the overwhelming request for this game is what made the release possible. And it’s not according to his (John’s logic), it’s yours. There isn’t even an MvC3 out, and if it were to happen, it’d have to be a joint venture between both Capcom AND Marvel (duh) for it to come to fruition.

    I’m sure there’s lots of people wanting a part 3, but until then, you’re blowing hot air out of your own mouth and blaming Capcom who isn’t at fault. And, for your question, I’m pretty sure Capcom makes phat loot from the MegaMan series, and their fighting games. I never heard of Monster Hunter until you came onto the blog whining about wanting a part 3 to come to the PS3 – and I’ve been gaming since the 80s.

    Capcom, why are you locking our save files on PS3? To back up my SF4 and RE5 saves I have to do a full system backup, which takes 5 hours. And I can’t take them to my brother’s house and continue my progress there, I have to start over from scratch.

    If there is a huge fanbase for MvC2, then there also going to be a huge fanbase for MvC3 because people want a sequal. John stated that there isn’t a huge fanbase (demand) for MvC3, so what does that tell you? If people aren’t interested in MvC3, then they aren’t going to be interested in MVC2.

    As for you first statement on how big MvC2 is, no I don’t know how big it is. I don’t know, I probable spend about $150 on this game at the Arcade with my cousins and friends. I own both Marvel Vs Capcom (Playstation 1)and Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Hell I got Marvel vs Capcom 2 twice, once on the Dreamcast and once on the PS2. I still got my PS2 copy of this baby. And I have spend countless nights playing this game with my cousin.

    You stated that you never heard about Monster Hunter, but yet you contradict yourself by say I wanted a part 3. In my post I never stated “Monster Hunter 3” anywhere in my post.

    As for Monster Hunter, the series has sold well over 7.5 million units world wide.

    Some of the games in the series wasn’t release world wide and some has only been release in Japan so far.

    Yeah, lack of a Bionic Commando demo. Also, why no announcement for Lost Planet 2 for PS3? No Dead Rising for PS3, timed exclusive of Lost Planet and then shoddy port, no demo of BC for PS3 and no announcement of LP2. What’s up with that?

    There’s not many other company reps who take as much time to answer numerous questions (seriously, a John Diamonon post has more red replies than any other) as well as offer numerous free give aways. This isn’t something he has to do, he could just post “XXXXX game is coming, it will cost xxxx amount” and be done with it.

    The lack of trophies is disappointing but it’s just one of those things, hope against hope really, you cannot expect every developer to go back and patch games that late in development because they do have other things to do. Exactly what Insomniac said about Resistance and both Ratchet and Clank games. How many times have Konami reps said “we hear you” for trophies as well?

    I’m not going to lie and say I LOVE CAPCOM THEY ARE THE BEST HOW DARE YOU ABUSE THEM, because I’m still waiting for DuckTails HD and Capcom’s games this gen, bar Bionic Commando Rearmed and Street Fighter IV, just have not excited me, to be honest.

    I’m not a Capcom fanboy by any means, as you can probably tell, but some people really take this whole trophy thing too far. Recent Capcom titles, both disc (Resi5, SFIV) and downloads (Flock and Marvel vs Capcom 2) have trophies, so I guess that means they are supporting them. And, if you still feel strongly about it, vote with your wallet. I’ll, personally, buy any game I feel warrants it (such as DuckTails HD), don’t just look at the company, look at the product.

    Ranted more than I meant to there, the main point is, DuckTails HD after Marvel vs Capcom 2.

    John, I want to thank you for everything you do for Capcom and on this blog. I never seen someone so involved with the community like this. All of the replies, posts on the blog…as a customer, I respect that greatly.

    I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, but please ignore all of the ungrateful haters on the comments. Frankly, they have nothing better to do with their lives besides hate on everything and everyone. Again, you already know this, I just want to reiterate it.

    Thanks again, and I hope you continue to stay involved. Love reading your posts on this blog, because of how much you seem to care for the Playstation community and gamers in general.

    The logic that because there isn’t a big fanbase for MvC3 doesn’t necessarily equate that there isn’t a big fanbase for MvC2. Neither one of us know the true number to that, but I’m sure we both remember how big MvC2 was back in the day, which is why it’s being rereleased now.

    And as for which Capcom franchise sells more, I don’t have numbers readily available, so please allow me to insert my foot in my mouth if I’m wrong, but the MegaMan series and their fighting games are known the world over, so I’d be surprised if either MegaMan or the SF series sold less than the number you quoted.

    In any case, no hard feelings man. Didn’t mean to come across as a jerk. Different view points, y’know?

    As for megaman, I think that series is irrelevant now. Most of Megaman sales came on the days of between the NES and Playstation. I don’t think they series did well on the last generation of system and I don’t think is is doing well on the handhelds either. That why we don’t see Megaman games being pumped out thee way they used to.
    As for the Fighting games, there isn’t a market for these types of games outside of Japan. And in Japan Street Fighter isn’t what it used to be. Tekken is king in Japan and that probable they only region there is a fighting game market left.

    hmm all good news besides the no SSF2THDR trophies. I mean how hard could it be? I hope there is still a patch coming for that game. So Bionic Comando 360 exclusive demo and now MVC2 PSN exclusive demo. I’m still waiting on trophies for BC:R. Please do this as a show of good faith. I do already have all the games but I waited on Age of Booty to get a trophy patch just to see if they would hold true to this. You guys did and I bought it that day. Keep up the good work. Also get Lost Planet 2 on PS3 confirmed.

    You could be right about the majority of Megaman’s sales coming from NES/SNES and PlayStation, but I wouldn’t count MegaMan out entirely. I mean, unless the citation from Wiki is wrong, the Megaman franchise has sold 28 MILLION copies worldwide (we’re still talking franchise right?) Megaman, X, Legends, Zero, ZX, and the Battle Network on the DS… those are a lot of games. AND, the anime/mangas too? And yet you said Monster Hunter sold 7.5 Million? ^_^

    I woulda been surprised if MH outsold MM.

    True the Megaman series has sold a lot more compare to Monster Hunter, but the majority of those sales came in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. But today, the Megaman series is basically irrelevant just like Sonic. These developers are unable to keep up with the time and are unable to make the series interested again.

    That sir, I will agree on. I lol’ed when you said “irrelevant just like Sonic.” Can’t help but cheer him on though… even if it’s something like the Olympic games thing for the Wii (>_>)

    Maybe Capcom needs to revamp MegaMan. the retro 8bit thing was nostalgic (not so much with the difficulty though. hahaha) but something new and fresh would, IMO, prolly breathe life back into that franchise.

    And btw, you got me googling about Monster Hunter. Dang, that game looks pretty good.. and it had online capabilities on the PS2?! whaat?! i’m an RPG whore at heart, so now I’m a lil intrigued :p

    Is there a reason for the NO BIONIC COMMANDO DEMO on the PSN store???

    It was confirmed by some capcom moderator at unity that it would be a LIVE EXCLUSIVE!!!!!

    Either way, you will lose lots of PS3 sales if you don’t release a demo before the game comes out.
    (Not my sale though :D , I’m buying it either way!! )

    Capcom either need to make some very unique with Megaman or just kill the series because it isn’t doing just a great character and series any justice at all to release crappy games feature him.

    As for Monster Hunter, dude that game has a very huge and loyal following. Monster Hunter on the PS3 with online and voice chat would be out of this world for the Fans, but it seems that Capcom don’t care about us very much.

    As somone who’s never played marvel vs capcom, but loves marvel and street fighter universe, is this game balanced?

    does it look good on HD?

    how many modes does it offer?

    Are all characters unlocked from the get go?

    Are the super moves easy to pull off?

    F-ing sweet, best news this whole damn year so far. This is better then anything we will be seeing on E3. Marvel Vs Capcom was the #1 PS2 game I played and its still the only PS2 game I play until today, its an awesome game. Im willing to pay good bucks for this, so as long as its comes with great features.
