Hi Everyone,
By now, you’ve heard about the latest PS3 Firmware update (v2.70) that allows you to backup the movies and TV shows you purchase from PlayStation Store to an external storage device, so you can make room on your hard drive and restore the videos any time in the future. Also, the videos you purchase for the PSP can now be transferred to the PS3 for playback.
Here are this week’s updates to the video store. We also wanted to share with you a short clip from Krod Mandoon, a show that debuts on Comedy Central next Thursday, April 9. It will be available for purchase on PlayStation Store the following day.

I’m excited to see the inclusion of purchased video backup, but something I would like to see for any HD purchases is the inclusion of a SD copy for download to watch on the PSP. This lack of functionality stops me from wanting to purchase TV shows in HD since I know I can never transfer to PSP without buying another copy. From my understanding, iTunes provides HD and SD copies for those who rent or buy anything in HD. Something to consider moving forward.

Perhaps if Grace answers the question about who at SONY Can@da to contact (that doesn’t count Thrasher20!) you can express your feelings to someone who can answer for Canada’s plan.
Please realize that both 360 and Apple took 1+ years for their service to come to Canada and SONY has only had the PSN Video store since July 15 2008. Also, please expect that the Canadian store will have different content due to CRTC regulations.
Where’s Quantum of Solace or any James Bond movie on the PSN movie store? Ohh ya, I forgot you sold the rights to Bond movies to the Xbox store. Smart move guys.

How many times do people have to ask about the video store in Canada before we get a response? We haven’t even gotten an acknowledgment that Sony is even aware of the issue.

Have you tried putting your backups on a different PS3 with your PSN ID attached? If it doesn’t work then the back ups are useless to you if your PS3 borks.
Umm so i’m trying to udate my PS3 from v2.60 to v 2.70 and i keep getting the error message 80710723. I can browse the internet and i know that my internet commection is fine but it will not let me do the update. It gets as far as 59% then tell me it can’t find the server and gives that error msg. I’ve tried to do this download about 7 times now… anyone got any ideas?
To get tv shows in canada they will have to put new networks (means new contracts) because i doubt that your networks are the same as ours with the exception of a few same goes for the uk. For movies thats a whole different story, which im sure it takes a lot of paper work sence movies are made in california after all. And as for the people talking about in game cross chat, well this is the wrong place to cry about a useless function, just use a messanger program or another program like vent. Bluetooth headsets work with computers you know.
2.7 won’t let me view my .avi’s from my PC anymore. :-( so we can back up purchases, but not watch stuff on our network. yay!

Out of curiosity…what Media Server Program are you using?
While I think you guys are doing a GREAT job with the video store and allowing us to back up our purchased items is a step in the right direction (ideally it would be tied to our PSN instead of machine and DRM would be like the games), I feel there are some things missing for you to catch up to XBL and itunes in terms of content:
– Some new seasons of TV Shows that are available on PSN are going on right now and you’re not updating them like your competitors, Gangland and Ax Men are two I can think of
– More catalog TV Shows, FUturama season 2 is already available on XBL and itunes, Married with Children season 7 and 8 are available on itunes, etc
– THe Ultimate Fighter from Spike please :D
– Some TV Shows are missing under the network they play, example “The Beast” cannot be found under A&E
– Great to see new Disney movies, hopefully more of those catalog titles to come as well as day and date releases and ability to purchase them, but those latter two might have something to do with itunes contract for them…
Do that and your content will grow even better. Overall great job, give yourselves a pat on the back, the Video store has grown significantly since its inception.

I asked if I swap saves between my two ps3’s will it stop me from earning trophies? Can I only earn the trophies on the system that I started the game on or can I just keep going back and forth between the systems? Can you guys make it so that you recognize that I’m not downloading the save off the internet and that it is just from my other system?

The PSN Account Wallet needs password protection – not just a password prompt when checking out of the store! I want to be able to play on my PS3 and save my PSN password on my console and not worry someone using my system adding money (paid with my credit card) to my PSN Wallet without a password prompt showing up.

It took Microsoft over 2 years to get the legal rights to obtain movies and films for the Canadians. Its not Sony’s fault.
